The Day After -- and the One After That!

I'm not sure how Molly's mom and dad pulled it off, but the day after the wedding, they hosted an open house for family and friends. Because all of us have pretty big families, we could only invite so many to the wedding, so it was a good way for others to celebrate -- and it gave us some time to be together in a less formal situation.

Molly's family live in the country and it was a wonderful setting -- peaceful, laid back and lovely. A good place to just hang out!

Kevin and Molly opened their gifts and we enjoyed talking with each other and catching up.

There were also games like croquet, volleyball and beanbag toss for anyone who wanted to give it a go.

The kids were invited to this one, which gave it a magic all its own.

And the bigger kids even did pull-ups on one of the big, old trees.

After we took off from there, the rest of Rick's family still in town came over for a BBQ and more talk.

The home to bed and off for more fun! This time it was to Rick's aunt's cottage about an hour away. And guess what some of us did as we sat on the dock!

Yup -- Rick caught some Zzz's! Meanwhile I caught up with Rick's aunts and mom and met the new rival for Rick's affections.

I regret to report that he has fallen for a younger woman. I knew the day would come! I just didn't think the competition wouldn't quite yet be two!

This sweet miss has personality plus!

But then, I should have figured it out, because so do her mom and dad!

So, we're slowly getting back to normal. Spinning and the gym, getting the house in order, looking forward to the lake.

And yes, catching up on our rest after all the fun and merriment!

Hi Jeanie,
What a peaceful and beautiful place they have... I love the wooden swing... Everyone looks as if they are having a great time.
The new arrival is adorable!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful day...
I think a nap would be in order, for you... Rick has already taken care of that. haaa

What a nice follow up to the wedding. I'm sure you guys are exhausted. Rick's new love interest is adorable. So glad everything came off so wonderfully.

Wow, you guys had a BIG weekend! But I can see why you tried to pack so much in as it's not often that you get that much family together. When my sister got married, my parents hosted a brunch the next day and ay yi yi, we were all exhausted afterwards. I think my mom bit off more than she could chew with that, but it was fun to get more time with family and the newly wedded couple! I love all the pictures - and can totally understand why Rick napped! I would have done the same!

What an absolutely splendid time -- and beautiful setting! I love the way those in the country seem to entertain so wonderfully and easily. My maternal grandparents lived and worked on a farm in Kansas and on Sundays, Grandma would make fried chicken and pie and relatives and friends dropped in much of the day. There was always enough and everyone was welcome. This post-wedding party looked very much like that. So lovely to see all generations having a great time!

What a beautiful setting, envious of those big skies.
Hey Jeanie, you spin too. We have a couple of spinning bikes here we bought cheap off the gym when they were doing up the place. It's a great workout.

NOW THIS, is summer. Relaxing with family and friends and pushing out the demands and stresses of the week is what it's all about Jeanie! Everyone looks so relaxed!

What a good idea, to have such a comfortable and easy gathering for everyone after the big day.

Clearly, Rick has very good taste in women. But of course, we already knew that!

I experienced a wedding also, that of my nephew Travis and his Shanna. It was set next to the Pacific Ocean and it didn't rain. Halleluia!

I can fully understand the main attraction Rick was drawn to. That sweet miss has such a unique feature, beyond 'cute'. If I were a casting director, she would be in a movie before long. Thanks Jeanie, this is a marvellous occasion you're sharing with us. Totally enjoy your pics.

I love the after the wedding laid back time together. How very special getting a chance to visit and play and yes! snooze a bit too. What fun this all looks to be. And then a trip to the lake to cap it off. Wonderful!

WOW--love this picnic-style "after party"--how nice! Actually, where I come from, picnic weddings are popular now as a more cost-effective happy day. Rick is zonked... too much fun, huh?! LOL... Thanks for sharing the happy times, Jeanie :o) ((HUGS))

I love, love, LOVE how Molly's parents opened their home for everyone to continue the celebration! For a lot of families, the wedding and reception might be the first time for face-to-face meetings. And it's so hectic amid the ceremony and dinner and party that you never really get to know them, just see members of your newly extended family for a few seconds in passing.

Plus, like you said, not everyone is going to the wedding, especially the kids. And having gone to weddings as a kid, I can imagine that little ones spending the day at a lovely country backyard party were much happier and more comfortable than being stuffed into "fancy" clothes for a formal reception.

P.S. The sweetie who stole your man, she's too cute! <3

oh Jeanie, that's so sweet. Weddings are amazing, but they can also be draining. And making sure one is not going over budget is always the hardest part.
They look just so in love. Wish them all the happiness in the world.

Sure glad you're not sneaking around me when I'm getting some shut-eye! What an adorable younger woman - who could compete?

I love when there is an activity or gathering the day after the wedding, and gifts are opened and everyone can visit and relax with each other. It looks as if you had a perfect day - and life is good for all. Lovely. Now...to rest and recuperate!

What a perfect way to end the wedding celebration. Extending the time together was a perfect thing for all.

I can see why Rick is smitten.

I hope to post more on our wedding tomorrow.

Hugs.
