In my last post, I took you along with Rick and me for a color ride. We had such a wonderful time checking out the fall color near the cottage -- and it was just getting better and better!
So, when my friend Susan called and said she was coming to Gaylord, we decided to do another color tour.
We started out where Rick and I had been, at Treetops Resort, so if some of these pix seem familiar, it's the same setting but a couple of days later, so the color was even MORE vibrant!
I honestly believe that although the day was cloudier, the trees were brighter and more colorful than they had been three days before.
We had a wonderful lunch, catching up, as we looked out the windows at the rolling hills, ablaze with autumn's finest. (No patio for us! It was a little too nippy!) Then it was onward!
Is there anything better than riding around on a gorgeous autumn day with a good friend you've not seen in a while, having a great conversation, good lunch, and so much eye candy it's hard to take it all in!
After a while, I suspect all these photos are redundant. So, without much commentary, a few of my favorites.
Bare branches...
Contented cows.
Skittish deer.
Very skittish.
An intriguing foundation -- a barn perhaps?
Picturesque dirt roads.
And what do you think those spouts on this rock wall are for? Drainage, perhaps? But why?

It always amazes me how brilliant, almost eye-blinding, the colors are in our lovely state. People always speak of New England as the epitome of fall color areas, but surely our beloved Michigan gives that mind set a run for their money. Several years ago a gentleman who had been our driver/guide of several tours of Ireland and his wife were guests of our group who took them on a color tour of your area and Mackinac Island. They were "gob-smacked" to use their term, when seeing what we take for granted, our stunning fall landscapes, as Ireland has nothing to even suggest such a thing.
It’s wonderful to enjoy autumn’s fest for the eyes before the other shoe drops. I think we will try to get out somewhere today. We’ve had poor weather for a few days and have rain in the forecast for after today.

This year’s colors seem to me to be even more brilliant than usual. I hope the leaves hang on for a while: it’s always so depressing when the trees are bare that were just vividly animated. I love your white fence photos.

Goodness gracious that is colourful! Just when you think it can't get any better Mother Nature always comes up with the goods! When I lived in Virginia I remember actually finding the fall colours completely overwhelming. I find green such a calming colour and on a long drive back from colonial Williamsburg to Virginia Beach one day I found the endless corridor of orange and yellow almost a bit too much for my senses.

Wow, those reds are amazing. With our summer drought we don't seem to have that deep color as much as yellow this year. Beautiful photos Jeanie. You even saw some adorable animals too. And FYI back to our email. Even though I now have books all over my daughter's spare room, I did find Aggie's Hallowe'en Party. Smile. Good thing I am doing some book purging and cleaning. Yes, that's me -- over here quivering in the corner and muttering, "It's just not fair!" That abundance of color is so wonderful, it does sometimes seem unfair that we can't all have it, but: life isn't fair, etc. Thank goodness we have you to show us the glories of your area! That last photo of the fellow on his tractor is especially nice. Fall plowing must be at least a little more enjoyable with all that color to look at!
Not redundant at all for me! I have LOVED your Michigan color this year, it's simply brilliant. I also love seeing color both with blue, sunny skies as well as cloudy. There's just something about the saturation of colors that makes the differences so enjoyable on cloudy days vs sunny.

The colors are amazing! I do believe that color comes out better on a more cloudy day - the "gray" seems to support and enhance the colors. Your drive with all its wonderful views is simple spectacular. We do have nice autumn color here in CA, but not on a scale like yours.

The Scarlet red is really something! Our leaves are mostly dropped after a couple of windy days. The late turning oaks and tamarack (also known as larch) are at their burgundy and golden peek right now.
Your color tour is a sight for sore eyes, friend! We had so little rain this summer than it affected how the leaves have responded come October. Thanks for sharing this awesome beauty!

Apologies if someone else has answered this already: Here, drainage spouts are built into retaining walls so that water doesn't build up behind the wall, creating a muddy mess whose weight will eventually destroy the wall. Walls built without them, and the muddy soil behind them, are still frequently found in the form of piles of rubble blocking roads.
So beautiful! The color this year has seemed even more extravagant than usual, and it's a great treat to see your pictures here (especially with the contrast of the brilliant white fence). So glad you had the chance for a second tour! Happy Weekend!

Oh my that looks unreal. What a beauty, those reds are just stunning.
Wow! Those colors are stunning! Your fall colors have Minneapolis beat for sure! Our colors are just not as vibrant, but I think the drought is partly to blame. It's been very windy and cold here lately so we've lost a lot of leaves. I'm glad I enjoyed the views while I could on runs and walks.

These are breathtaking, Jeanie! All the seasons are beautiful in their own way, but autumn win, hands down. I may prefer summer for warmth, longer, lazier days, the beach, etc., but fall is Mother Nature's masterpiece, for sure! Thanks for sharing such glorious pictures!

Jeanie, you have the most color in your area of anyone I know in blog land. Such a glorious Fall you are having. I haven't seen the bold colors yet, but I'm starting to see the changing of the trees here. I love that photo of the white fence and the Autumn trees in the distance. That's simply beautiful. And another photo I loved was the road, which was so charming. And the deer are always a blessing to see. I couldn't believe it when one showed up on my front porch the other day. I was in awe. Jeanie, what a great day you had not only because you saw a good friend, enjoyed a nice lunch but treated us once again to more eye-popping colors. FYI, the dirt road one was my favorite in this grouping. We were on a drive Sunday and saw quite a lot of glorious autumn color along the highway. In years past I was always snapping away, but now just sit back and enjoy while Grenville drives.
