Taking photos of doors is almost overkill, French or otherwise.
After all, how many doors can you shoot?
How many of the same place? Do we like this view (because we were nearly killed getting it)...
...or this?
What about this? (Or can you really not tell them apart? Oh, yeah -- the guy in the blue jacket.)
France in general -- and Paris in particular offer so many options.
There are shop doors.
You can find book stores...
Absinthe shops...
Artist ateliers.
Trendy fragrance shops...
And designer fashion shops. (Well, maybe not a shop. Not my kind of shop!)

There are doors to museums...
...and more museums.
...and still more museums!
There are doors that mark the home of the late famous.
Doors to mausoleums.
Doors to courtyards...
There are elaborate doors...
...gated doors...
...and even doors that represent a terrible time in world history.
Ah, but the best door is the one leading to the courtyard of the apartment where you are staying when you come home!

Your photos are so lovely. It is a year since I was last in Paris, and I am desperate to go again! Doorways are so attractive, aren't they? -- all that symmetry and all that potential.

Speaking of which, I have made a kind of crazy decision... I have decided to go to Paris for Thanksgiving!!! I feel a little bit irresponsible doing this, knowing I likely have a cross country move ahead of me next year (which will be expensive) but I also feel like I have earned it. It will either be a CFA celebratory trip, or in the event I don't pass, it will be a last hurrah before I start studying again. I emailed the guy I rented an apartment from last time and the 2 apartments I am interested in in the Latin Quarter are available. :) So I might be staying just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Shakespeare & Co! :)
Ah - here we are, in the season of jealousy again as I stand like an urchin at the door and eavesdrop on all you lucky ones talk about being in Paris! ;-)
I do love doors, and this is a marvelous collection. The funny thing is, I recognized Shakespeare and Co. before I read the sign above the door. I have been lurking around these Parisian blogs for a while, haven't I?
We did have a record-breaking 107 in Houston this weekend and 105 here at my place. Everyone was in-doors, I want you to know!
I think the doors were marvels for me too when I last visited Paris in 2010. But I haven't got such an extensive collection of photos on just doors. Thanks for these wonderful pics, Jeanie. Haven't thought of participating this year, but you sure have piqued my interest all over again with this post about this annual Paris in July blogging event.

Loved your photos of doors! Reminds me of a postcard I bought once that consisted of nothing but doors in Exmouth. I loved the variety of door colors and styles :) I'm looking forward to your post on the inside of a Parisian apartment.
Sorry I've been so absent recently but I think I'm back now. And just in time to enjoy all these beautiful doors. It may be overkill but I still enjoy them every time.

Oh, I could never get enough, never overkill when it comes to doors for me. LOVE THEM. I think they're even more special when shown individually vs grouped because each has a story, or typically a question for me.
I'm taking a much needed blogging leave that I've fought FOREVER, but I will continue to visit with friends.

Wonderful doors in all their variety, I love taking "door" pictures too. I think my favourite doors are very very old ones, with the marks of hundreds of years on them. Your very first one ticks my boxes.

I loved all the different entrances - but that treat is what really makes my heart beat faster. Yummy!
All these charming doors are making me homesick for our own French door! I do miss living there - mostly it's the food! :)
What a great post. I love the doors of Paris too, and photographed quite a few of them on each visit.
Parisian doors really convey classic and beauty. You will certainly be drawn to these doors no matter what. Modern doors in Paris still resemble those from the Renaissance era, which is why even if decades and centuries have passed, you can still feel the presence of history in the city. People don’t forget about the times gone by because they still value Paris’ old setup.
