At Home: One Last Post Before Back to England!

Just a few good things before I return to the last of England posts.

Blogger Lisa was coming to Detroit for a business trip and she took the afternoon to drive up to East Lansing where I was lucky to meet TWO bloggers for the first time -- Lisa and blogger Maya (who lives here!)

We had the most wonderful afternoon, first walking around the Michigan State campus. Alas, the museum was closed, but maybe that was a good thing because it was far too beautiful to be inside!

We walked by Beaumont Tower, where lots of students were taking photos, posing in their graduation robes.

Then to Beal Garden with its lovely pond.

It was there that I spotted this dog, leash attached but not connected to anything. He sat stoically beside a tree, not moving a muscle! (From a distance, at first I thought it was a squirrel. There are advantages to a Zoom lens!)

After, Maya had us to her lovely home and made the most marvelous dinner. It was filled with color and flavor and so beautifully served! I think we could have sat and talked for hours, but Lisa had to get back to prepare for her meeting in Detroit the next day. It was wonderful in every way -- and now I have a new blog friend right in my own town! So a double treat!

I had a sleep study, too. Apparently, my lungs kept collapsing during my bronchoscopy a few weeks ago, so they wanted to check to see if a CPAP machine would help (I still don't know, but the tech didn't think so). Let me just say that these things are weird. You go to this room that is like a hotel room with a TV but no charm, no ambience.  (And you can bring your own pillow but not your own cat.)

First, you are wired up with all sorts of electrodes on your legs, chest, head and hair. (I have NEVER been so happy to wash my hair after!)

Then you are  expected to sleep. Which I didn't for the first three hours. But I was able to sleep for the second half and they said I did well, and didn't appear to qualify for the CPAP part of the test, so now it's just a matter of waiting for the doc to review it all.

I thought I'd throw a quick walk to the Ditch here, too. Mother Goose is still sitting.

Down on the next pond you can see another goose feathering her nest.

And I saw the first Green Heron I've ever seen there. (Alas, Harry and I appear to be visiting at different times of day!)

If you look carefully here, you can see them both -- the heron in the water, the goose to the right, farther back.

Finally, to end on a  good news note, I got the results from my thyroid biopsy.

"Benign" is a wonderful word!

Benign is the best word in the language! Such a relief. That sounds like fun, meeting other blogger folk.

It was so wonderful to spend time with you this week! No one who observed our conversation would have thought we were meeting in person for the first time! And Maya was such an amazing host!! It was such a wonderful afternoon.

No wonder you struggled to sleep with all those wires and such! Several people in my family have a CPAP (dad, older brother, older sister). It’s something I hope to avoid as I have enough trouble in the sleep department as is!

We haven’t seen our heron yet this season. We keep hoping to see him. The boys also call him Harry!!

It was such a treat to meet you in person, Jeanie! And even with wires sticking out of you, you look so lovely :)!!

I agree that "benign" is the best word in the language! So glad! You must be happy to get that out of the way! It's fabulous to have another blog friend so close, and how nice to meet yet another too! The university campus always looks lovely, and great that you were be able to stay out in theh sun - personally I think that after your long dark winter you will need as much bright light as you can get for a while!

The face tape is hilarious. In a good way. 😊 Hope you get it all figured out.

Beautiful daffodils!

Oh, that is a great result, and I enjoyed your pics, the last two especially. I have met with a couple of bloggers, one evidentially as I was recognized. Actually, I Mary G and I have met accidentally twice and once by design. We’ve had various visits with Lorna, who no longer blogs.

You look suitably high tech, I must say! Great to meet up with fellow bloggers. I have so far only met them on their turf, but that will change in September.

Benign! Wonderful news!
It is nice you met a fellow blogger. Great pictures. Your sleep test outfit has charm.

Pretty photo of the lamppost and blossoms.
Lovely photos of you and your blogger friends, sounds like a great time. I can not imagine sleeping with all wires and gadgets on and around you. Love the geese and the green heron is a great bird. Take care, have a wonderful weekend.

It's always good to meet up with other bloggers and I'm surprised you could get any sleep with all those wires and tape, looks like something out of a horror film! Not you - just the wires!!

Linda Sue said...

Sleep study is bizarre - Impossible to sleep or so it would seem , yet they are able to collect enough data to say' "Go home , you're fine". Lucky you- Cpap machines are agodsend but they are pricey and a bit cumbersome.
What a lucky sunny day with blogger pals! One of the perks of blogland!

Jeanie, first off, I'm so sorry to see you hooked up to all those wires, how awful. I do hope all goes well with that. Good news on your thyroid. It's so nice that you met a couple blog friends. I've only met one who lived in my hometown, and she owned a vintage shop that I used to visit. Also, I have a blog friend that just lives an hour away that I've yet to meet. I love it when she shares places she visits, as we're in the same area. So nice that your blog friend had you over for dinner, and that she lives near you. Oh, I love your Ditch pictures, Jeanie. That photo with the dark pink blossom tree settling in the woods is so pretty. And those yellow flowers blossoming! I hope you share with us some HOME posts in between the England ones. They are so charming, Jeanie.

Awww. Lisa is one of my favourite people so it delighted me to know she was getting to meet with some bloggers (and a reader) this week. I will admit I'm jealous, but I know we'll manage to coordinate a blogging meetup in Canada eventually.

You cracked me up when you wrote, that bringing a pillow is okay, just not okay to bring a cat. Glad you got to meet your buddies. Cool beaners.

You're all wired up and connected. :) It's nice meeting some fellow bloggers. Nice to see the Ditch once again.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day meeting fellow bloggers and making a new local friend, and I’m glad the sleep study went smoothly despite the less-than-cozy setting — hopefully, the results will bring some helpful answers soon.

Good news is good! And also good that you don’t need the machine to keep you from sleeping.

It's always fun to meet people, and even more exciting to meet them in person. And hurrah for the good news on your biopsy, and I'll keep my fingers crossed you don't need a CPAP machine. My husband has one and it took him a bit to get used to. That's a great photo of you all taped up- although maybe not one you want to put on your mantle. Have a lovely rest of your weekend. hugs-Erika

I had to be with my husband when he had a sleep study done because he couldn't talk. After seeing all those things attached to him I don't see how anyone could sleep under those conditions. He did but now my doctor wants me to take one but, I refuse because I'm sure it would be a waste of money.

Have fun in England!!! Love that you met fellow bloggers in real life.

How nice to meet two bloggers and to have such a spectacular day to enjoy. I'm glad to hear you don't seem to need a CPAP. I had a sleep study many years ago and I didn't sleep a wink. But I now use a CPAP. It doesn't make for a cute night time look, lol. Enjoy your weekend Jeanie.

oh what fun to actually spend real life time with blogging friends! i think i've only met 1 in all these years of writing online. what a joyful, interesting gathering that must have been, friend ...

"Benign" is indeed a wonderful word - soglad for you.
The sleep study looks very interesting. Were you able to sleep on your side or only on the back? I would have difficulties only sleeping on the back and I'm sure I snore!
It's downright wonderful to meet other bloggers. I've met a few and it always was truly nice. Maybe one day I make it to Michigan again (the first time I was there was before blogging) and we can meet as well.

I can't imagine trying to sleep with that stuff stuck all over you. Glad you went and did it, though.
Always enjoy seeing the activities at The Ditch. :) :)

My husband had to do a sleep study a few years ago and then got a bi-pap machine. It's official, my granddaughter will be a Spartan this Fall. She chose that college. How fun to meet some bloggers. I have met a few of mine as well. It was so nice to meet them. Janice

Benign is indeed a very good word. I am suppose to schedule a sleep study too. Interesting to see you all wired up. I was wondering what it all looked like. Yes, your ditch does look like the one near my now. I will think of you whenever I visit my new "ditch".

What a great get together with other bloggers! It looks like you had a wonderful meet up. I’ve heard of sleep studies, but I never knew what was involved. Thanks for educating us all. You have so much interesting wild life around you. I’m looking forward to reading about more of your trip!

You saved the best 'til last -- I'm so glad to see that word 'benign' pop up. That has to be a great relief. Between that and all the signs of spring beginning to pop up, I can well imagine you're feeling ever so much better. Now, tell your lungs to behave!

I can tell you’re a wonderful tour guide for blog friends. And your spring flowers in full bloom already? We are still brown but I’ve a surprise encounter during my first spring birding. And all the best with your sleep issue. Do u need to use a C PAC machine? That’s very common now.

Yay for the thyroid news! So glad you got to meet more fellow bloggers! My friend David had that sleep test years ago and when I saw his pictures, I wondered how on Earth anyone was supposed to sleep all wired up like that. But like you, he did! (And like you, didn't need CPAP.)

I have always loved meeting other bloggers - I hope we meet too some day! I have rejoiced at that word for my thyroid too. It's amazing what these sleep studies are like these days!! You did well falling asleep at all!!

Carol said...

Great news on your thyroid biopsy! I’ve been reading your posts, I just haven’t responded in a while. Seeing the photos of you regarding your sleep study reminds me of Monday morning. I go into the hospital for my EEG. I’ll have wires all over my head. I’ll try to take a photo of me. I’ll be there for 2-4 days. Wish me luck! BTW, I love your spring photos!

David underwent a sleep test. The neurologist said Dave has mild sleep apnea, but it is his foot twitching which wakes up his brain. So, he prescribed pramafixole for restless leg syndrome. He still wakes up to urinate so it's rare to sleep through the night.

Rita C at Panoply said...

So glad to read your biopsy was benign, Jeanie, but that sleep study contraption looks like something from the 60s, ridiculously archaic. I know it's not, but still....
Happy meeting not one, but two bloggers!

Benign is indeed a lovely lovely word -- glad to hear it. And glad to hear about your meeting with Maya and Lisa -- it sounds like a great day. Sleep study? Hmmm. Hard to see how anyone could sleep in a getup like that, especially without a cat. M. spent the weekend also wired up, and he was very very glad to return home.

Hello Jeanie :)
I'm trying to catch up after a short blog break, but as I came to you first it is fabulous news that benign was the test result. I am so happy for you Jeanie. Must have been great meeting up with fellow bloggers. You certainly look very happy in your photos. Nice to see the ditch again!
All the best

Benign, yay!!! That is excellent news. I think you might be glad not to have to have the cpap machine too, they seem to be cumbersome and noisy from what I have heard.
Love that you met two other bloggers! Now I must check out their blogs.

It's wonderful that you were able to meet some blog friends. I've met many blog friends in Norway myself and have even had visitors here at home.
So, I'll check out the blogs... the cables on your head look funny, a bit like something from a science fiction movie! Yes. I hope everything's okay, I wish you the best.
Best wishes from Viola and a hug for you.

Thank you for linking up and sharing your critter post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

What a wonderful day visiting with two blog friends!!! I often think if I ever get up your way, I'd like to visit you and take a walk around this pond... It is sooo relaxing to see who is nesting, what wildlife is around. And isn't it fun to snap photos of ourselves wired up, or wearing eye patches or stitches (in my case, both times)? It's real life and I think that's what draws us all closer, even if we have never met in person. I'm really glad that your thyroid test came back negative, hallelujah!!! I hope the breathing thing gets easier on its own as you continue feeling better. Stinks feeling ill... I haven't seen a goose's nest before but now I understand that phrase about "feathering one's nest." <3 The geese around here are out during the day but must hide in the woods or near real ponds to nest.

Enjoy your feathered friends and squirrel babies,
Hugs,
Barb :)
