(Egrets? I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention...)
But I'm mentioning them anyway because they are so darned beautiful!
Talk about testing your zoom -- they weren't exactly close.
But so graceful and so lovely against the green of the pond and the reeds.
I have to admit, I remained captivated by these two. I know you can't tell the difference. Neither can I. But there were definitely two in two different parts of the pond.
And in the trees, so there may have been more -- or maybe one flew up while I was looking at the other around the corner. I noticed the big white blob in the tree, which Bird Lady (the woman who feeds the ducks at the pond) said was a heron -- she saw one fly up there.
Every pose, every twist of the head, every sudden movement as it scoops up its snack in a sudden, lightning-flash motion just fills me with awe. I love to watch them stalk their prey!
These lovely creatures are only here for a day or so -- and then off.
Off to warmer climates for the winter.
So, my Southern friends, if you see Ella or Eddie (I know, I can't tell the difference but I'd like to think one is male, one female and they are together), tell them hello -- and hurry back next spring.
Because I'll be missing them!

I see them in Florida..here I get to the the odd heron..but never an egret..
they are almost tame in Fl and get on the patio table to be fed..I "lovem"..the white against sand and sea:)

They are beautiful! Yes, I believe they are a pair and traveling together. At least that is what we can believe. In flight they capture our hearts, Walking through the water they delight us.

Something lovely to look forward to after winter ices over the pond (something you will, no doubt, capture the beauty of).
I'm so glad you have at least a few egrets! It is hard to tell male and female apart, except in breeding season. Then, there's not much question, as the legs, eye area, and of course feathers all conspire to make the male a truly handsome dude.
Like you, I love watching them fish. How they can change from white statues to mean, lean, fishing machines in a flash is just amazing. Happy watching!

Well I didn't get to see 'my' egret as close as yours. So it's great to see your pics much clearer albeit I know u took them from a distance too. Nice photo editing then. Glad you did it your way! ��
We have several! There is one in particular who lived for years at the same pond off the boulevard. We'd see him there every year. I just saw one in a TREE a few days ago, and when I first spotted it, I thought it was a white plastic bag that had gotten stuck on a limb. But it was Mr. Egret. Beautiful whispers of summer are these birds!
Glad you got to see them. Hope they have a safe flight South, and return North safely in Spring.

Jeanie, I don't think you know this, but the Egrets fascinate me. These are lovely picture of a beautiful bird. I love the one of the Egret's reflection in the water. And the bird lady who feeds the ducks at the pond - that's a nice thing to do. I have a blog friend who does the same thing, and they are like family to her. :)

lol... that was funny. I've seen those birds around her sometimes, I never knew what they were called. I just call them "those white, big skinny birds" which I think is the definition of "Egrets" lol
