Postcards from the Lake: Home Alone, Sort of.

So, Rick had a lot of work to do at home before he could justify being up here for a couple of weeks, so I popped up almost on my own. Ms. Lizzie is here with me, and she's always good for conversation!

The weather, lovely. So far, at least. The sunsets? Spectacular.

Oh, when the oranges turn to the pinks, my heart just melts!

I got gas on the way up. The last time I bought gas was February 11 (the last day I had my hair done, too.) It was $2.69 a gallon. I bought it on June 24 for $1.97. I've saved a fortune on fuel with Covid.

In fact, I saved enough to commit to having internet installed at the lake. I have been using my nice neighbor's but thought I should get my own. The tech came today to install it and checked it on his phone and left. I didn't think to check my computer to make sure it was working on that. So, later when I did -- nope. After way too long on hold, I tried the online chat with the neighbor's signal. And then that pooped out on me. I gave up. I'll try again tomorrow.

The highlight of my day was a visit by my cousin's son Jeff and his lovely love of life, Lauren. I'd not met Lauren and oh, she's such a gem. I'm glad, because Jeff deserves only the best!

I've been plugging along on my jigsaw puzzle. All the books in the photo are theatre books and I thought it would be fun. It is. But harder than it looks. And the table's not quite the right height so I can't obsess on it! If I do, I won't be able to walk for a week!

Cats and theatre books -- I will love this puzzle! Speaking of cats....

...time to dine. Again.

From the ditch to the lake, again! I read your last few posts and the lake sounds so summery. Your little lake house is charming!

I missed going to my own lake cabin last summer, but this year I'm on the calendar, and really looking forward to it. It belongs to my siblings and me, and is at such high elevation that it's closed and snowed in for 8-9 months of the year.

You're reminding me of that unbeatable lake house life. :-)

Lizzie is the sweetest! I haven’t done a puzzle in a long time. I used to really enjoy them.

Cute post. Seeing Lizzie makes me want another cat. Believe it or not I've been searching the local shelters for well over a year. I haven't found one yet. Also the shelters have this new thing now where they insist you adopt not one but two cats, siblings of mother and kitty. I cannot accommodate 2 cats. I can barely look after one. Since Covid 19 came along I believe pet adoptions came to a complete temporary stop. I am hoping I will be able to find a cat before too long as it's been quite awhile already. I may have to try and go the private route through friends of friends. I do love your skies at the cottage. They are spectacular and I'm glad you had visitors. It's always nice to see relatives. Happy weekend to you.

Ms. Lizzie is a beauty, really.
Ohhh, beautiful pictures of the lake. Nearly makes up for annoying internet problems.
Happy couple, but, really, the dog´s expression made me laugh!
I only use online jigsaws. Whilst watching TV on the second monitor. I think real ones are more difficult!
Lizzie looks very patient, thank you for sharing her.

Hello Jeanie,

Love your sweet Lizzie photos, I am sure she is keeping you good company while at the lake. The sunset photos are beautiful, what a lovely end to your day! Our gas prices seem to go up and down, $1.97 a gallon sounds great. I hope they come back to fix your internet. I hope in the meantime you enjoy your time at the lake.. Have a happy weekend!

Great! You have almost completed the frame of the puzzle.

I suspect that cottages are the last bastion for jigsaw puzzles. When I had a cottage we always had a puzzle on the go, and everyone who was there that weekend added a few pieces and it slowly got finished. I remember the couple I bought the cottage from had a lot of the puzzles they had completed framed, i am not sure how it all stayed together on the vertical, and it certainly wasn't high art!

I am sure your new connection will be up and running soon. Lovely photos, and aren't sunsets always amazing, how subtly, how quickly they change and suddenly they are gone.

Jeannie,
Beautiful sunsets and you know how much I love sunsets! Nice that you got to visit with family members! The one thing I have learned with having t take care of everything in this house is to make sure things work whether it be electricity, cable, plumbing, internet, etc, before the guy leaves our house!! I do not have the patience to do a puzzle but my great nieces love them! Glad you are enjoying your time at the lake! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Deb

Lovely! Enjoy your time at the lake, Jeanie! That's amazing that you haven't bought gas in such a long time. You really have been sheltered away. How did you get your groceries? -Jenn

Jigsaw puzzles and cottages just go together like salt and pepper. I'd be surprised if Lizzie didn't lounge on yours before you get it finished.

Glad you've been able to enjoy more time at the lake, and that you saved so much on gas over the past few months. Hope you get your internet issues sorted out without too much trouble.

Lizzie is such a sweetie kitty! Our gas prices here are low too and we are able to save more with our Safeway gas rewards.
I just love how the Lord gives us gorgeous sunsets. I think they are gifts from Him.

Your lake house is such a beautiful place to spend time, anytime. I always enjoy your photos from there. Nice you could visit your relatives while there. We just recently had to fuel the car up, since early March for us. Yes, nice to save a little at the pump. Sorry everyting is not working after the tech man was there, happen all to ofter Ithink. Puzzle fun and I know exactly how you feel about sitting to long at the table. Did the same thing playing bingo with the kids, the back was not happy! Relas and enjoy your Lake time.

Lizzie is a wonderful companion. The puzzle looks like it could be difficult, but rewarding when you are finished. I hope the internet problem gets resolved quickly! Wishing you a lovely weekend at the lake!

Glad you are in your happy place. I look forward to lake photos and photos of your art. The sunset photos make me long for my Florida home; but I am beginning to think that I may not get there even for Christmas. I filled up my tank last week (was down to 1/4 tank), the first time since I got back in March (mostly, I just drive to senior hours shopping at Hardings and some curbside pick up for take out dinners). Hope you get the internet straightened out.

Your kitty is gorgeous, in the last photo she looks stunning, wearing a bit of lipstick? LOVE the cat tails , the silvery quality - what a nice vacation, thank you for taking us along! Just beautiful @ the lake.

It's great to read you made it to the lake. I hope they can get your internet going soon, because I know you are as dependent on it as I am mine. Lizzie (and my boys) is only so much company, then we need outside stimuli. You have settled in quite nicely, and it's good to see you are saving money in the process. Have a super week, dear Jeanie.

Jeanie, the view of the lake is spectacular. I love to see pinks in the sunset. In Virginia, our house was 1 mile from Back Bay. When we had hurricanes we would have the most beautiful sunsets. Miss Lizzie looks as though she is enjoying herself. You do too and have a lovely weekend!

You and Lizzie will have an enjoyable and peaceful time and hope Rick can join you both soon enough, Jeanie. That puzzle would not be on my to to do as I am hopeless with them most likely because we never had them in my childhood home. The sunset was lovely and I can see why you are so happy. Hope the internet issue gets resolved easily.

Look at that Lizzie! I haven't done a jigsaw puzzle in years. Used to do them all the time as a kid.
Enjoy!

Hurrah for getting internet. Especially when you are alone, although it might cut into book time. Or would for me! Smile. Your sky photos are beautiful and I bet Lizzie is great company. It would be awful quiet in my house with the dogs all day, and I know cats are just as good company, or least most of them are. Enjoy your lake time Jeanie. It is special time. Hugs-Erika

Jeff and Lauren look like a very nice young couple, indeed! I'm sure they were great company to you. Their little dog and your cat Lizzie are quite a funny pair!

Your time at the lake always seems so nice, everyone of your posts speaks of that. I can understand that you love it there. Being alone for some time sounds lovely, too, especially when you have such a sweet companion like Ms Lizzie. Enjoy your time! (By the way, I saw a picture of that puzzle and thought that it must be fun but quite hard).

Catching up with you and so glad you could make the trip to the lake! That puzzle would give me a headache! Does Lizzie help? Hope you get the Internet working soon. Stay well!

How lovely to have a place to take a break, Jeanie. Great photos of the sunset! Ms Lizzie is so cute and I'm sure great company. Maybe she'll even point out the puzzle piece you are looking for. Hopefully soon your new internet connection will be settled.

It's funny you mention the last time you had your hair done. My last time was in early February too. It is getting way too long! I hope you were able to get the internet going. It seems like we can't live without it these days. Lizzy must make you laugh every day. She is a cutie!

I'm trying to imagine what it might feel like to switch my "stay home" location, and failing. :-) :-) :-)

Sounds like you are well-supplied with things go do (and you didn't even mention art supplies. :-)

I'll be enjoying imagining you taking good advantage of the water, and admiring those beautiful lake sunsets. :-)

How wonderful to have such a place to spend the summer. It is so beautiful. Love the light during the different times of the day. I grew up by a lake, so have a special place in my heart for lakes.

I hope your internet is up and working by now! Glad you’ve had lovely lake weather so far. It is SO HOT HERE! Way hotter than it usually is in June. I would love to be on a lake right now. But we are lucky to have several close to us. One is a mile walk so I plan to put Paul in the stroller and go there every day to swim fri-sun as it’s supposed to be 90 every day! I got him to go out in deeper water with me yesterday while Phil did his swim course. It took some coaxing but once we were out there (it wasn’t deep for me - but I wanted to be out of the super shallow water) he loved it. We worked on all the swim tricks he learned in swimming lessons and he kept asking to go on his belly. He cried and screamed when we had to leave to go home for lunch. We got a lot of sympathetic ‘I’ve been there’ looks from other parents and grandparents! Ha.

Jeanie, if you ever get tired of Lizzie, I have a "taker"--my husband walked by just when I was scrolling down from Lizzie's picture and he stopped and said "Scroll back. Scroll back!" I think he's smitten!

A nice peaceful sort of life it sounds too! What nice people Jeff and Lauren look, I think I'd have enjoyed a visit from them too!
