A Full, Hectic Week!

It's been a good week or two and not a lazy one! I've been busy ramping up for the art sale (which is November 13-15 and if you live in my area of Lansing, MI and want more details, let me know and I can email them to you!) There will be nine of us altogether and while we're all a bit apprehensive on how sales will go with things being financially precarious for so many, it will be fun, no matter what. Still, our prices are fair (and no tariffs!) These are some of the paintings I did this year that will be included.

In addition to the framed (and matted) watercolors, I'll have lots of cards, many from photos and some original watercolors, and the felties.

Someone asked me how the felties were made. Sometime this winter I'd like to do a post on that but briefly, they start looking like this -- just a glob of fiber. With a lot of pokes through needles, end up as little shapes -- birds, sheep, mushrooms, pumpkins, cats, and more!  I'm taking a class in January from one of my fellow vendors at the sale and am very excited about that! Stay tuned!

Our Friends of Theatre hosted the first of two classes leading into (and right after) the Shakespeare tragedy, "Othello," which our U-theatre is doing. I was so enthused after hearing the speakers that I can't wait to see the show!

(And I was able to unload much of my Halloween oreo stash on the refreshment table!)

A good share of that stash went to the grands, too, as I made them treat bags. We headed to the metro Detroit area to see our oldest, Carson (who is in third grade) be named one of the students of the month for his school. Needless to say, we were very proud of our guy!

Here he is with Mom and Dad!

Then we took off for a "Date Day," first visiting some friends and then having a wonderful lunch at our favorite Italian market. I should have photographed this before it was half gone!

But it was delicious -- and so was the wine!

Then it was on to IKEA. This was a major big deal for me and the first real test of my bad foot. I made it through but I really felt it. Double icing that night. I haven't bought this chair -- YET -- but I will in a couple of weeks when Kate and I do our annual trip. I have similar chairs in my living room and have had for years. The other day I moved it to vacuum and the leg fell off! This looks a bit sturdier!

It was good we had Date Day when we did because two days later, our temps took a mega-dive into the Polar Vortex. We got our first snow at home -- collectively about a couple inches. It didn't cover all the grass and never stuck to the cement but it was mighty cold.

Meanwhile, there was another problem in the offing. We had left the cottage water on for pipe and drain work which was happening this week, but with temps due to go as low as 15, we were pretty sure the pipes wouldn't make it unless we got some heat into the house. So, Rick left Sunday for an emergency trip, due to come back after the pipe work is done. When he arrived, the thermostat was like this. Yes, very cold.

He says he has the heat up to about 68 and is sleeping on the floor (closing off the bedrooms to maximize heat in the main part of the house.  I just hope all goes well with the plumbing work so he can come home!

I leave you with a look at an interesting tree, shot through the windshield on a rainy day. Our color is still holding on. A little sun to max it out would be nice, but you go with what you've got!

This is posting on Veteran's Day, so I wanted to take a minute and share a photo of my dad from WWII, where he served in the Pacific theatre in what was then India and now is Pakistan.

To veterans everywhere, in America and those abroad, thank you.

Hope you art exhibition and sale goes well and what a good thing the leg didn't fall off the chair when someone was sitting on it!

Thank you to your dad for his service!
Glad he made it up there to turn off the water - it could be a mess. Temperatures here dropped very quickly!

Enjoy your art show no snow here but very very cold since the weekend-we had been spoiled-

That polar vortex is heading our way. Sorry you had the snow. Winter looks like it will be early this year, too early in November. It sounds like you have been very busy but fun busy. Congrats to Carson. You must be proud. And poor Rick sleeping in the cold. I hope that job gets done ASAP and he's home. Good luck with your sale too. Have a wonderful and hopefully warmer rest of your week. hugs-Erika

Your dad was very handsome! My dad is a Veteran as well - he was in the Navy during the Vietnam wore. He enlisted because he felt being in the Navy was a lower risk post versus being drafted and being in active combat on the ground. If there hadn't been a war, he would not have enlisted. He was married for most of his service and they had a child during that time which was not optimal with my dad being away on cruises for upwards of 6 months! But they made it through.

We missed the snow but it was very cold and blustery. We saw some snowflakes but not enough to accumulate on the ground. I am not ready for winter!! Good luck with your show! You've got some beautiful items so I wish you much success! We have one of your owl felties on the wreath above our fireplace! It hung on our tree initially but then we decided he did not want to be packed away for 10ish months of the year!

Your dad is a handsome man. It is clear you have his eyes and smile. I hope Rick is ok after his roughing it floor snoozing adventure. Your artwork has a lot of charm. Prayers the sale is a success.

Happy Veterans Day to your handsome, fascism fighting dad!

I'm so bummed that I'm not around for your sale, Jeanie. I would love dibs on the penguin I saw in your last post...

I absolutely love your artwork, dear friend! Your photos are gorgeous, including the beautiful family ones!
We got our first snow here in Montreal, between Sunday and today, Remembrance Day, and it is gorgeous! A real winter wonderland! I do love the Autumn and Winter...Spring, too! Summer, well, OUR summer is extremely hot and humid coupled with wildfires, it is dangerous for breathing and going out, so it is difficult to "enjoy" it. I do the best I can and take one day at a time.
I wish you all the best and that the sale is a huge success!

Even down here...the first snow only stuck to dead leaves and suchlike, above the ground, but last night the moon shone on new-fallen snow!

Hope you and your friends have some great sales, Jeanie. Too bad that Rick had to wait in a cold cottage for the plumbing repairs to be sone, hopefully completed. No snow here yet, but a blustery day today with snow flurries for the annual Veterans Day parade on Main St.

My dad was in the navy and stationed in the Pacific around the Philippines. Thanks to all our vets.
Will be nice when the place is all closed up and okay for the winter. You will be delighted to see it in the spring.
Best of luck to all of you on the art sale!! :)

Oh dear! Poor Rick sleeping in the cold, I do hope the job gets done quickly and he can come home.
Keep warm and well ...

All the best Jan

That is an old thermostat. I imagine that's as high tech as is feasible there.

That IKEA chair. Do you have to weaver it yourself? ;)

I so hope your art show goes well. You have some fabulous sale items. You certainly are busy. Ahh student of the month. Very nice. Glad your foot is doing better. I have never been to IKEA. The closest one is in Portland and well we never go there. LOL I like the look of the chair.

I especially like that picture of the houses! But all of them are just great. Good luck with your sale!
How is your foot doing? Is it healing well? So difficult when it is feet or hands that give us trouble, as we depend on them so much.
I somehow missed that you were a needle felter! Do you follow Gretel Parker in England? I was lucky enough to meet her in person in 2016 when we were in England. Her felting is so whimsical, and I think her last book did pretty well.
Fingers crossed that all goes well at the cabin!

Goodness, you've been amazingly active! Congrats to Carson! (And what a pleasure to be there when he received his award.) Date night looked like like a delicious event... And congrats on your first major trek -- but also glad to hear you were giving your foot some major love afterwards. Take care of yourself!!! It looks like you are well-prepared for your art sale... I hope it all goes well. I know you'll all have fun!

Nice Ikea chair. Good luck with the sale this weekend. Felties are like making magic come out of a glob of wool. As if my magic. Congratulations to your grandson on being Student of the Month. Good for him. Hoping Rick can get the cabin buttoned down soon and return home. Stay warm and cozy.

You have been a busy beaver. I hope the sale goes well and that you have a lot of fun. Congratulations to Carson. That is quite an achievement for a young boy. Rick is champ going up to the cabin to take care of the pipes. I hope all went well. Thank you to your dear dad for his service. He was a handsome fellow and I'm sure you miss him a lot. Last but not least, I like the chair from IKEA. I'm tentatively thinking I need a chair to put beside new bookshelves which I've yet to buy, lol. I should probably get the bookshelves first and make sure everything is working as it should I don't want to buy bookshelves but the shelves on one of mine started collapsing a few months ago!

Thank you for sharing you days and memories. Fantastic autumn colours. We don't want snow yet, do we? I really felt the autumn when I came back to Sweden from sunny days with blu skies in SK and J. Here it is so dark and the clouds are like a roof on top of us.
Great paintings for your market, sounds lovely.

Great, great art! Wish someone´d invent beaming, I´d pop over for the real thing!
And congrats to the student!!! Sweet, happy, proud pics, thank you for the smile I have now, too!
And Pizza....
On foot IKEA is only an hour away and I haven´t been there in ages. I hope to skip any snow this year... fingers crossed for the plumbing work - yikes!
To veterans.

Jeanie, your photos are inspiring as always. Hope the sale goes well...so pretty. Love the pic of you and Rick at your sweet grand.... as well as the date day. The Captain and I try to have a date day or night regularly. As far as the cold...we woke up to temps in the low 40's here in SW Florida which of course is very cold for us and there were gusting winds which made it even colder. brrrrr. I hope Rick can get home soon (and off the floor) I'm afraid if I got down, I would not be able to get up (without help). LOL Have a great and Blessed week.

A big congratulations to Carson! I can see how proud everyone was of him. Your father was very handsome. We have quite the veterans in our family, including Mr. Cottage himself. I felted a pair of mittens many years ago...Boy, are they ever warm!!
Nice going Carson..
Glad you avoided frozen pipes...looks like you should be OK at 60..
We are warming up to 50 again..I don't know for how long!!

You were very busy this week. Glad the pipes didn't break that is such a nightmare. Love all the artwork and you look great. We're having a heck of a week here...Hubby's two eye surgeries, second next week. Doctor got trapped in NYC with plane cancellations so yesterday was a 9 hour day with what should have been 4 hours travel and 2 hours for the surgery in and out, but he was 3 1/2 hours late...UGH! Good luck on your art sale...! Sandi

Never been to IKEA

shoreacres said...

I went to IKEA once, in about 1995, and by the time I got out I swore never again; I felt like a rat in a maze. I hope by now they've redesigned the traffic patterns in their stores! Of course, our IKEA is 40 miles or more away, on the west side of Houston, so there's that.

Congrats to the super student, and to his parents and grandparents, who clearly have played a role in his success!
And congrats to you for making it through IKEA, and for being so prepared for your sale. I know it will go well!

What a lovely post! Your father was a very handsome man. I adore all your artwork and how you are out there selling prints! I admire that. I could never do that. I am too scared. It's so amazing that you are making felties! Oh I love felties. I just bought some mice. You are so talented and creative. Congratulations for your grandson's award! That is amazing! You look so happy for him, what a lovely picture. Your picture of the pizza and wine look amazing. I am glad your leg is getting stronger and better. We got snow too. But now it has melted. Have a lovely rest of the day and a wonderful weekend too! Thank you for your visit to my blog. :) Hugs!

I'm sure your grandchildren appreciated the leftover candy. As a child I always loved it when we got candy. I still do, but now I worry about my teeth ; )

Good luck with your sale! You have a great variety to offer and I'm sure that you will sell a lot. When I look at my shop, I wouldn't believe that people have less money. I've been selling more than ever this holiday season and some items are already sold out and I can barely restock.
Hopefully the work at the cabin will be done quickly so Rick can return. It doesn't exactly sound like fun to sleep on the floor in a not too warm house. I hope he has enough blankets.
Congratulation to Carson. I remember those Student of the Month events. Wine and pizza look good to me as well!

Way to go, Carson! Glad you could at least try your foot and know your limits. Love the chair, and of course, your felties. 😉Glad RIck made the trip, even though it may have not been in the plan. We had our first hard freeze and 3" of snow this past week! I hope that's not a sign of our winter to come.

Your first snow! Ours will be coming soon. Good for Carson for making Student of the Month! I am writing this after your art sale, so I hope you did good and it was a productive day. You have so many cards for sale. And I love those felties that you make. They're so soft and cute. I like that little chair at Ikea. The pizza looks delicious. I was craving pizza after a long day with workers at the house, and it hit the spot, a delicious combination. That is a beautiful Autumn tree. Our Autumn is still lingering here too.

Have a good November week, Jeanie.
