We had a wonderful visit with Kevin, Molly and the Toddler Twosome, starting with brunch. Rick and Kevin turned out wonderful omelets, sausage and potatoes, and of course there were maple oatmeal muffins, too!
Then it was on to my house so the boys could "see the kitty!" Unfortunately, Lizzie wasn't in a cooperative mood. She hid in an impossible place to even see her -- and then hissed! Poor girl isn't used to little boys! But the walk down was lovely! And we had a fun pillow fight. I knew all those throw pillows would come in for something. Apparently, for throwing!
In fact, it was a perfect day. A little windy but sunny and relatively warm for early March. For the most part, the Littles were running, but every now and then they opted for a ride!
I live around the corner from the fire station so after we left the house, we headed there, knocked on the door and sure enough, were warmly greeted. This guy was so nice -- and I learned a lot, too!
We got quite the tour, even seeing some of the equipment, including the jaws of life (the boys loved it every time he opened a compartment!). Let's say that's the closest I want to see the jaws of life!
It reminded me of our first visit to the fire station in
I hope their mom is labeling the backs of the baby pix! Otherwise, future genealogists will have one heck of a time figuring out which is which!
Then it was off to the playground, just down the street from the station where everyone could touch the germ-laden swings and climbing things! Grandpa helped the boys on the swinging steps.
Slides are always fun!
Carson loved this, but Cam was a little too young to hang on well!
And who doesn't love to swing!
Everyone had a hand in pushing these guys higher and higher!
Time to head home and wash hands!
And time to open belated a birthday present -- a set of four puzzles.
Oh, we hated to see these guys leave. Well, all of us except Lizzie. But the hugs and the smiles were the best thing of the day.
I wonder who was driving home?
Hopefully not this one!
A final note from the front: I asked a friend of mine who is a family practice physician and on the faculty of Ohio State if the hype on the virus is overblown as so many have said. Here is her reply: "Unfortunately, it is not overblown. The number of cases and deaths are climbing everyday and with this current course it will be much worse before it is better. I just hope we don’t end up like Italy but the lag in testing and isolation actions, we may have to face a difficult couple of months if not more."

The best thing about spending time with little kids is that it reminds us that in so many ways we are still kids ourselves. I hope we always will be too! For people who enjoy the outdoors and bask in the pleasure of solitude, I suspect that our enforced confinement will be less stressful than for others. Miriam and I are out and about every day, looking at the early spring ephemerals starting to make their presence known in the woodlots, seeing the first Mourning Cloak and hearing an Eastern Meadowlark singing lustily. Life has changed for us, as it has for everyone, but our contact with nature is the same as it has always been. Stay safe, Jeanie. Say hi to Rick for me. Take care of each other.

The Great Confinement - I hadn't heard that name, so maybe you coined it :-) -- I like it and will use it myself.
Those boys, at whatever age and year (though the 1918 date is hard to believe ;-) ) are beautiful. I'm so glad you got to be with them.
Truly, if toddlers are around it's near impossible not to spread germs. We can't count on them to help "flatten the curve," but I'm not worried. I guess that's obvious from my last visit with some of my family.

Oh those boys are a good smile . I remember visiting the fire station as a kid, so I am sure it was a super visit. Who doesn't love a big red firetruck? And probably just as fun for you, well just being with the boys looks like so much fun. The virus is scary and it is important to stay vigilant. Those grand babies are adorable!
Seattle is a lot like where you are it seems. Restaurants are closed,, churches are closed, grocery stores are out of toilet paper and chicken (why?!) and many people are hunkered down at home. My family is healthy but one person at our church tested positive for the virus so I'm self quarantining at home. Honestly, I'm enjoying the break! I pray you all remain safe and healthy!

I love THE GREAT CONFINEMENT. A bit more positive way to look at life right now. And I agree that we will be changed when this is all over. And for the better. Better to appreciate alot of things that we currently take for granted. And I hope folks will think about being self reliant, like growing some veggies in their yard for themselves and sharing. We will have to take Paul to a fire station some time. He would LOVE that. He's so into cars and trucks and things that go. I'm sure he'd love talking with a fireman! So lovely that they were so warm and welcoming!
We have been hunkering down at home. It hasn't been too terrible. It's what we need to do to stop the spread of this nasty virus. We have 135 cases here with over 50 in my county but I am sure there are way more cases than we know about. We still have such a limited number of tests. I just hope we don't end up like Italy. The situation there is very sad.
It's great that you were able to get in this family visit before what you called The Great Confinement, which is certainly can be described as with more and more states urging residents not to go out except for necessities. My husband is a former NJ firefighter and always liked to have groups visit the fire station to learn about safety. Until your next visit, video messages will have to suffice. Hopefully the toddler twosome will not grow so fast bfore you see them next, Jeanie, because as your friend feared it could be a long haul of self isolation. Stay well. Cheers.
