Postcards From the Lake: Winding Down

Winding down at the lake. We've been lucky. It's been brisk most days of my visit but there have been some warm and sunny ones too.

Above is what you see from the lakeside, with the neighbor's oak bringing in some wonderful color. Below is what we see when we come in the driveway in the back.

Rick, of course, has been riding. He's trying to get in 5,000 miles before the snow falls and is only about 500 away from that.

Will he make it? I have no doubts!

We had a mix of weather -- some very cool (read that kind of cold!) days along with some really beautiful weather with temps in the 70s. Rick has been out on the kayak

.

I, on the other hand, took advantage of a warm day to paint on the porch. I didn't have any main projects, so settled on doing some cards.

I have to say I'm so relieved my annual sale was canceled this year. I'll still post some things on The Gypsy Caravan next month if anyone is interested in cards, notes or paintings for gifts, but at least it won't be schlepping things across town on what could be a beautiful or wretched weekend! (By the way, I also do special orders, so if you have seen photos of things I've posted here that you would be interested in as a card or print, just let me know.)

Rick and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner out at  my favorite up-north restaurant, which was a super treat.

We started with mussels and then my main course was Parmesan Crusted Walleye, while Rick's was the Sausage Sampler. Both were excellent.

And here I am again.

That was the better photo. Now look at this. There seems to be something terribly odd with this photo. My hand looks completely distorted to the rest of my arm and body and it looks like a giant claw! I know it's the perspective but it kind of freaked me out when I saw it!

The lake is "closing down" for the season. Boats and all the gear that goes with them are being pulled out of the water and the beaches look quieter.

Finally, I promised you some color. I took a lovely walk down my favorite road. It's not quite at peak, but pretty darned close.

It was a gorgeous day...

I've always loved this little shed in the fall. The sunflowers are well past their peak but still, that pop of yellow is great!

There's more color to come!

(One other thing -- between closing up the cottage, a slew of doc appointments and tests and getting ready to go to Canada for a couple of days, I'm having trouble keeping up with your blogs and I'm just not able to answer comments right now, unless you asked a specific question. I'm so grateful for your visits and comments and they're really brightening my days right now. Hopefully I can get back on schedule soon. Thanks for understanding!)
