In the last post I hopefully pointed to signs of spring -- melted snow, being the biggie. Well, I knew it would be back, and it was. Not a lot, so I'm not really complaining. I've seen what those in the East are going through. At least the sun has been out (sometimes!) so that's a plus. (And let's be honest -- since I started this post, it has pretty much melted again -- at this moment, it is 54, light snow predicted for today! February and March are always so erratic!)
Rick is on his way to Florida to see his dad and friends over the next couple of weeks but last week he participated in a fundraiser his bike club holds for an area organization whose mission is to guide and support families who face homelessness on their paths to stable homes.
Back when I was chairing our TV station's food bank drive, we always took our load of food (and it was a lot!) to Haven House. It's been here a long while, doing good work. I think their group was able to donate over $2,000.
When you can't have spring outside, find a way to bring it in! I loved these white tulips from Trader Joe.
It's fun following their life stage -- first beginning to open a bit.
Then getting to that slightly floppy stage with big, huge beautiful blooms that almost look like a camellia or some other flower!
And then, you look inside!
And I smile when I see the dried roses Rick gave me after I was allowed to drive again late last year! They make me smile, too!
Perhaps the best tonic this week was some lovely "friend time." I had the most delightful tea at fellow blogger Maya's home this week. It's such a beautiful spot, filled with color and wonderful plants. A perfect haven on a "white weather" day (no snow coming but a sky so pale gray that it looks white.) I wish I had taken a picture of this wonderful space! (But Maya took one of me with her two adorable dogs!) It is so nice to have a blogger friend who lives in your own town! Finally, thank you for so many good thoughts about my recent health escapades. I know many of you have experienced the same frustrations -- maybe with different body parts, but still that sense of frustration and depression that comes with not feeling like who you know you are. It's just my turn and I'm working through things one day at a time, doing my best to keep up my joy (which can vary, depending on the day!) Anyway, thanks for that. I appreciate your support, more than you know! And this is the supportive home team! This pic is an oldie but it says it all!
And yes, there really are signs of spring.
They may only be a half inch tall, but these mini-daffs are intrepid!

I see that particularly next week will see above freezing temperatures during the day but freezing at night. So, the sap run begins as this is the precut kind of weather.
Those bodily ailments. My friend texted this morning that he will be off to look for the right kind of ball for his back exercises. Meanwhile, I actually have the hammer out for my wrist strengthening exercises. It substitutes for a 2 or 3 pound weight if we don’t happen to have one.
Tulips and daffodils are my favorite flowers to brighten your spirits this time of year. Pretty soon the snow will be gone and you will have lovely weather to enjoy. Karen (Back Road Journal)
I love the half inch of spring- encouraging ,tiny green babies even though it is possible that they be covered in snow again and for a long time. Spring is a surprise every year. Sometimes I describe certain people as "Spring". If you catch my drift...
We are having a few days of sunshine but no warmth with the cold ocean wind. Then next week buckets of rain. I have flowers blooming and our grass needs to be mowed. LOL It's nice to have flowers inside to make the days feel brighter. Nice photos on the life span of the tulips. Good for Rick and the others to help with the food banks. Ours is over run with families and elderly that need help. You know that I have you on my list of friends that get a healing candle lit and healing energy sent your way everyday. I do know how our bodies can just not cooperate with how we feel in our brains. It is one day at a time. Healing ourselves with positive thoughts and positive things that we do. I already know you do this. Laughing is the most healing a person can do for themselves. Oh and don't forget art. LOL That helps me the most. Well my dear friend have the best day ever. i agree about fresh flowers...they really make the house feel like spring, like home!! if you stick a straight pin into a tulip stem, just slightly below the flower, they will stand at attention and not droop over. it is nice to have a blogger, in real life too!! i will go over for a visit!!
You definitely have a lot more signs of spring that at my house. Even your tulips. I bought a pot of the tulips bulbs at Costco last weekend, and the leaves are long but not buds yet. It so wonderful o have them in the house, isn't it? And I like watching them go through their blooms too. I think they are even pretty once they start to fall apart. I hope Rick has a safe trip to Florida and that you have some good things on your agenda. I loved the photo of you and the pups. Maya's house looks so bright and cheery. I think I need more color in my house, but I'm not sure I know exactly how to do that. I hope your spring comes soon, and if it does, send some my way please. :) hugs-Erika
I'm sure as the weather warms and plants continue bursting into life, your health concerns will wane too. Such things weigh more heavily in the depths of winter. I love the white tulips when they enter their fully open, camellia-like stage!

I wish i could spend a few weeks in Florida. WE needs more days in the 50's to melt the snow on our fire roads. It is great of Rick to participate in the fundraiser, a good organization. Spring might be slow to arrive, but there are little joys along the way. Snow melts and returns, but the sun peeks through, white tulips bloom indoors, and dried roses still bring a smile. Rick’s fundraiser for families facing homelessness was heartwarming, and time spent with blogger friends over tea was the perfect lift. Even tiny daffodils pushing up through the soil remind us that spring is quietly on its way.
March is a very changeable month, weatherwise, but at least the days are moving towards full spring. I hope Rick enjoys his trip to Florida.

As you eagerly await spring it is the official first day of autumn here - a bit bleak at my parents place. I do love your flowers in all stages and yaaaay - so many daffodils in stages on my feed today.
This time of year there is nothing quite like a bunch of daffodils or tulips in a vase to bring some cheer.
Spending time with friends is always fun.

I’m very lucky to live in a place where winters don’t get very cold and it doesn’t snow. I spent a good bit of my life in areas that had snowy winters, so I completely understand though! Flowers make such a difference - inside or out. I love the picture of Rick and Lizzie!
Oh Yes, I don't count the days until Spring this early because we sometimes have snow in March and April. Your tulips from Trader Joe's are so pretty, and I don't think I've seen tulips that widely open before. It's wonderful of Rick to participate in the fundraiser for helping out the homeless to find good homes. I worked with the homeless many years ago, and it was one of the most special times in my life. I hope you are feeling much better. And I wish you wonderful days in March, Jeanie.

Hi Jeanie, first off, I want to say I empathize with you on dealing with your health issues. It's no fun waiting for procedures and results and trying to stay positive and strong through it all. But it is so good that you are being proactive and following Doctor's orders and have a good support system with Rick and your friends to help you along.

It's wonderful that Rick devotes his time to this worthy charity and that you also have been involved with helping, too. Love that.

The daffs are blooming here. Snowdrops started in January. On we go into March--I can't believe how the year is flying by!
The winter is lingering on also here in the south of Sweden. We have had snow for over a month, which is very unusual. Today the sun is shining and that is a treat. I love tulips and your are of a very fine variety, so beautiful. Enjoy the signs of spring.
Be patient. Spring will come. In the meantime there is much to enjoy about winter outdoors - but I suspect you have a hard time believing that!

You are a bit ahead of us, spring-wise. There is not a sign of spring in the air, or ground, here yet.....but I'm hoping! I visited your friend Maya's blog but there is no way to sign up to follow that I could see. She sounds like a lovely person.
Day by day with health issues, Jeanie. It has taken me a year to start feeling like "me" yet. Some days are better than others but I refuse to give up, or give in, to things I feel like I can push through. You can get through it-I know you can!
I so wish we had a Trader Joe's here!!!! My daughter used to live about 15 blocks from one in Milwaukee and it was one of my highlights of visiting her to sweep through the store.

Why is it, when you want snow, it never comes. I just looked at our 10 day forecast and, no sign of snow at all.

I haven't seen our grass in weeks.. by the time our first snow started melting we got dumped on again. But our weather has been milder this past week and the snow is melting faster.
I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's for their flowers and plants. They are so reasonably priced and very healthy! I'm stopping there tomorrow in fact. Hope I can bring a little bit of Spring home! Hoping you continue to conquer your health challenges!

I think the older we get the more impatient we get seeing spring again. Thankfully I don't have to wait as long as you do (we saw a lot of trees in bloom on our walk today), but I do get impatient. I love to see the garden waking up, even though it never is completely asleep in the winter. And I have been weeding for weeks now! The birds certainly have spring feelings, the show in my garden is R rated!

Tulips just don't grow well here, but someone I know has a bed filled with them. Some already are in bloom, and when I see them today (they're in a spot where I'm working) I'm going to be interested to see if some other colors have emerged. At this point, they're all white, although they aren't the fancy sort that you brought home. Those are gorgeous!
I was so busy this past week I've forgotten what the weather even was, other than last Sunday when my sister & I drove back early morning to beat a snow that came that day/night. Alas, spring is still coming, yay! And so will better health days. Jeanie, I love your positive attitude and comments about working through the struggles.

There's nothing like fresh flowers to bring spring into the house!
How nice to see daffodils poking through the ground! That feels far off for us here in Minnesota. It's been cold lately and it feels extra cold after a few days in the 50s. I'm ready for real spring to be here but it's probably a few months ago. It was Paul's bday yesterday and we reminisced about how much snow we got in March/April of his birth year. We had several huge snow storms. So I am keeping that mind when I dream about spring... I'll be in Atlanta later this month, though, so I should get a little bit of spring weather there.
I'm so glad I brought you and Maya together! She's such a dear person and her home is so beautiful!
It's nice to see the daffys and Tulips starting to make an appearance..I bought some Pansies last week..They may be able to be outside after this week..It's supposed to be 70 next Saturday..It's a start!!

A blogger in Canada mentioned that over in Ottawa, it’s warm one day and cold the next. It’s pretty consistent here. Either warm during summer and chilly during winter. However, our chilly is warm to you guys. Haha.

Our azaleas started to bloom in late February, and that's always our first sign that spring is coming. Our pecan trees are last to bud out, and they are still a ways from doing that! Enjoy this spring!

Well done to Rick and his bike club for supporting a good cause that really needs help. I hope the weather is kind when Rick visits his family. Your tulips are beautiful and to see flowers pushing their way through the earth is an encouraging sign that Spring weather is on it's way, We are well in front with our Spring weather, our daffs have been in flower for weeks now. We don't get snow where I live in northern Portugal , but in the center
of Portugal in the mountains it does snow, and there is even a ski lodge where many people enjoy the sport. It's nice that you have a fellow blogger and friend living in your home town and you had a lovely day spent together. I will visit her shortly.

Tired of the cold and snow!
It's impressive that Rick's group raised so much money. It's always uplifting to read about anyone doing good in the world, especially lately.
I'm with you on being ready for the winter weather to be finished. We've also had very erratic weather. We had to run the air conditioner on Sunday, and then had snow on Monday night.
Your tulips are beautiful! I'm always impressed that Lizzie lets you have fresh flowers like that. Our cats are terrible about messing with any flowers/plants, so I've just given up on having anything inside.
