To be honest, there's not much to see yet in the leaf foliage. Trees are still bare and the only green was these daffodil sprouts.
But it's a sign.
There were only a couple of ducks, too. The rest must be nesting, for it was a gorgeous day (and I saw about 25 when there was still ice on the water.) But these two were enjoying themselves.
I prefer to think this one isn't sticking his head in the coronavirus sand but instead, entertaining me with Duckrobatics. I gave him a
perfect 10.
I didn't see much in the bird line, either but when I heard the cardinal song, I took a more careful look.
There he is! And here's a somewhat closer look.
This looks like a pigeon or mourning dove? David, Eileen, Arti, Diane -- am I close?
Finally, these two Canada Geese were holding court. I wonder where the rest of their gaggle is?
It was a lovely day to be outside, people (few) keeping distance but all there to enjoy that last few days off official winter before the Equinox that would begin the next day.
These birds and blooms don't know we're in the midst of emotional and economic chaos, that people are ill, dying, all around the world. They just know that while the water is still icy cold, it is a beautiful day and despite the cool breeze, the sun is warm and bright.
I think we can learn from them. I hope we can -- but I'm having a hard time trying.

Nice photos. I haven't been out for a "real" walk in a very long while. Maybe soon. I did get out to go buy a few groceries tonight and I was not pleased with the behaviours I saw in regards to social distancing.

That looks like a lovely walk. I like this kind of walks too, watching the birds and looking out for flowers is very relaxing indeed.
It is a Mourning Dove, Jeanie, but you know of course that the unrivalled stars of the show were the CANADA Geese! Having just returned from a trip to our fair province, I am sure they welcomed you as a bosom companion. It's good to get outside, isn't it?
I like walking around a place near to water, too. Water changes its face according to the change of seasons. You found a sign of spring!

It does feel good to be outside, we can still keep a safe distance from each other. Your photos look like they could have been taken here, the trees still very brown. Some daffies blooming and we can see signs of the trees starting to bud. I love all your bird and cute ducks. I see David gave you the Mourning Dove it, they are sweet birds. Take care, stay well. Ahhhhh, just the thing for the soul. Your pictures are always so very good! Yes, mourning dove - with their special little hoo, hoo, hoo call. I was especially happy to hear red-winged blackbirds the other day. I haven't seen them, but I can hear them. It's cold and a tiny bit snowy this morning. Still waiting on Spring. We have a similar area in our town that we call the pond. Is also a nice place to walk but with Australian plants and birds. Keep your chin up, honey, thinking of you

One day it is 61 the next it is 25 degrees and snowing! What the heck! You have more signs of spring then I. Let's hope the weather turns enough to go outside. I am perfectly fine with isolating on a bike trail.

Well the duck in the ditch knows how to show is REAR! haha...Yep, we have had blooms here for several weeks now. The Bradford Pears are all green now. The magnolia's are in bloom. Cherry Blossom and Redbud are gone. I have tulips coming up. I also have plants and bushes I want to dig up to bring to the new house. I have always heard, trees and bushes can only be planted, with good results in a month that has an R in it. So...I have the rest of this month and next. Hoping to start working at my other home next week so to get it on the market....hoping to sell before the economy tanks...cause I fill it coming.
I love when the ducks 'pose' for a photo! heehee! Love seeing the birds and early Spring sights where you live. It feels great to get outside when we can't go anywhere else! Stay healthy and happy! Hugs!

That’s what I do too, I find solace in nature, as well as books and such, of course. We are in almost total lockdown now. It sounds awful, but I can cope with it quite happily. That may change, of course, but my COPD (like yours) doesn’t permit me to risk catching the virus.

"the ditch doesn't know".....LOL---loved what you titled this post! Enjoyed the pictures too...just getting outside helps so much, cold or hot....windy, snow, rain, WHATEVER!!! Being in nature gives me alot of peace. We were enjoying the beaches, but they have closed most of them down as well as our state and county parks, which limits places to get outside SAFELY and be able to walk and breathe fresh air. Waaaaay too many people put walking around the city, even though for the most part, they are trying to do the "spacial distancing". I told my hubby what you called it and he loved it! Sidewalks are narrow....hard to navigate and be spacially distanced...ha ha LOL! Take care of yourself!

Your spring is SO far ahead of us! We had bucketing rain yesterday, then the temperature dropped all day and into the night. We are in a sea of ice today. We went bird watching this afternoon but everything is frozen and treacherous and the birdies were hunkered down somewhere.
Such pretty pictures and I would certainly give the duck a 10 as well. I am thankful that you are able to walk and enjoy some time outside. It is cold here, but I walked to the mailbox and although, it was brisk outside, I did enjoy the time out. I am not one for staying home and inside, so this is tough.
What a peaceful place for a walk. I love the duckrobatics photos! Very cute. These are such difficult times. My anxiety level is pretty high right now. We are all so vulnerable with this unpredictable virus. I am hoping for a countrywide lock down so slow the spreading. A lot of places are still open in our area which is scary. At least the schools have been closed.

These beautiful days have been a blessing, haven't they? So glad you took the opportunity for a walk: Your cardinal was a great find. And, of course, I loved to see the ducks ducking about... and, based on the geese you saw a-courting, seems to me you should have geese a-laying before too long.

Goodness, what a splendid outing! So many birds to see on one walk, I am envious. Plus the fresh air and sky look so invigorating. I think I'm inspired to take my own walk in the morning!! Thank you for the beautiful pictures. I especially appreciated the mourning dove, as I've been thinking a lot about them ;-) and the cardinal! I've never seen a cardinal in real life.

We have been trying to get out for walks as much as possible to tired Paul out/get him some fresh air. We aim for 2 walks/day. We have been cooped up this weekend, though, as we decided to potty train during this time of isolation. It's been a lot of work but I know it will be worth it in the end!
We have not seen as many ducks since the beginning of March. We used to see over 100 on this one stretch of creek but they are gone now. We usually see 3-4 ducks but it's nothing compared to what we were seeing this winter so Paul has been bummed and will say 'where are you duckies" on the way home from our walk which is pretty darn cute!

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I saw my first red winged blackbird at the feeder yesterday. Mom tells me that they are the true signs of spring, not the robin. I always love seeing your ditch. I took the first visit down to our lake the other day, not many critters out but I really enjoyed seeing the sun and some blue sky for a change.

What a glorious sight is the red cardinal. And Yes, that's a Mourning Dove - one of my favorite birds, and I see them around here all the time. A bird of peace, their soft cooooo you can hear in the distance, and you always know that it is them coming around and making your day just a little bit better. : )

Reactions to this enforced captivity are going to vary from one person to another. I am quite sure that some relationships only work because both parties work outside the home, have independent busy lives, and really don't see each other that much. Suddenly, thrown together 24/7 for weeks on end it may not work out well for them. And we are probably in for this for several more weeks, I would guess. Ah, but down where you live your esteemed president says that he is going to open up the country again, deadly virus be damned! Such wisdom!
Just had to make sure I hadn't missed anything. The COVID-19 scare has hit us all. I'm glad to see you got out and went to the ditch. Your photos, especially that red bird, are beautiful. Canadian geese seem to be everywhere. Glad you got photos, because I'm sure you won't be going there any time soon again.
