There was time to paint.
And time to watch the birds. Yes, Mrs. Wren (aka Wrennie) has a nest in the B&B, we think. We've seen her in and out enough but no other signs of life, so we shall see!
I enjoyed a little theatre...
...and a little music on a riverboat (more on that later!).
We said a final farewell to a friend.
The memorial was held at the environmental center where he had been executive director and the setting couldn't have been more perfect.
After the memorial we enjoyed "outdoor food" (which was delicious) and wandered around the center. Rick took a canoe ride.
It was beastly hot but as we enjoyed the wildflowers and woods, we were all divinely content.
This beautiful tree was losing its blossoms and it felt like each fallen petal was a tear for John.
Then came Father's Day! As you probably know from the last post, Rick's son Kevin couldn't be here with our Baby Grand and Greg was away but Molly came with our special guy who has his grandpa wrapped around his finger!
We first enjoyed a nice brunch...
...then took a walk around the neighborhood.
The big deal of the day was when our little guy walked by the fire station around the corner. He became very interested in seeing what was behind the partially open door!
The wonderful people there, Cody and Erika, welcomed us and gave us all a bit of treat by inviting us in to see the trucks.
Some even got to sit in the truck!
Which was pretty cool!
And we were all enjoying our day!
But all that work can make a little guy tired.
So, it was back to a little grandpa time before hitting the road.
It's hot as all get out here. I'm not complaining, really. Observing. After the winter I said I wouldn't complain.
But I'm "observing" quite a bit today!
Let's just say I'm not quite "fresh as a daisy!"

Love the B&B-idea :-)
And, awww that riverboat looks wonderful! Can´t wait for the more to come-part!
I´m sorry you lost a friend, glad it was a good service/ceremony, though. And the tree sure did a wonderful job, too.
So important to leave such a place with a nice picture, I think.
Such a cute age, my Nieces are all over this already, sadly.
Nice of the firefighters to share :-)
Never complain about heat - here it´s cool again...
The daisies are beautiful, ahhh, summer!
Looks like you've been having a fun time, even if you did have to say goodbye to an old friend. That Riverboat looks spectacular, wow! Baby Grand is so big already, and isn't he gorgeous! And I'm looking forward to seeing what you painted....Hugs, Valerie
Hello, your baby grand is adorable. I like the cute B&B bird house. So sorry about the loss of your friend. Love the tree and pretty iris. Have a happy day!
Looks like you had a good week.
Sorry for your loss, but glad everything else in your world is good... Even if you are a bit warmer than you might like right now.
Absolutely precious days!!
Wow - you've had a week full! First, let me express my sympathy for the loss of your friend. The *single* good thing about losing track of almost all old friends from 'back in the day' is that I don't know when they've passed on.
Lucky you to carve out time to paint. I really REALLY need to get into the studio and finish up a few projects, but just can't seem to get up the muse. So I read novels and watch old movies and take naps LOL. By the way - I love your folk art bird house - did you make it?
I'm looking forward to your paddle showboat tale ... is that the America Riverboat? It looks like the photos of the boat that my parents took a couple times on mini-cruises down the Mississippi to New Orleans. I've always loved riverboats - our senior prom was held on the Belle of Louisville, a grand old riverboat on the Mississippi (not sure if it's still around - I haven't been on one since LOL) and had a terrific time.
Stay cool - it's also blazing hot here. I'm not nearly as graceful about it as you are - I loathe it! LOL We're spending some time in NYC this week - and again next week - so I'm hoping that it cools off. Whenever it's 95 degrees here, it's 100 in NYC - and people are sooooo grumpy! LOL
Enjoy your week - and thanks for sharing yours. Again, my sympathies for your loss.
You've certainly packed a lot of good things into your week. I would just love to follow you around but I would have trouble keeping up! Those little ones sure have lots of energy and when they get tired...they rest! Any time any place! heehee! Enjoy your day sweet friend. I'm wondering what you're reading this week! Hugs!
Lol, We're "observing" here in WV too, Jeanie. 75° at 7am this morning as we walked.....enjoying summer, daisies and all! Loved the music, sounded Native American - was he playing a reed?
Yesterday was a hot mess here..humid ..you know like the worst wet hot camping /holidays:)I said I would not complain either and didn't..I did what I could outside before the showers..and like you happily painted indoors in the aft.
That baby..I knew he would take over:) LOL The same thing happened here..and now our joys are different with them.Rick almost seems to be in Monets Pond:)
Have a great week! See the Vivian paints? Mine came MISSING one circle:( I am still not over it..visibly:)
What an adorable little grandbaby. How wonderful that you get to spend time with him. He is so cute and how nice of the people at the firestation to let him to have a peek and a sit down! Not too warm here today but we are having lovely dry weather which is a bonus over here. It doesn't get very humid here, thankfully. Heat and humidity are not my friends! orry about your friend. (((hugs)))) Enjoy the summer while we can eh! xoxo
Great snaps of enjoying summertime with your family. Lovely idea for the memorial location. Such a beautiful spot. I love your thoughts on the petals, so sweet.
Enjoy your week Jeanie.
THIS, to me, is summer. Outdoor theatre, a flute playing in tandem with birdsong, friends, family, freshly cut grass, all of it here.
What a lucky grandson! Looks like a pretty sweet week, although I'm sorry for the passing of your friend.
Your posts always make me feel happy. That Rick is an absolute keeper.
Your weekend was beautiful and beautiful documented, as well.
what a lovely post - and a fitting remembrance for your dear friend.
yes, it all looks very, very nice. Happy for you!
The "little guy" looks adorable. He's your source of greatest pleasure. Enjoy it!
I'm sorry about the death of your friend. His memorial service looks lovely.
You're grandson is adorable!
First of all I'm dong a lot and I really mean A LOT of observing around here this past week. A bit better this week but not much. Love the Grandson pics. Gosh he is cute and such a great age. My Grands went to the Mountains for the weekend with their Dad and had a great time. He is such a good Dad! It's a busy week for me but hoping a good one, despite 'observing' the heat! Hugs!
Hello Jeanie :
I learned from your comment on my blog that you visited St. Jacobs last year. If ever you return to this area be sure to let me know ahead of time so that we can give you the benefit of local knowledge and spend a little time with you, have you over for dinner....stuff like that. Best regards, David
Aw, what a cutie! You can complain. I don't mind. When the weather is SO hot, it's hard to refrain from a little complaining at least.
We have a cooler day today. I wish it would stay this way for a while.
That fire truck must have made an impression!
Great photos! I love the birdhouse. Did you paint it?
Regards Cath
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, but you did have a very exciting week. Father's Day seemed like one fantastic day. Rick and Baby grand seem to have a very special bond. Those photos are just precious. Hugs-Erika
How sweet that your little guy got to sit in the fire truck. I am sure he loved it. Your days sound special, even the memorial service sounded just right. Then the music was just lovely. I expected to see an American Indian dancing.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Jeanie. It does look like he had a special tribute. That was so nice they opened up the firehouse and let little man sit on the truck. Firefighters are usually pretty great people, aren't they? -Jenn
It does sound like a very good week. That little guy is adorable. He will remember the big red truck for a long time.
Amalia
xo
Except for the loss of your friend, and what I'm sure was an emotional memorial service, it did look like a wonderful week, Jeanie! Your grandson is adorable and I know how much you and your husband must enjoy him.
I figured out most of my blog problems..haha--so all is well. I have comment moderation on now and much less spam.
Another wonderful blog Jeanie. I am so sorry about the loss of your friend, but as you said, the memorial was perfect, right down to the tree. Take good care of Carson. Hopefully you all won't have to deal with jealousy when the new one arrives. Love to all.
What a wonderful place to have a memorial tribute for your friend. A great day for your grandchild to be able to sit on the fire truck and spend time with the wonderful grandparents.
Looks like you have had a really fun but busy week! Enjoy every minute of summer! Have a great week!
So sorry on the loss of your friend. What a lovely place with the flowers and trees and the canoe area. Very peaceful looking. I bet the firehouse visit was a blast for him on Fathers day! Glad they got to come. Hope you are having a great week and I'm looking forward to a post on the riverboat!
It's always sad to lose a friend, but when the memorial setting is so special, it can bring tears of both joy and sadness. I hope it was uplifting.
Not to be a snoop, but is Molly pregnant again?
I don't care what you say. I didn't complain about winter, but I'm DYING here in this heat, even with the AC going full blast. Our temps are higher this year than in years past. I hope you aren't as unrefreshed as I am at the end of the day!
OK, what's this about a riverboat? You have piqued everyone's interest, now.
Well, this riverboat is absolutely fabulous! You have such a rich life Jeanie, filled not only with great and uplifting experiences but this precious grandson to top it all off!
Just gorgeous Summertime happenings!
J.
A lovely post - great photos. I look forward to seeing what you painted. The memorial looks like a beautiful remembrance. The firehouse photos are fun and the pictures of grandfather and grandson are perfect. I've been working on several art projects at once (you have to do something while waiting for the paint to dry), but haven't finished much.
You two are always out and about having some fun times...interesting places you visit. Thanks for sharing. I love it all.
What a wonderful week! So sorry about your dear friend. I love that the petals were falling for him. Little guy is so cute and what a great fireman he would be some day! :)
hugs,
Jann
Sounds like a nice week indeed. Even saying goodbye to a friend was held in a lovely spot.
Baby grand gets more adorable each day, I love the photo of him and Rick looking under the door. How exciting sitting in a fire engine! that was very nice of them to open up and let you in. Who is his furry friend? I’m sorry for the loss of your friend, the memorial setting is beautiful. I’ve started painting again and have re-joined the art group in my village. I have enjoyed reading what you have been up to, your ditch walks, time with friends, you certainly are living life to the full Jeanie - enjoy.
Love.
It looks and sounds lovely! but you do have a gift of looking at the good side of things. The little one gets sweeter every day!
Just me -- testing!
Jeanie, so sorry about your friend John. But his memorial looked to be a fitting occasion. Love the photos, especially the one of your guys peeking under the door. Hope you get a chance to rest up a bit!
I’m so sorry about the passing of your friend. It looked like a beautiful place to celebrate his life, though.
Baby Grand is so darn adorable. I can’t wait to see his little baby brother! Molly sure looks great, especially for being in the final stages of her 2nd pregnancy. I bet she is really not enjoying the hot and humid weather! It’s been so humid here, too. I am trying not to complain but I also am not feeling ‘fresh as a daisy’ most days either! I do hope the warm weather sticks around for the week of the 4th as I will be at the lake most of that week, enjoying my last full week of maternity leave. :(
I see the paints . . .
The pictures??
Loved the invite to see the firetruck . . .
Wonder if he will remember his “ first visit!”
Baby yet??
I always write this to you. You live in a very well and happy world...Such a gift...A friend of mine says the key is the gratitude for one's good like...
