I'm writing about Tradition over at Modern Creative Life this week. I hope you'll check in there and take a look at some of our traditions and share some of yours in the comments. This is my last post for this wonderful online site before it stops publishing new work, and I will miss it. I thank Debra, Becca and Melissa, the site's editors, for giving me the opportunity to write pieces slightly different than most of those here on the Gypsy, and wish them wonderful things as they pursue new opportunities. Older posts will remain and I suggest looking down the pages. Lots of inspiring, thoughtful work there.
Our Thanksgiving was anything but traditional this year! Normally, you find us at home but this year we had two Thanksgivings. The first was with Rick's cousins and aunts. We brought bread and pie to the table!
Stephanie and Brian brought this fun cheese ball turkey with peppers and pretzels as the feathers and face. It doesn't show as well here as it should but it was so cute and really tasty too!
The kids were especially great and fun to be around. (I love that in the background in the photo below, Evan and Jilly (age 2) seem to be having quite the conversation.

The second was with Molly's family. And of course we got to see the Baby Grands! It's fun that our Little Big Guy is big enough to go walking and even though it was a bit drizzly, we enjoyed the time outside with him.

Time for Grandpa, where they engaged in a little bit of mimicry (Rick was mimicking the new tongue-out habit!)
But I loved this picture most. Snotty noses and all!
And of course our Little Guy is getting bigger every day -- he's in the 100th percentile for his age and two inches taller than his brother was at four months! And he's very happy. We hope he's still happy when Rick and I baby sit for them this weekend!

Seriously cute baby and it's oblivious you and Rick love being around children.
Your baby grands are so adorable! I love a chubby baby so I bet the young one has lots of cute rolls. Hopefully he's a good sleeper since he's big for his age. Sometimes that seems to help! Paul is on the opposite end of the spectrum as he's barely 5th percentile and he's just finally moving out of 3-6 month clothes at 9 months! :P

The baby grands are so cute. Honestly, they are just adorable. Our baby grand is in the 14th percentile and short as he can be. I have no idea why he is so short since his father, my son is over 6’ tall and his mother is probably 5’9”.

Your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful. I think two Thanksgivings sound great. The turkey cheese ball is such a cute idea. I never would have thought of that. SO glad you were able to spend time with the baby grands. I hope you all enjoy the time you spend with them this weekend babysitting.

Yes, that moon would take my breathe away too. What a wonderful picture through the trees. Two Thanksgivings is just right! Each in their own way, just perfect. Rick's bread is amazing. The turkey with pretzels is cute and I know I would love nibbling on that. Then the grands are always wonderful to see them growing and thriving.

What fun you had for Thanksgiving. That was some fun holiday and two great meals and times, too. Rick's bread stole the show, but big baby grand made me smile. Little baby grand looks SO happy, so I hope you have your camera ready to take lots of wonderful shots tomorrow.

You know the old song and dance, "I'm so busy with teaching!" But it's true.
Look at that moon. It was stellar, wasn't it! On Thanksgiving night, I had looked out my front window that faces east and over my neighbor's darling Christmas light clad cottage, there was the brightest, fullest moon. What a gift.
You look like you had a memorable time of family, fun and generations of family members that will one day remember this particular day with great fondness. We write stories without even knowing it, don't we!

Hi Jeanie. I love your family's traditions. When we lived in Santa Cruz around all the family and our folks were alive, we had many traditions that were repeated year after year. We had wonderful times when the kids were all little, but everyone grew up and got married or moved away, as we did, and now we have mostly memories. But that is a good thing too. Now, each year is special unto itself and we enjoy them all. Your pictures are just precious and I read your article. I enjoyed it all..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy
