Postcards from the Lake: A Colorful World

The thing I most look forward to in autumn is the arrival of the colors on our trees. Usually that kicks in around the first of October, but this year it was early.

Coming from the south of the state, the heart beats a little faster when we hit the northern counties and the colors get brighter.

It's difficult to keep your eyes on the road!

The color makes for beautiful walks as well.

This patch of sumac is particularly lovely.

At least, I think it's sumac!

And if one has something rather hideous like a boat lifting system to hide for the season, why not dress it up?

I think these people have a sense of humor and style!

Every day is more and more beautiful. Of course, the woods isn't the only colorful venue. This is the view when I look across the lake in the morning.

I never get tired of seeing these colors!

They get more brilliant with every passing day.

The leaves are beginning to fall. Birch leaves are beginning to land on the beach.

And maple leaves float gently in the water, drifting lazily along the shoreline.

More than a few have fallen on the sand.

The color is inside, too. You find it in the pumpkins...

...and in the last of sunflowers.

As the sun begins to set, another burst of colors kicks in. Whether it's a sunset from afar...

...or the play of color on the water...

...it's clear that when it comes to creating a palette, nature wins, hands down!

Hello Jeanie,

WOW, the trees and colors are just stunning. Your fall colors are much further along than what we see here. It would be hard concentrating on the road, the colors are beautiful. Cute Autumn decorations. Your view at the lake is gorgeous, love the sunset and the sunflowers. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great week ahead.

I am grateful that you featured sumac, Jeanie, my absolute favourite fall leaf, and one if my favourite plants of all in fact. The sumacs here are crimson now and they are ready to provide winter food for a whole range if animals.

Absolutely gorgeous - the scenes just make my heart sing. If only it would stay fall for as long as it stays winter! Yes, that is sumac and I love how it turns that beautiful crimson colour. -Jenn

Utterly gorgeous. It reminds me, fondly, of the drive I took on so many Autumn weekends between Virginia Beach and Colonial Williamsburg. As you say, hard to keep eyes on the road!

This is hard to believe. We're still in a mostly-green world, and even when color appears, it's nothing like this.I must say, nothing stirs my want-to-travel juices more than photos of autumn color. Maybe if I get my current jobs finished by mid-October, I could manage at least a peek or two farther north. Of course, the maps are showing our "color" peaking in late October, so I have a full month to get busy. Thank goodness the heat has broken -- it's sunny and sixty this morning!

So pretty! The middle of the state usually turns earlier than the outer regions lying next to the water. We are seeing some color but it’s hit and miss at this point. I expect that in the next two weeks we’ll see all of the glory here! You captured some beautiful images!

All of your photos are gorgeous! I especially love the all the pretty fall trees. I really need to make a trip to see that one of these days. I can understand why you would never get tired of seeing it - it's magical!

Fall colors are a constant topic in famous songs. I know people who have a Fall playlist for their road trips, both vocal and instrumental selections.

I do get so anxious when I see all the glorious colors from up north while it's still hot and steamy here. September is usually hot and dry and sometimes well in October. Usually it is in November before we see your color. We did get a bit of a front to come through last night so it was cool this morning but the heat will return. So nice you can enjoy the autumn season at the lake. I know the color is a joyful sight to behold.........

What an incredible artist you are, Jeanie!!!!!!!!! Wow!!! Truly, my heart started beating fast!!!
Wow! (You're leaving me almost speechless!

I am curious what kind of camera you have. I just got a new point and shoot, but I'm wondering if I'd enjoy an upgrade.

So, I just did my first post using the new platform. Why was I freaking out about it? Seemed natural. But you and Monique helped to calm me donw and reassure me, so un grand merci!!!!!

WOW, Jeanie. Such glorious color and beauty. I do believe you live in paradise. My favorite photos are along the highway and the view across the lake - simply magnificent! We have no red as of yet, but the huge sugar maple in the yard behind us is turning gold. Fall truly is a splendid time of year.
Enjoy all the beauty!

Not much color where I'm at but the sumac is red in my yard. I just contracted a guy to come cut it down. I'm allergic to the stuff. Your photos are gorgeous.

This kind of scenery was what I wanted to see when I went on my New England road trip a few years back. But I didn't see so much red. Well I was a few weeks early, around this time. Your pics are awesome! In my neck of the woods, fall is golden, not red, for we don't have any maple trees.

Oh, these pictures are jaw-droppingly beautiful! The colors are exquisite! Your morning view is one to envy, for sure. I love the transition of the colors from trees to pumpkins to sunsets. We haven't seen much in the way of fall colors so far here in NJ. I think it will happen quickly - one morning I will wake up and they will have turned from green to red! Many of my summer flowers are still going gangbusters, which I can't understand. They've never lasted this long. Well, 2020 is an oddity in many ways, I guess.

I think some blogs are not showing up on my blog list on real time. This just appeared today. Hmmm. What wonderful colors and photo Jeanie. You definitely have some fall. Even the sunset has fall colors-smile. It does have beautiful colors. Our colors have come and are going fast this year. I think it is our dry weather. Enjoyed the views today Jeanie. Hugs-Erika

Beautiful!! The leaves are just starting to change here, I can't wait until they are on fire like this. I think I would like fall at the lake the best of all. But then I like fall, best of all.

Jeanie, your fall colors whether on the roadway or along the water are simply amazingly beautiful! Last weekend, we took a drive and saw some wonderful colors and hopefully will go walking in our favorite park this weekend before they go away. We've had rain today and cooler weather coming afterwards so the foliage should be wonderful and perhaps brief. A local cemetery has a lot of trees and it's a wonderful place to walk and read the weathered headstones, especially now when social distancing is easily done...no one there will even be talking.

Carola Bartz said...

You have stunning colors! I especially like the colorful trees at the lake, such eye candy! We still have to wait for color, it usually happens a bit later in October, but then they will be with us for quite some time.

Those colors are STUNNING!!! That you for sharing. I just love fall. It reminds us there is beauty in letting go. Our colors aren’t that vibrant here yet. We are probably a week or so behind you guys, but I am seeing lots of orange and yellow on my walks. I am hoping to get to a state park before the peak is over as there are usually beautiful views on the trails.

Such beautiful scenes. I adore sunsets and you captured several gorgeous pics. The fall leaves are beautiful. That is one thing you get before us is beautiful autumn. The shot driving down the road is especially brilliant.
What a colorful post.

Your Autumns are so lovely where you live, Jeanie. They remind me very much of our Autumns up north. Here, in So Cal, we don't get the extreme seasons, but up north the Autumns are glorious. You get beautiful golds and oranges and reds. And I love that photo of the floating leaf. And your sunset photos are amazing.
