Going Green! The Official Start to My Holiday Season

One more post before we start England (which will indeed be interrupted more than once for holiday cheer!). It is now December but we hit the Northville Greens Market in November and it is my official start to the holiday season! My friend Jan and I always head down to this charming town to get our Christmas wreaths. They are always plain and we jazz them up later!

There are beautiful baskets which we never buy because we are sure we will have time to make our own (and often don't!).

And those glorious winter berries.

Then we check out our favorite home-dec store, Gardenviews.

I loved these towels...

...and this tinsel tree had my heart a fluttering. (Bad backlighting!)

This one was pretty, too.

Lots of red and white this year! I think that's so cheerful.

And this pillow was tempting!

Love the little glittery houses -- and it's a reminder that I have one to paint and glitter myself!

And I can't resist a little snow fellow!

Or a jolly old elf, for that matter! (I sort of wish I'd bought this one!)

Nearby shop windows were enchanting.

Too bad we won't be around to see this! It looks fun!

Loads of pretty, loads of fun. Let's hear it for Frosty!

What's on your Christmas list?

Have you posted your letter to Santa yet? (Let's hope the government doesn't shut down till after the holidays.)

I've updated my Gypsy Caravan -- you can click here  or on the menu tab above to order 5x7 and smaller note cards from my photos and watercolors. (Original watercolors coming soon!)

You really enjoy shopping and I can see why with so many beautiful stores to visit. Love the red berries and the back-lit tinsel tree. Those little bottle bush trees next to the glitter covered house reminded me of the decorations my mom had when I was going up.

Elvis Sinatra sign. Hope there's also a Frank Presley sign somewhere.
Anyway these two singers are eternal.

What fun! I decorated my little tree over the weekend and although small, I'm very happy with it.

Beautiful greenery and trees. So much fun to just browse the stores this time of year and enjoy the festive decorations! I do two 4 ft trees and a couple of really small trees. The bigger one's are done but the Kitchen tree is still waiting for ornaments. I don't rush myself but enjoy decorating as I have time. It's part of the holiday for me!

Absolutely LOVE shopping with you. You look for the most delightful and fun items that would also fit in my home, too. Some of the tiny trees I saw made my heart beat a bit faster! It's starting to look like Christmas is on the way!

So much exciting holiday cheer. I am with and the tinsel tree. I have my trees up, but now I need to finish the rest of the house. Maybe this week. I enjoyed all the inspiration of this post! Happy december. Hugs-Erika

It's so nice to look at festive trees and get ideas, Jeanie. These are so pretty. The baskets with the greenery and red bows are charming and would make nice gifts. Yes, I love red and white too.....it's a classic Christmas combination. Oh, those frosty people are so cute. I have about three, and want to get more! It sounds like you had a fun day at the Greens Market, Jeanie.

Beautiful wreaths.

I would love to visit this store as I have a weak spot for Christmas decorations, especially snowmen. I'm always interested in seeing the different ways people decorate their trees. Love the vintage look of the items you photographed. Hope you found some new treasures for your tree or home.

Hello, I see so many pretty decorations I love. It would be hard not to buy more, I have so many now that do not fit on my smaller tree. The winter berries are beautiful and I love the cute baskets. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and have a great new week!

Jeanie, what a nice way to spend a day with your friend! I love everything about Christmas and I have sworn off buying more decorations. Seeing all of these pretties would make it hard not to purchase! Wishing you a lovely week my friend!

Ohh Jeanie, how I love this area you are shopping. The market and charming shops decked out for the holidays is so charming. Love those baskets! The problem here in the south and using fresh greens is one I never learn. I'm like Charlie Brown and the Christmas tree...I bought three beautiful fresh wreaths planning to add my own ribbons. Before I could get them hung they were turning brown:( It was 76 degrees here yesterday and the fresh greenery will not hold up. When I smell the Christmas greenery it carries me back to my childhood and so does that movie marquee!!! Love this post.......Have a great week.

I love all the red and white -- it's such a beautiful, festive combination. I have to stay away from places like you've shown here, just because the temptation to buy always is strong, and I don't need to be doing that. On the other hand, those red berries wouldn't have to be limited to the Christmas season!

Fresh greens and berries are so beautiful. Thanks for a cheerful post filled with the spirit.

Wow...such beautiful Christmas decor. I love both those beautiful trees. The first one looks old fashion like. Love the towels also. Everything looks so nice and Christmasy. Thanks for sharing. Looks like you had a great time being out and about.

Ooooo.... what FUN sooo many lovelies! So many pretty temptations... Those tea towels are great... That frosty snowman is sooo sweet. Wonder what the Elvis-Sinatra show is--intrigued! Happy week dwelling in all the festivity, Jeanie! :) ((HUGS))

What a fun outing, so many temptations! I love the towel that says it's fine to wine!! I went to a cute shop yesterday and was so proud of myself for not buying anything, holiday decorations are always so cute they are are hard to resist...I am trying to scale down, not add to! This time of year I wish I was living further north like you, with snow on the ground instead of mounds of ever falling leaves! Leaves look awful with holiday decorations :)

I do believe red and white is the Christmas color palette this year. The show I went to was alot of red and white too. How I love, love everything I am seeing here. The snow man may have come home with me too. Then love the winter berries and gorgeous trees. Sparkly houses and bottle brush trees, I think I need more.

Beautiful decorations! My favorite was the baskets...and of course, like you, I would think I could make them myself and then fail to do so.

What a fun outing!

The main thing on my Christmas list this year is good health for my friends and family. Although, I won't say no to presents too. ;)

What fun outing. That's a great holiday tradition! The #1 thing on my list is a full night of sleep. Ha! Will Santa bring that? We'll see (we will likely sleep train later this week if Paul gets a clean bill of health as his 9 month appt today). Other than that, I asked for a new electric blanket from Phil's mom as I've worn out the one she gave me several years ago. That's about it for my wish list! We have really really cut back on gifts in my family. My parents started sponsoring a family last year instead of getting us gifts, which I Love because I really do not need anything and have a hard time thinking of something I want! Joan still gets us gifts but I'm trying to get her to move to experience-based gifts, like a zoo pass or swim lessons for Paul. But I know she enjoys picking things out and wrapping them up so I'm trying to balance her desire to give us things with our desire to not come home with lots of stuff! ;)

I love to go to places like that to get inspired for decorating and to get in the Christmas spirit. Looks like a great trip!
