Needless to say the past week or so has been pretty grim, as you probably know from THIS post.
This is the pile of trash from the first clean-out. Those big bags were stuffed down as far as they could go and the total of black bags was 30. Yup. Another 14 to Goodwill. And more to come.
Which is my lame excuse if I don't reply personally to your wonderful and supportive comments for a bit. (Especially all the nice art comments from HERE. Wow, you made me smile.) I am overwhelmed right now so for the time being I'm just going to do a big group thank you and if anyone asked something specific, I'll be with you as soon as I can. The same with visiting. I'm getting close to caught up but you all write faster than I can read these days!
It's not just the clean-up. It's the being sick with it. For six days now, I have been dealing with temps varying from 99.5 (not bad, except my normal is 97.4!) to 102.8. Every single day. And more coughing and such. Oh, and the chills. And the sweats. And fatigue. I went to the doc on Monday and they did chest Xrays and blood work. I have a bacterial infection along with the start of something called Community Acquired Pneumonia. Very bad for my complicated lung history.
I am more than a little freaked. My friend Jan came by today and brought these flowers. After she left I cried and cried because her world isn't easy these days with an ill cat. It meant more than I can say.
And what's not to love about pink flowers when you are a bit down an out?
It's still up in the air as to whether or not the mold had an impact on either. Needless to say I'm taking a break before I go down there again for any length of time. (I don't have the energy, for one thing.)
Next on the agenda, calling reputable restoration companies. Not how I planned on spending my June! I think Lizzie is getting spoiled with having her litterbox in the family room. I, on the other hand, am getting really tired of seeing it there!
Whining over! Because despite the fever (we practiced good hygiene with the babies, although I'm not sure Rick had it as well with me next to him in bed) we had a nice time over Father's Day weekend babysitting the Grandlittles.
I wish I had taken photos while we were at the swings because there were so many smiles and great colors -- but we were having too much fun! Later in the evening after mom and dad went to dinner, the boys got a little concert.
And both boys were curious about the guitar!
Nothing can be so gross or so much fun as watching a hungry baby eat!
Meanwhile, while we had dinner, we turned on Carson's favorite movie, "Cars." He stood in this position for at least 10 or 15 minutes without moving.
Then he got into this position.
All in all, good times!
I leave you with two of my favorite Father's Day pics -- brothers who get on...
...and a Grandpa who loves them more than anything!
I'm slow visiting, but don't disappear! I'll be catching up full throttle as soon as I can!

You wonder what toddlers that age think of music.
I hope you are getting some rest Jeanie. I think you are smart to follow doctor's orders and stay out of the basement. But good for you to have cleaned out that much. It can't be fun and I wish I lived closer as I would help-at least lug out bags of trash for you. I hate when the house is disarranged and so I can understand your frustrations. But I must say those are gorgeous flowers. I love how they have speckles of other colors in them. And those boys are pretty cute for sure. They have to cheer you up. TAke care of yourself and try to enjoy a bit of the month. Hugs-Erika
What sweet grand babes. My youngest is 12 now. They grow up so fast. Janice
What the heck is community acquired pneumonia?? I've been coughing for a couple of months now. It seems to be slowing down a bit. Yes, I think it's best if you stay clear of mold right now. Hope the restoration team does a good job for you. -Jenn
I am so sorry you have pneumonia. Love the pink flowers. What a nice gesture.
The Grands are darling.
Feel better.
I hope you feel better Jeanie! That was so thoughtful of your friend to bring you such beautiful flowers to cheer you up. What cute family photos. It looks like the boys had fun too.
I went through the flooded basement a few years back. It's a terrible amount of work!
The crude you have health wise sounds exactly like what I had 8 weeks ago. I'm glad you went to the doctor right away. I didn't and I've still got the nasty cough. Finally called the doctor this week to get a prescription. If that doesn't work I'm going in and get the blood work.
Sweet babies. Sweet grandparents!
I hope you get better soon.
Jeanie, I'm so sorry about feeling like crap. I really hope you will get better soon as you have so much to deal with. You have made excellent progress but I know you really would rather be doing anything else. The grandbabies are so sweet and I'm glad you guys had a chance to spend lots of time with them on Father's Day. Hugs and get better soon. xx
Oh, wow, we had temps like that here, too, and all I did was chill (and "run" to agencies, was I tired afterwards).
But isn´t it a good feeling, too, when you get rid of stuff you didn´t use anyways?
Oh, shoot, I wish you all the very best for your health, Jeanie!
The flowers are (a) beautiful (guesture).
That is the upside of watching cat-videos only, I don´t have to deal with the sad things, I think I´d had a very hard time...
Oh, yes, the mold, I remember way too well, brrrr...
"Gross and fun" made me laugh :-)
This is such a cute age! Enjoy! :-)
(Well, you did, as I can see)
The photos of the boys are adorable, love ll the expressions and positions! Sorry you still have so much to do, and aren't feeling good. Look after yourself, no fun with lung illnesses. Hope you soon feel better, hugs, Valerie
Oh, I sure hope you're feeling better soon. I've been feeling kinda lousy and since I'm allergic to mold I think it's all the rain we've been having (more right now!)... and the mold out in the leaves, etc.
Hire a company to help clean out and dry out your basement.
Your grands are just precious.
Jeanie, I think you have an extraordinary quotient of the "It could be worse gene." Between troubles with your feet while walking in England, Rick's broken leg, and the flood in the basement, you have dealt with a lot, yet somehow you seem to take hold of yourself and soldier on through it. I wish I lived closer. I would come and give you a hand. The I would cook a nice dinner fir you, crack open a bottle of wine, and toast the world.
Hello,
I am so sorry you are not feeling well, I hope you are recovering. The basement work looks like hard work, would the insurance help with the clean up? Your grandchildren are adorable. Cute photos. Take care and sending get well wishes. Wishing you a happy day!
My husband had some kind of lung infection almost all spring. I swore it was mold spores, but the doc never confirmed that. Your grandsons look as though they enjoy television. My grand doll will rarely sit long enough to watch anything!
Feel better soon.
Sure hope that your ills are not the result of the basement clearing out Jeanie, so you are wise to let it be till your health improves...even if that’s hard to do. Cute photos of the grands and glad you all had a nice day.
I still remember the day my mother -- properly, soft-spoken lady that she was -- said to me, "Just remember, Sweetie, life is just one ^%&# thing after the other." I was so startled to hear "that" word coming from her mouth, I never forgot the moment, or her advice. You're in the midst of those ($&*$ things right now, but it will be better. There's a lot of beauty, health, and goodness that will show up to balance out "all that."
I concur stay outta the basement..all those spores go directly into our lungs..poor you kiddo..
But very cute kiddos:)
You have had quite a few months there...only place to go..is up now:)
Take care~
Ugh, I am so sorry to hear that you are dealing with more water on top of being sick and needing to stay away from that basement! I hope you are able to find a reasonably priced restoration company! Fingers crossed! I love all the pics of your baby grands - especially the ones of them watching Rick put on a little concert. Kids love music so I bet they loved watching one of their favorite people put on a little show for them! Exposing kids to live music, even when it's a one-person home performance, is so important!! :)
Feel better, friend! And no apologies needed about responding to comments or visiting my blog!! Take care of yourself!!!!
I agree stay out of the basement. If you are running the furnace it’s possible that you are spreading it especially if there is ducting to the basement. Get the clean up crew in get rid of that mold. We called. ServPro and they did a great job. I know you aren’t feeling well a decision making is tough but I believe this is a real health hazard to you.
The pictures of the grands are always adorable- funny how little kids never stay still!
Take care of yourself, Liz
"Community Acquired Pneumonia" is just what it sounds like... a bacteria or viral illness in the lungs picked up from 'heaven-only-knows-where'!!
PLEASE take it seriously!!! I've taken care of far too many patients with it, and it can be fatal.
Jeanie, I am so sorry you are sick and still dealing with the basement on top of having a temperature. I hope you feel better soon and take care of yourself. The grand boys are so adorable!
I hate to hear how bad you feel! I hope you will take it easy and try to recover. You've done so much now but I know you want to keep going. Love the little boys...all of them! They bring smiles to our faces!
Sounds like our lives are running parallel. I have been cleaning out and throwing out and packing up bags for good will. It was the perfect time with all the maintenance going on here (my reason for being absent). Hope you are feeling better soon and do take care. I had pneumonia back in January and it took me several weeks before I was 100%. The grands are growing so fast, enjoy them while they are young. We celebrated our one and only grands birthday, eleven Father's Day weekend. I can't believe how fast our boy is growing up.........
Oh sweet Jeannie.....I had no idea so much havoc had occurred in your life. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to clean up a basement full of water. Hopefully your HOOPAZOOTIS (as my sweet aunt calls anything with a cough involved) clears up soon. Hopefully it is not mold connected.
BTW...l you, my friend, are a very good portrait artist. That watercolor of Rick is really quite good. Just sayin'.
Jo
Jeanie, I've gotten a little behind this month and just learned of your disaster. So sorry. And sick on top of it. Get well soon and keep up your beautiful attitude. Hugs.
Ugh, get better!
So sorry to ear that on top of everything, you are ill. Community Acquired Pneumonia simply means that you caught it in the Community and not in a Health care facility. It is simply a term to categorize patients with pneumonia.I hope you feel better soon..
Hugs,
Deb
Sometimes bad luck comes...But your optimism shines through, which holistic dr.'s say is an important part of healing. John's basement got flooded from a broken pipe and a restoration company came in. My recommendation would be for you to stay out of the basement as moisture like that can affect lungs...I know it's easier said than done though.
Love how you had so much happiness and joy with those little guys, in the midst of difficulties. Hoping things heal up real soon, Jeanie!
Sorry to hear you've been feeling ill, and hope that you recover soon. Those little faces can melt your heart - adorable!
I am sorry to hear about you Ms Jeanie, I hope you get well soon.
The boys are beautiful blessing :)
I'm sorry you're sick. Between how run down the past few months have probably made you, and the damp conditions while clearing up the mess in the basement, I can't say I'm surprised though. Hope you get to feeling better soon, and it won't be too much of an ordeal getting the damage repaired, and the rest of the mess cleaned up.
At least you have the baby grands to brighten your days.
I was worried about your lungs when I skipped back to the first post. I hope you feel better soon, and can find a good restoration company quickly. Do you have any friends who are Realtors? Or have a good Realtor they trust? One of our very good friends has been a Realtor for longer than I've been alive, and we always ask her when we're trying to find someone for any job around the house. They seem to know who's good, who's work lasts, and more important, who to stay away from.
It's so sweet how much time you and Rick spend with the grand kids.
Jeanie, so sorry you are sick. I rather imagine the basement was the root of your problems. Stay away from there until you are better. This is a perfect time for a little reading and lots of rest. Be good to you!
Such sweet pics of the grandkids listening to granddad playing them music. Such great memories.
So sorry to hear that you're not feeling well Jeanie, I agree that the mold in the basement has probably contributed to your chest infection problems. Hope you feel better soon.
That certainly was a lot of stuff that had to be thrown out and given away.
Awww, those photos with the children are heart-warming. It seems you've had a wonderful time. Hope you are felling much better now. x
You need to stay out of the basement, dear Jeannie. You also need to buy a good mask. One with a filter in it to wear when you finally DO venture back there. A mask made all the difference for me. Feel better soon and take care of yourself and Lizzie.
Have fun with the babies. They will cheer you and lift your spirits. Believe me, I know the pain you are going through.
I have to go back some and see what is going on and what is causing this major clean up but if you are around mold then please wear a mask, you are already sick. I understand about commenting and reading blogs, I am also behind and lagging. Mine is from several reasons. Feel better soon.
OOPS...so concerned about you and mold that I forgot...the babes are adorable.
Oh Jeanie, I am so sorry you are still dealing with the flooding and are so so sick! You must hire someone like ServPro to finish the cleaning, I am sure the mold is making you ill! Glad you got to spend time with your grands...
Jenna
Girlfriend, I hope YOU ARE GETTING WELL AND FEELING BETTER!! Please rest and take the meds they give you. I hated to hear you are sick. I love the pictures....those little blonde-headed boys ARE ADORABLE! Slow, healing, happy weekend to you!
Oh my goodness, Jeanie. I'll have to read backward to get caught up with you. Feel better soon! Those boys are the cutest. I love how enthralled they are with the guitar. Musicians in the making? Hugs from (snowy) CO.
Wow Jeanie, you're doing great going through stuff, giving away, and organizing. It's a lot of work for sure, but I always feel better when I do this. The pink flowers your friend gave you are so pretty, and look as if the petals are painted.
I'm so sorry to hear you're sick. You should rest now and take it slow. Seeing your grandchildren I know puts a smile on your face. They look like best friends in that picture laying beside each other.
Feel better, Jeanie. You mean a lot to the blog world.
~Sheri
Lovely to see your photographs.
Hope you are feeling lots better.
All the best Jan
Hope you are feeling better now. A water disaster and rhe cleanup afterwards is hard to deal with.
Tab soda reminds me of living in the college dorm. Now there are many sugar free soft drink choices, but at that time it was the only one. My friends and I would hang out, drinking Tab and talking back then.
Oh I missed that you had a sick cat. Hope all is well now or at least on the road to recovery. What sweet boys! Aren't they so special to have in your life? Thought flower gift too. They are beautiful.
Oh, Jeanie... this was BIG to deal with! :( With the flood aftermath and feeling unwell, it's no wonder you've been laying low, literally! How lovely the gift of flowers from your friend. Little things mean a lot! :) Glad there was time for happy times with the Littles. Goodness how big those sweet boys are getting! Hope all will go well as you refurbish there and continue the clean, etc... Be taking good care there, and hope you feel better and stronger as the days go. Here we are, almost July! ((HUGS))
I'm so sorry you have been sick while trying to deal with the flood. Your pics of the babies are adorable.
