My New Neighbor!

I have the most charming new neighbor!

I don't know if the Chickadee family have had their babies yet, but there certainly is a lot of action going on at Chez Chick these days.

Several years ago, my cousin Patty and her husband Dave gave me a birdhouse they had created. Dave built it -- it's wonderfully sturdy and quite heavy. Patty did the pretty painting on the front. I thought it purely decorative and left it on my plant ladder outside.

Well, apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks it's pretty!

These two are continually in and out of the house. I don't see them carrying twigs so I'm wondering if they've already settled and might be tending babies.

I couldn't resist making a little movie -- about a minute and a half -- of Mrs. C. dashing in and out.

It's such a treat to have them here.

Can't wait to see what happens next!

I love chickadees. They are social and very cute. They are even funny, and I feel like you can interact with them, unlike many other song birds who come around. Love the video of Chez Chick. That's a good name Jeanie. And it is a nice birdhouse too! Have a wonderful last day of April. Hugs-Erika

How fun! We used to have bluebirds create nests in a birdhouse when we lived in NC. It is fun to watch them feed the babies and then hoping catch the moment when the babies take flight!

How adorable! They couldn't resist your pretty little bird house, they knew it must be for them!

Well, you definitely have the prettiest bird house in blogland! How nice that the paint lasted and you got such sweet birds to nest there. Enjoy your day! It is indeed Spring!

So cute! The Youtube videos of chickadees building their nest could provide an idea of what stage your neighbors are at. I recently watched such a video. Birds are really fussy.

If your chickadee gets any fatter she's not going to fit through the door. So cute to be able to watch them!

I never realized how similar North American chickadees are to the birds we know here in the UK as coal tits. And apparently they are related!

Hello Jeanie,
The birdhouse is pretty, the chickadees are one of my favorite yard birds.
Maybe you will be seeing their babies soon. Love the photos and video.
Have a happy weekend!

Be sure to keep us posted on their progress, Jeanie. In my backyard a pair of chickadees constructed a perfect nest, complete as far as I can tell, but have abandoned it. I have no idea why.

Love your movie of the chickadee! I have them at my feeder all the time and have wondered where they nest. I will try a little birdhouse. Your box is darling.

I've always had chickadees at my feeders, but they seem to have moved on, or perhaps they're only taking a vacation. What fun to have some setting up housekeeping in your neighborhood. I'm sure that aesthetics played a role in their choice of a nesting spot!

Oh, Jeanie. I am so jealous. I love chickadees, they are the sweetest little birds. My bet is there are babies in that lovely home. You must stay at attention so we will know.

Happy May, my friend.

Oh I love you birdhouse and your renters. Do adorable. I have a birdhouse that was moms and its just sitting here. I thought about handing it but now I might paint it and then hang it. THanks for the idea.

Judy at GoldCountryCottage said...

Jeanie, the sweetest little thing. I hope they stay. We have a tiny bird house hanging outside the kitchen window for years and it has never even been considered fair housing to my knowledge except the other day we say a little all brown bird (I am not good at species) poking his head in and out of the door like he was feeding something and then another one flew out, which I am assuming is the mama. But now we haven't seen them for a couple of days but we are so hoping they will return. We have been watching Ozark on Netflix so we have named them Marty and Wendy Bird!!..Have a great week..xxoJudy

Treat indeed, as is their house. While having any board set up house would be nice, you really scored with the chickadees.

What fantastic neighbours to have, and a thrill that they surprised you by choosing your nesting box! It's a nice little video- I am wondering what the tinkling noise was ( a little ornament, I'm guessing?) And fun to hear other birds in the background.

I looked up yesterday and there were four small chickadees at my feeder! I think they may be new little ones from a nest in the cedar tree next door.

I love that beautiful birdhouse!

Oh fun! Is this bird house in an area where Lizzie can watch the action? I bet she would love that. Or maybe it would drive her crazy! Every time I hear about birds in a bird house, it makes me think of the book "The Best Nest by P.D. Eastman." That has been ready many many times in our house so gets brought up quite a bit! It's out of print so we had to order a secondhand copy through amazon. We read it for the first time when Paul got tubes put in at 9 months. It's about a bird couple that is looking for a new house.

It has been great to hear the birds singing again. We've seen lots of robins in our yard as our lawn was aerated last fall. So I guess that makes it easier for them to get worms.

To be honest, I'm glad you told us this was a chickadee. It's obvious I know nothing about birds. Sally fills her feeders then watches them. She bought a book so she could learn what each species is. I have YOU (grin)!!

Oh, that sweet Chickadee. How delightful to have seen him coming in and out of the bird house. And that bird house is so cute. The birds make me smile, and I'm seeing more and more of them coming around now.

How fun!!! Jeanie, watching birds is just the best! We had Momma dove trying to nest in the large hanging basket outside our kitchen backdoor again. Again there was an egg and this time the baby hatched... But, I heard the local hawk again... I really don't know if the baby flew off with her or what, but no feathers were found, so maybe!

Enjoy your sweet chickadees and their future babies!!! Happy to feature your post here at 10:30p.m. (fell asleep before I could finish creating SYS #345 tonight),
Hugs,
Barb :)
