Christmas Songs that Seem to Fit This Year!

I was thinking about this year being so different in terms of gatherings with family and friends and made my own little musical play list (in no particular order) of songs that seem to take on a bit more relevance this year! (Some of these arrangements are not the usual singers! And some are!)

(I should add that some of these are favorites but some are NOT my favorite songs. They're just sad songs. My Christmas playlist of favorites is far longer and only a few of these make that list!)

  • We Need a Little Christmas (Johnny Mathis)

  • Hard Candy Christmas  (Dolly Parton)

  • Merry Christmas, Darling  (The Carpenters)
  • Blue Christmas  (John Denver)
  • I'll Be Home for Christmas  (Michael Buble)
  • Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas  (John Denver and Rowlf)
  • The Christmas Blues  (Dean Martin)
  • My Christmas Tree is Hung with Tears  (Sarah Brown)
  • Please Come Home for Christmas  (The Eagles)
  • Baby, Please Come Home

Hello, Jeanie

I love all of these Christmas songs on your list. I have to look back at my play list, most of yours are favorites of mine too. Take care, have a happy day!

I have a Christmas playlist on Spotify that's over 24 hours long lol so I'm definitely a fan of Christmas songs. You have a great selection here :) Thanks!

I avoid Christmas music at all opportunities, actually.

I especially like We Need a Little Christmas and I'm sure it will be playing in my head the rest of the day:)

Thanks, but I seem to be related to the Grinch, I don't care for Christmas music or films. I'll stick to murder and mayhem! Hugs, Valerie

I feel the need to tell you about "Can't Stop Christmas" by Robbie Williams... The video is well worth a watch! :)

What a nice collection here, thank you.
Unfortunately Please Come Home for Christmas (The Eagles) will not play/video not available. I am sure we can find it elsewhere on You Tube though.
Once again, thank you for this selection.

All the best Jan

Clever Jeanie. I bet there are some covid parodies out there. I know most of these except a couple. I need to go check them out now. Hope it was a good Wednesday!

I love the Eagles but never heard that song before. I am not one for Christmas music, I guess. You have a nice playlist, though. I think my favorite is Little Drummer Boy, but doesn't fit with your song list.

My all-time favorite popular Christmas song is "Silver Bells." I'd put it on the list, just because!

Love these, and don't forget Elvis' Blue Christmas. ;)
More importantly, how about GRP's Let There Be Peace on Earth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A70ZLD1CRzA

We so need it!🙏

This is spot on. I know my sister gets super sad this time of year - she is in Tucson and so rarely gets home for Christmas. But now we are all feeling those same feelings of sadness and missing out. :( I have high hopes for 2021!!

Oh, I *LOVE* that you made this list!

For me, it's not Christmas until I hear The Carpenters "Merry Christmas Darling." Takes me back to my radio days, sitting in a control room, cueing up that song and talking (long distance!) to my then boyfriend.
Warm memory!

I'd add the Mannheim Steamroller to the lineup, too!

Merry Christmas, Jeanie - xoxo

It's funny I've been hearing "we need a little Christmas" in my head for days. Not the version you quoted but Lucille Ball as Mame in the movie. I think the song was written for that play originally? maybe, anyway it's in my head and it's true.

You have inspired me. I shall listen to some Christmas CDs today, and think about having music at my Christmas party when my daughter's family shows up.

I second adding Manheim Steamroller.

Michael Buble is one of my favorites at Christmas.

Very special music to keep in the Christmas mood. Michael Buble has an amazing voice. Soothing and such a treat.

Jeanie, that is a very appropriate play list. I see our favorite John Denver made your list. Michael Buble has such a fabulous voice. We have seen him twice in concert! His voice was just as good in person as recorded. We have seen a lot of concerts in our time, and the only other one whose voice was just as good as his recordings was John Denver! Have a wonderful weekend!

Michael Buble is my favourite also. I also like Andy Williams.
Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas
Thelma.

I am saving this to come back when I have time to listen to the songs. The only one I didn't recognize is the one by Dolly Parton- Hard Candy Christmas.
Have a wonderful night- xo Diana

Oh, Rowlf! Crazy, Ingo just the other day talked about how Rowlf played the piano, trying to read the notes! (I´m nearly 8 years younger than Ingo and never understood the Muppets, yet my parents parked me in fron of the program, assuming it´s for kids).

I´ll listen my way through, thank you for the list and as you wished: Freddie (or Queen) with

"Thank God It´s Christmas"

(I have to do some research on why it is so fitting for today. Was it HIV already?)

I recognize many of these. I haven’t started listening to Christmas music yet this year, even though it’s just a week away. What a strange strange year this is. Are better days ahead? I certainly hope so.

I have been listening to Michael Buble's Christmas music, but generally I haven't been listening as much this year. I miss it.
