Once again, life is a bit slow. Rick just returned from Florida this week, where he spent time with his dad and saw old friends. He got to travel -- now I am armchair traveling! It's time to share long-ago travel photos from the archive!

This time it is Japan. I think we went in the early 2000s. (I track this by our having come together in 1996 and the trip seemed like a few years after!) Rick has been many times, sometimes for work and sometimes for pleasure, and made many friends, some of whom had lived here while on an exchange mission for a year. He was very involved with our regional Japan-America society, serving as their interim director for some time and we have a sister city in Otsu. So the connections are deep.

Chigasaki is about 35 miles from Tokyo. We had a great view from this dock! Otsu and Kyoto  | Our friends in Otsu. Naoki and Kanako spent a year in the US. We stayed with them and their parents. |

Japan is an interesting country and I've barely scratched the surface. For me, it is flood of memories of new experiences and new friends.

These were fun to see. Especially since the only one that looked vaguely familiar was the shrine in Kyoto. I loved visiting Japan. It is such a beautiful country and the people are so nice too. It was a trip of a lifetime for certain. Thanks for sharing and hope your armchair travel won't go on for too too long. Are you counting the days to your surgery? hugs-Erika

Thanks for this post, I love the photos so much! We were in Japan in 2012 and it was so fabulous that I'd love to go back! We spent time in Tokyo, Hiroshima and at the Miyajima shrine as well. Yes, those deer loved their Bambi Cookies!
What beautiful photos! I love the closeup of Buddha’s hands. Tokyo is on my husband’s bucket list. I am not so enthralled by the idea of Tokyo for some reason, but the rest of the country looks so beautiful.

Wonderful memories of a fascinating country! I would love to travel there. When we started out in California, we had a few friends from Japan who were on an exchange program with my husband's company. Unfortunately they had to go back very suddenly because of job cuts and we eventually lost touch. My husband was in Japan once for work and he came back with so many stories. Your photos are beautiful and tell a lot of stories. I'm not sure I could still do all the sitting on the ground - I'll get down, but getting up will look very ungracefully. Oh well. Does Rick speak Japanese? I enjoyed this post very much, Jeanie.
