I Love Paris

I love Paris. But I've never been.

How do I know I love Paris? Who doesn't?

I've always wanted to go, inspired by so many glorious photos by Tara, Wally Parshall, and many others.

I've used it in my ATCs. (All the art here are my ATCs.)

I loved "Funny Face"and I think the moment the Tour de France enters Paris is breathtaking.

And while I think of England as my spiritual home, I've always wanted to see Paris.

Well, Jeanie doesn't have a travel budget. But she does have frequent flyer miles and a friend who lives in Paris!

So, when I found out my college buddy Jerry had to leave his Paris apartment in July, I knew my last chance to go and see Paris through the eyes of a native (or at least a long-term ex-pat) was looming close!

So, in a fit of total realization (combined with a tad of depression about the surgery), I booked a flight with my freebie miles!

Come June, I'm on my way!I'll have to take three thousand camera batteries!

I've even been in touch with Tara and we will hopefully get together. Between Tara and Jerry, I'll know every cool place in the city.

The only thing that makes me sad, if my personal Tour de France fan will be staying home. This time.

Jerry was my theatre buddy back in college -- when we'd go on tour, he'd be the only one with a per diem left after two weeks! A wonderful dancer, he actually went pro in shows like "Oklahoma," "Chorus Line" and "West Side Story." He even danced at the White House!

As one of a small, tight group of theater majors, we spent every spring break in the frigid upper peninsula of Michigan, doing musicals and children's theatre on tour. (And of course, we'd come back with colds, while our friends were all tan!)

Recently, he's been a personal trainer in Paris. He's the best shopper ever and will take me to every off-the-beaten path place possible. Am I excited? You bet! Want motivation for physical therapy? It doesn't get better than that!

How cool is this! What a wonderful thing to look forward to. I'm flying to Ireland in April with points - aren't "free" flights wonderful!

Jeanie, what fabulous news! I am so happy for you. I have never been to Paris, but you are right - what a wonderfully romantic spot to "go native." And leaving your own person Tour de France fan at home means you will be doing lots of writing!!
I am looking forward to hearing all about it. Good decision :)

I am so glad that you are doing this. And with a friend who knows the area to stay with - what could be better?

OhMyGOSH! Am I jealous? YOU BET! Incentive for me to diet down to the size of a Samsonite! hahahaha

I know you will have the time of your life. What could be better than visiting a wonderful old friend in a magical city?

Just spent a few minutes catching up on your blog (while avoiding tasks I should be doing here at home), and wanted to comments on a few items: 1) So glad to hear Greg's surgery went well. That must have been a big relief for all of you! 2) I'm sorry to hear you will need shoulder surgery, but as you said, with the Paris trip to look forward to, what a motivator to do whatever it takes to heal well and fast! and 3) That's terrific that you worked it out to go to Paris - you have such an absolutely fantastic chance to see the "real" Paris, which most of us never have when traveling abroad. (I like the diet until you fit in a suitcase idea posted earlier, so if you have lots of unexpected luggage, don't be surprised.)

Nice artwork and photos! I'm not much of a traveller, so I've never thought about going to Paris.

But I hope you have a wonderful time! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures!

oo-oo. Paris! I have been but it's been years. It is on my list of cities to revisit and some time soon I hope. It would be so great if you can get together with Tara too. So nice to have something fun to look forward to while you are on the mend. :>))

Jeanie that is fabulous - you will have a wonderful time, China just spent 4 days there and came back with 1200 + photos... she went to the Louvre, Notred Dame, Palace of Versailles, lots of Museums of photography and art and to the top of the Eiffel Tower... I was green with envy.
And she was able to take photos IN all of the places which was amazing for her and surprised me... have fun my friend!!! xxxx

Ohh, I'm so excited for you, Jeanie! I'm a little behind on my blogs, so just now reading this. How wonderful! Don't forget your batteries or your camera, because I will be counting on lots of pictures and descriptions so I can see Paris through your eyes. I know it will be a great experience for you!

Think of me when you are atop the arc d'triumph and picture me dancing down the Champs Elyse. I know I must have spelled those wrong!

Tell Rip he looks great! It's so cool to keep our college connections! Give him a big hug from me and I am sending one to you too.
I will be in Michigan in July, maybe I can deliver that hug!
