Make and Take Tea 2016: The Tea

The second part of our Make and Take Tea day was -- the tea!

This is the second year Barb and I have done this and we learned a lot last year! So, by the morning of the tea the baked goods were done (and had been).

While we started baking and preparing sandwich fillings before the tea, the day before was devoted largely to set-up, carefully choosing cups from Barb's teacup collection!

I had printed a menu and the take away favors were a handmade bookmark that served as a place card...

... and a small bouquet of roses and spring flowers at each place.

Our menu included Marilyn Miller's astounding scones, Ina Garten raspberry bars, my favorite lemon shortbread and lemon bread recipes and pumpkin bread sandwiches with an apricot butter.

The chocolate mousse tarts were prepared the night before.

But before dessert, savories! We enjoyed an open-faced pimento cheese sandwich, an egg salad on white with chives on the edge, cucumber (of course!), ham and cheese fingers with pickle and a salmon salad sandwich.

Barb makes great fillings and thanks to Kate for helping us pull them together the morning of the tea, we even had time to relax on the porch and take in the morning air before guests arrived!

After we got people started on their scarf projects, we slipped upstairs to finish dressing the table and putting out the sandwiches and sweets. We also had (though not pictured) delicious fruit skewers.

And of course, tea was readied!

Time to sit down and enjoy lunch!

After we were stuffed it was time for a walk! Barb has mowed a seven-ring labyrinth in her yard and the group walked out in back, following its meditative path!

But before we said goodbye to the guests, here's another group photo! (This time I'm  the photographer!)

It couldn't have been a happier day!

This post is being shared with Elizabeth's T-day posts on Tuesday, Talk of the Town on Wednesday, Thoughts of Home on Thursday, Share Your Cup on Friday and Pink Saturday on -- wait for it -- Saturday! And special thanks to Beverly for featuring the Gypsy's Edible Hanging Basket from Southern Exposure last week! What a treat! (I was in the Land of No Internet and haven't been able to catch up with all the P.S. people yet -- but I will!)

It's wonderful that you joined us for T this week, Jeanie. And it couldn't have been a better time, either. Simply perfect first T post.

A genuine tea party with savory sandwiches and scones, too. No detail was overlooked, I can tell.

The tea cups, each with their own histories, must have been the perfect starting point for the tea party. Each bookmark was special, too. I would have LOVED to have been a fly on the wall for this beautiful event, including the silk scarves you taught each person to make. It appears to have been the perfect day, indeed.

Bleubeard and I thank you beyond belief for this first tea filled entry for T this Tuesday.

Your tea time looks just perfect. How I would have loved sitting down to tea with you there. Yummm! Pimento cheese looked so good on the flower shaped bread. That is one I haven't found the right combination for yet. I remember my mom making them for me when I was little.

Look at that table, it's so lovely! And so many wonderful goodies to eat. The tea cups are gorgeous. The pumpkin bread with the apricot butter caught my eye. I'm a pumpkin lover, and every week I get a pumpkin loaf and cup of coffee at Starbucks. The chocolate mousse tarts look amazing. What a nice gathering you had with your friends, Jeanie. Everything looks very nice. It looks like you had a peaceful walk too.

What a fun event! The food all looks so amazing. Your guests were very lucky to be invited to this event! And those tea cups are so beautiful! Love the bookmarks, too. What a useful favor to take home!

I am glad you all had such a great time and that you got a chance to walk around the yard as well. I've never seen a labyrinth, but I was reading about the resort in Wisconsin we are going to in June for a friend's wedding and it says there is a labyrinth so we will have to check it out!

Wow! You guys really pulled out all the stops! That gorgeous table must have been groaning under that delicious-looking spread. :-)

I know you all had fun making those amazing scarves, and what better favor from an almost-summer party than a bouquet?

Perfect. :-)

Wow.....what great table settings...wonderful.The sight of all the marvellous food made my mouth water.Everything looks perfect decorated.
Unfortunately I am not allowed to eat sweet food, because I have big problems with my gall. Two days ago I had a biliary colic. That was terrible. The problem is that I love sweets, especially chocolate.
Best wishes

Oh, my - you do such amazing things Jeanie. I am sure that nobody who goes to tea at the Ritz or Claridges can possibly experience a tea as delicious, elegant and beautiful as this.

Actually, I am envious too - I have never been invited to such a stunning looking event. I wonder if making a really beautiful tea could be a way of fundraising for charity. Many village fetes or open gardens offer the most beautiful home made cakes, so I am sure there are many good cake makers around. Whether anyone would have the lovely tea cup collection, though, is another matter!

Wow, what a gorgeous and yummy-looking tea. I'm sure everyone had a totally delightful time.

I am just getting back to blogging after a 2-year hiatus, and I saw this post highlighted on Pink Saturday. (I used to write at Magnolia Cottage.) I can certainly see why this post was the first one to catch Beverly's eye. It really is absolutely stunning.

Happy weekend,
