Art Camp 2014 and Beyond

Every summer my friend Kate and I head to the lake with a car packed full of supplies. (To be honest, my mixed media crap takes up a LOT more room than her paints, light table and papers!) We started off our visit with a stop at Cops and Doughnuts, a bakery half-way to the lake, to stock up on provisions.

We spend several days working on various projects. In Kate's case, it was painting birds for her 2015 calendar.

For me, more mini-canvases, journals and working on a swap.

There were plenty of bins of washi tape, ribbons, paint palettes and paint to go around!

We also managed a day of gelli-printing! The kitchen counter has never seen such color!

Of course, all work and no play makes Kate and Jeanie dull girls so we headed off to the farmer's market. Remember this little girl from the last post? She was full of it! I hope her mom has the Magic Eraser because of all those little fingers get cherry juice all over her house, it could be trouble!

This corn guy was the best salesman at the market (and the corn was good too!). The tomatoes were fabulous.

Evenings were mellow. Easy dinners (gazpacho, corn, cheese, salads) and when we saw the heron, it was bonus points!

I couldn't stop taking photos. This one is manipulated with color, but I couldn't resist!

All good things come to an end. On a lovely final evening, we watched the sunset and enjoyed the passing boats.

Meanwhile, it's time to finish what I started... but more on that later!

Oh, I love this concept of art camp! What a fun tradition to start. And what a beautiful setting for art camp. The pictures you shared are beautiful and I love the one where you manipulated the colors! The farmer's market pics are great, too, and have me craving some fresh corn and tomatoes. I have barely been to the farmer's market this summer but am hoping to hit it up the next couple of weekends!

In your last photo, what's that in the bottom right corner? It looks like a pile of rocks with a cormorant drying its wings, or a cleat for a little boat to tie up to. Maybe it's not even rocks.

What a fun time you had. It's always great to get another peek into your process.

How fun this was, since I was from Lansing and Mason in my childhood years, and lived in Saginaw and Bay City during my first marriage, it was a treat seeing your photos. I wish I'd known about that bakery then!

What a wonderful way to spend an end-or-summer weekend. Isn't it great to have a playmate, even when we're grownups?

Good evening Jeanie! I started school last week, but summer still carries on thanks to all of you. What a great time you must have had! And to take a friend along to the lake, how I wish I could do that, or meet up with a friend to write or make art. But God-willing, next summer.

Enjoy a dreamy and lovely evening! Anita

My first laugh of the day was the photo of Cops & Doughnuts! Perfect name!
And what a perfect way to spend a few days...being with a friend and making art. I like your little canvases, and drooled over your great supply of washi tapes.
