Postcards from the Lake: Keeping Creative!

Up-North is my creative place. It's easier for me to write, to paint, to do just about anything.  This summer has been no exception. Someone told me when I posted the photo of the house from Martha's Vineyard, I should show a little more of my art. Be careful what you ask for!

As you might guess, Lizzie is one of my favorite subjects!

Some work out better than others.

Below is my friend Kate's cat Zeke. Earlier I showed you this one... it has a wonky eye. This was my re-do. And it's still not right. I'll be doing this one again.

This pink poppy was from a photo I took in Giverny.

This summer butterfly was from a photo taken last summer. I confess, the sunflower isn't the best.

Last year I did a birthday card for Rick similar to this one, which is for a friend who lives and cycles in Colorado.

Birds? Sure! Gotta love the chickadee!

As I've been remembering Paris for the Paris in July series, I thought I'd do one of  the view from my friend Jerry's old apartment. (We both still wish he lived there!)

And finally, another Paris shot -- the cafe where Rick and I enjoyed a delightful meal out in Paris. I'm not totally happy with this one... but it does have the feel.

Oops. I need to put in the name of the cafe! Ah well, c'est la vie!

Gorgeous colors! And I really like your use of line (especially in the butterfly and the view from your friend Jerry's apartment). These are a great treat -- looking forward to seeing more. Looks like the lake is good for your spirit...

Lovely, Jeanie! Did you take lessons in watercolour? Or are you self-taught? I've never tried, but my sister is incredibly talented and has used many mediums. -Jenn

I love your art! It appears so "light", so easy, as if just thrown in, but with exact beauty.
The glasses, the bottle, the way you present the hair, the architecture, nature, Lizzie, of course.
Oh, I´d start at zero again.
Thank you for showing yours!

Hello Jeanie,

You are talented. I love Lizzie, the poppy, the flower with the butterfly and the chickadee! Beautiful Paris scenes and the cyclist is great. They are all beautiful, very creative. Have a great day!

You are nothing if not prolific, Jeanie. As you might imagine I choose the chickadee as my favourite, but your impressions of Paris have a very Parisian kind of touch to them. As this pandemic continues to drag on, I am starting to wonde if we will ever see Paris again.

I finally got back online late last night and was treated to these incredible works of art this morning. I love them all, but the Paris scene and the cats are my favorites.

God loves you. He has given you many gifts: beauty, intelligence, kindness and creativity.
I love all your pictures; my favorite, however, is the bicycle rider.
Keep up the creative work!

Your watercolor technique is really impressive! You exploit the “water”look for such transparent effects. shows a steady hand.

Such fun paintings Jeanie. Do you think you are more productive because you are away and feel less tied to a calendar? I enjoyed seeing your art. Hugs-Erika

Jeanie, I love your art. The one of dear Lizzie with her head tilted is adorable. And Zeke appears to have such a sweet personality. The chickadee is perfect and the Paris apartment view certainly invites me to visit.

Happy day to you, I hope it is cool at the lake. Enjoy!

I love your watercolors, especially the Paris ones (by the way, your link from Tamara's post links to your post about seagulls at the lake, but not a Paris in July post). The poppy is spectacular, it looks like a "Lauren's grape".

What a treat to see a round up of your paintings Jeanie! You capture Lizzy beautifully! I especially love the butterfly one too, and the Paris window. I want to draw and paint more cityscapes and cafes, I love the challenge of breaking down a complex scene into a paintable version...you have inspired me to get back to it! 🎨😘
