The trouble with leaving for a trip in early October is that I'm just not ready to go full-fall in the decor line. But when I return the leaves will have disappeared from the trees and it wouldn't surprise me if we had an early snow within a week or two of getting home. Or it could be 60. You never know.
But I didn't want to leave a summer house for my wonderful house sitter, Jan. Nor did I want to return to lavender hydrangeas and summery stuff myself -- especially with an art show coming two weeks after I return and Thanksgiving shortly after that.
So, a little bit of fall in the house. Not a lot. Nothing new (unless I bring it home with me). Lots of wreaths, on china cabinet doors...
...and other places. (And I bet you've seen all of these before, if you've been with me quite awhile!) The post showing our day at Southern Exposure when I made the arrangement below is HERE. Definitely worth a visit if you are craving beautiful fall color at my favorite place in the world! At least Michigan. Maybe the world!
My massage therapist, the Divine Sarah, gave me free-range hydrangea cutting, so some dried hydrangeas are flanking the Greeting Angel.
Hydrangeas from my more sparse bush are on the table. (I actually filled up that dead-spot in the middle after I took the pic!)
I pulled out my copper for the mantle.
And moved the cotton over there, too.
I did pull a few pumpkins out, mostly so Jan could enjoy them. I'll probably put them away the more Halloweenie ones right after the holiday. Maybe I'll show you those a little closer to the season! Apart from a few smalls here and there, I think this will have to do for now.
...she says today.

Oh Jeanie, I've been looking for a copper tea pot just like that, I love it! How charming it looks on your mantel. The copper ones I've seen are so new looking, and I want one that looks a bit more antique copper. Your home looks nice decorated with a few Fall lovelies, and the cotton adds a special touch. I like that red bowl on the table. I have already decorated too, but don't have too many Fall things - just a few pumpkins and an Autumn fairy. Would it really snow in your area this early in the season?
~Sheri
Wonderful autumn decorations. I need to start gathering mine together. Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
Your house looks so inviting. I have been putting up fall things, photographing them and then packing them. The move is the end of October and by then all of Fall will be packed away for next year. I am looking forward to unpacking at the new place.
beautiful photos.
lovely decoration.
have a great fall
I love the decorations...fall is so NICE...love the colors. But, as of yet, I have not put mine up. Oops...better get on it or it will be Halloween before I get the fall up. Everythings looks so pretty.
Really important decisions to be sure..........
It's all beautiful, but I think the mantel is my favorite. Here I was all proud of myself for putting the garden flag back out on Tuesday (hubby took it down in anticipation of the wind we were supposed to get from Florence). How do you keep Lizzie from eating the hydrangeas?
You are way ahead of me, Jeanie. But, by the time you get home I will have caught up with you---I hope!
Enjoy your decor until you leave! Have a wonderful Thursday- xo Diana
I absolutely love your copper pieces on the mantle! And thanks for reminding my I have hydrangeas I should be cutting.
Have a wonderful trip. By the time you get home I might forgive you for using the 's' word so early in the fall. I don't want to think about snow until Thanksgiving.
You've decorated well!
I love when everyone starts posting photos of home decorating for fall. Your photos inspire me to get going on that project.
looks very festive! Some times I want to decorate for Halloween right after my birthday in mid-September, but mostly I wait until the weekend before 10/1. :) But it makes lots of sense why you are starting now.
It all looks comfortably wonderful!
Jeanie, I love your kettles. I always like dried hydrangeas. Love the cotton bowls and the bittersweet. Hope you are enjoying your time. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
It's sometimes difficult to decorate for a season that isn't here quite yet. I think you did a marvelous job, though. Not too much, not too little. Just right.
I still refuse ;-)
Oh, how can summer end??? Nonono!
Signs got popular here this year and I did buy "SPRING" and "SUMMER" - but that´s it!
77F today, maybe rainy.
But I like the idea to do it for Jan a lot!
Your fall is warm and inviting and you will be so happy you did it when you come home!Aww..closing up the lake house😔Thank goodness it waits for you every yr☺️☺️👍🏻
*BIG SWOON*... LOVE, love, love all your autumn decorating and seasonal touches, Jeanie! You are a queen of decorating! All sooo cozy and inviting... Oh, that copper teapot! The white jug with the cotton plant sprig is fun--almost like autumn meets winter...the cotton almost a bit like mini snowballs! :) Your friend Jan is lucky to stay amongst such beauty! Happy Atumn Days, my friend :))) ((HUGS))
Time to get cozy! I haven't done a single thing, but maybe this weekend. I love your copper pieces. -Jenn
It's lovely; but I am so not ready to think about fall.
I enjoyed seeing all your pretty autumn touches. I'm ready for cooler weather! I love all your copper pieces on the mantel. I would love to find a copper teapot like yours!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Jeanie, you have the perfect early autumn decor and beautiful vignettes for your house sitter to enjoy while you are away. Thanks for putting me in the autumn spirit!
Jeanie, such pretty fall touches around your home. Like you, when I leave for a trip I think of the return home and try to plan ahead. You did a great job jumping right into fall after returning from the cabin. Our high was 95 yesterday, hard for me to get into the fall mood.
Love the wonderful Autumn decorations, the copper pots, the cotton plant, the dry hydrangeas... your house is looking beautiful.
Have a lovely weekend Jeanie.
Hello, your fall decorations are pretty. I like the wreath and hydrangeas.
Your place must look cozy and inviting too. I would be excited about the trip! Happy Friday, enjoy your day and weekend!
Your tiny bit is perfect! That's all I have too until October 1....then I will be more in the mood to decorate.
Jeanie, It's perfect ! Like you , we are leaving soon for a trip, but I also didn't want to leave our house sitter with summer things, nor did I want to come home to anything less than fall. Your hydrangeas look wonderful, and are just the beautiful pop of nature every room needs. I cut our own from my Annabelle and they are on the mantel.
Hope your trip is lovely, and that fall is in gorgeous full swing when you return! xo Lidy
Just enough - perfect! Happy fall!
I like what you've done with the Fall decoration. You are going to be one busy lady with the trip and then the art show, Thanksgiving and Christmas when you get home. Americans always amaze me because so many of you decorate for the seasons. We don't tend to do that here in Canada. Mostly our decorating is done for the various holidays. Personally it's all I can cope with, lol and I only put up a few now for Christmas :-) I absolutely love your copper pots. I love all things metallic.
Hi Jeanie! Your home looks warm and wonderful! Everything is so shiny. Good job cleaning!
I'm thinking like you, even though I will be home all fall. It is time to start putting out a few fall decorations and pull out a the fall baking pans I have. Your house looks lovely. I bet you must be excited yo leave! Hugs-Erika
Just right! Love the little touches. I have pared back considerably and feel less overwhelmed with the decorating. We are leaving on vacation next weekend as well and I too wanted to come home and see things 'prettied' up a bit since I'm always sad to return home to the cooler days and fall lol!
It looks beautiful, I love it! that teakettle is very very pretty! I think you put up enough to definetly welcome Fall and look warm and seasonal. It's so hard to believe the seasons are changing, with it still being summer weather down here in Charleston, LOL
Looking fab Jeanie, fancy coming over to do my place too!!

Ahhhh. I love your choices
and have hydrangea blossoms drying in some of my vases as well.
So welcome in September.
Excited for you and your trip; will so very much enjoy
the view through your lens as you go exploring:)
Thanks for sharing, beautiful you.

Love the copper mantle look . . .
Fall is in the air for sure . . . leaves and acorns are falling!
A chilly 44 earlier this morning.
Enjoy the trip “getting ready” . . . sometimes I find the planning, anticipation,
getting ready for a trip is just as exciting as the actual trip.
Oh, I know, not the same as the actual but the excitement before is bubbly too!
Back to the copper . . . I remember a small copper pot that I found at a shop one day.
Wish I still had it . . . paid very little for it . . . went to one of my giveaway places one day.
I regret . . .
It's just so hard to think about fall quite yet when it's still so hot and humid. Even our fall flowers haven't appeared, despite the calendar saying September. But if it were fall, your decorations certainly would evoke it well! Like others, I find the copper absolutely charming.
I love your Fall decor soooo much; but I am swooning over that copper tea kettle. How thoughtful to decorate for your housesitter. Like you, I wouldn't want to come home to summer decorations either. Good job! Oh my! holidays will be here before we know it.
I always love your seasonal decor! It’s feeling very fall like here after a really warm first half of September. I’m ready for a new season so I am loving it. I don’t have any fall decor but I think when Paul gets older I will put more effort into seasonal decorating!!
I hope your foot is getting better every week so you can fully enjoy your trip!!!
It's very pretty Jeanie. The copper is just perfect for fall! Love the Hydrangeas too. Have a fun trip and thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
I think Autumn is my favorite season right now. I don't know how it's possible it has changed during the last few years... But I prefer this colorful scenery, I love to take some short walks to the forest...
Last year's fall decor had lovely elements! Will you be decorating the same this year? Thank you for sharing on Tuesday Turn About! We are blessed to have you!
