All aboard for an early evening cruise on the Michigan Princess riverboat!
And here's a bit of night music to enjoy on our cruise! The classical guitar and cello duet, "Light Blue." (the composer, Giorgio Mirto, is heard in this playing.) Cue the music!
We arrived in time to stroll around the deck before the concert began. It was a perfect summer evening!
The Michigan Princess has been around for a long while. I was pleased to learn that a former high school classmate was now its owner/manager.
Inside, it has been beautifully appointed with numerous tables on its three decks to accommodate parties and a dance floor as well. I loved the details like the inverted acorn finials on the stairwell.
The view from above was lovely. This is Michigan's Grand River, which runs through much of the state.
I wouldn't want to swim in it, but there are plenty of fishermen and boaters and on this evening a number of them were enjoying the warm temperatures and sunny skies.
As we moved along, we could see some lovely homes along the riverbank.
Show time!
The evening included five pieces by Boccherini, Vivaldi, Paganini and Mirto and was a beautiful combination of guitar, violin, cello and viola.
We especially loved hearing our friend Giogio's piece beautifully played by Igor Cetkovic on cello and Matthew Cosgrove on guitar. Igor had been the cellist at the world premiere of this piece with the Saginaw Symphony last winter during his visit to Michigan.
As I listened it reminded me of many wonderful times. When Rick was at music camp recently, he, too, took on the guitar part of this duo. (But I actually think the way it's written, the cello is the star. Which, I might add, I think is very generous for a composer who is a guitarist to do.)
It was a beautiful venue for classical music and a wonderful evening.
We were sorry to have it end.
For those in the mid-Michigan area, the next classical concert, an all-Vivaldi evening, will be on Thursday, July 12.

Music on the water sounds like heaven
What a perfect evening!
What a magical time you must have had. Not just good music, but good classical music. What a lovely set of great photos of both the musicians and the surroundings from the boat. It's a wonderful boat, too. A genuine gem. So glad you brought this concert and these photos to us today.
I should have included that it sounded like it was chamber music at its finest.
I was on that same river boat a couple of years ago. It was fun and the food was really great. Glad you had an equally good time as we did.
I can just imagine what a magical night it was! I've never been on a river boat, definitely a bucket list wish! I love the outcome of you and your husband...you have such a radiant smile!
I've wanted to thank you, Jeanie, for the very thoughtful card you sent me after my surgery. I so appreciate it and I'm a bit late in telling you. My husband recently brought home a small stack that was covered by the usual mess on his desk! So I thank you from the bottom of my heart. :)

Wow...........amazing! Love this post! What an elegant and beautiful boat, I'd love to go for a nice ride on this one. Love the picture of y'all too, one of your best!--love your cute outfit and your sunglasses to match! Looks like a WONDERFUL evening!
PS, i loved the picture of the river too!
What a very beautiful boat, especially with the lights on!
Somehow, though, I expected rather something jazzy, something to dance wildly to (not that I can dance). But this must´ve been lovely either way. And you look very happy, too :-)
Beautiful railing and spindles in that one picture! What a lovely evening. I thought you were going to say that Rick was part of the musical entertainment. I love the sound of a cello. -Jenn
Hello, this sounds like a lovely evening. The boat ride and music is wonderful. Lovely photos. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
That looks like a wonderful evening how lovely. I've always wanted to go on one of those paddle boats.
Sounds like the kind of event I would very much enjoy. I have to say that I don’t think of a world première with the Saginaw Symphony! I doubt that this gave the piece much exposure and few people will have heard of it.
Perfect perfect evening!
That really does look like fun! And look at you...LOVE your outfit and those cute sunglasses! I think I need some of those! Enjoy your day sweet friend. Hugs!
If only our rivers were as lovely -- and could support such vessels. We have a lot of rivers, but narrow and shallow don't allow for many riverboats -- lucky you to have such a fine experience.
A riverboat cruise, classical music and lovely weather - a perfect combination. I have just returned from the lunchtime concert at our cathedral, piano and oboe, it was very good.
what a spectacular evening! Thanks for sharing it!

Deep Blue nighttime sky . . .
The Michigan Princess is magical, Jeanie. I know how grand it must be, as me and the girls went on the Delta Queen one time. The music sounds lovely. What a fun time you had!

These little river cruises are so much fun aren't they. We took a cruise on Georgian Bay last summer that was so lovely. I hope we get to try another somewhere else this summer.
I bet this was lots of fun ... romantic, peaceful!
What a lovely evening, Jeanie!!! I would think you and your hubby must have been soooo relaxed by the time the concert and boat ride were over... sigh! Your title made me think of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart ~ perhaps that was your play on words?? I am not any kind of connoisseur of classical music, but I enjoy listening when I can. My father on the other hand was... He was brilliant and could play anything placed in front of him on the piano. <3
Thank you for a lovely post. Oh! I've been pinning your travel posts to my Road Trip! Plane Trip! board on Pinterest for you, btw.
Hugs,
Barb :)
How fun. I think Bill and I need to do something like that. I bet you didn't want it to end. Thanks for linking to Keep In Touch.
Sounds like a wonderful night Jeanie! Hubby and I would both love the boat and river, oh; and of course the music! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
