It's been kind of lonesome around here of late. Rick's been north, doing his annual retreat at the cottage, which culminates with his closing it up for the year. Once the temps drop and the leaves have fallen, I'd rather be home! He's home now, but it felt like a long time! This was our first Halloween where I didn't make chili while he handed out the treats. That was a bit weird! (It was also weird that we only had 15 goblins come to the door and now I have to unload 45 packets of Oreos to someone who isn't watching their sugar!) The photo is just SOME of the leftovers.
I finally got my Covid shot and had quite the reaction -- a very high fever for a couple of days. People tell me that is good -- it means my immune system is working. Now the only one left is the shingle series.
On the home front, I've been getting ready for the November art sale and making felties like a crazy woman (along with packing cards and such). I'll update the Gypsy Caravan soon.
It was a beautiful autumn day when I went on a mission to get cat food. I had to take a detour, since a bridge was under construction. That took me by this cider hut. Did I stop? Of course!
I've flipped my calendars over to November. I have three of them, no more than three feet apart from each other (this is one of them, by my friend Kate, but I like them all!). One would think I'd forget nothing. However, in October, I completely missed a good friend's birthday, my haircut and probably something else I won't know till someone calls me out on it.
An arborist came look at a tree branch that had broken precariously. I'll get that fixed in a couple of weeks (as soon as he can do it), but he also noted a couple of problems he thought a bit more serious -- like tree branches hitting the roof and right atop the internet line. There was also some early damage to my favorite ginkgo tree caused by limbs from the locust repeatedly rubbing off the bark. So, I decided to do it all. I thought his estimate was fair, given the additional work, but ouch!
Meanwhile, I'm grumbling about the time change. I can never seem to adapt my body to it, no matter how long it takes or how hard I try. I dread waking at four-thirty and not being able to get back to sleep, rather than five-thirty (and still not getting back to sleep, but at least it's closer to get-up time!) I wish it could stay daylight saving time forever! I don't need light in the morning but I sure need it at night!

Oh goodness, your covid vaccine reaction sounds rough! Phil feels terrible after Covid vaccines as well. I have never had a single symptoms besides a sore arm. I am on so many immune suppressants, though, so I think that limits my response - but hopefully not its effectiveness.
We had fewer goblins, too. But the boys got extra candy it seems. I think people were extra generous since the conditions were not good (upper 30s and drizzling). We have TOO MUCH CANDY!! I wish it would go away but everyone else in my family seems to be a moderator.
Your cats both looks and acts something like Lacey did.
Sleep is so problematic, but I had a good one -- for me -- last night. Thanks goodness; I was beginning to despair.

I still haven't caught up from the time change either! Good for you on scheduling the shingles shots. Shingles is a miserable disease.
There is an Instagramer, SpiceyJack that is comforting to watch. Spicyjack is the old cat and Meowdy is the newly introduced kitten. The Not a cozy pairing at first has turned into a delight to see the older cat playing! For cat lovers, I feel, watching those videos melts the heart.

As I was reading your post, I was munching a leftover hershey bar — Halloween size — left from the holiday. Our consumption of Halloween candy started in September. So decadent. I admire you for giving it away.
A lovely post. Now days all of the kids go to our Old Town, and there are so many trunk n treat that here we don't get any kids. Ohh the cider shop how nice is that. Everybody I know hates the changing of time. It is so stupid and it really does upset our inner clocks.
Between the "fall-back" and your Covid vaccine, no wonder you're feeling off-balance! Hope you're feeling back to normal very soon!
I'm surprised, though, by the low numbers of trick-or-treaters? Do you think it's changing demographics in your neighborhood? Or do you get the sense that more kids are going to organized trick-or-treating events?
Lizzie is, of course, adorable.
And I love the felties! Especially the sheep with the curly wool! Do you knit them, then stuff & wash them to felt them?

Since Covid began in 2020, I have had 10 vaccines and thank God no reaction to any. All my vaccines were Moderna, ans one was Pfizer.

You're doing well with your vaccinations Jeanie. I'd love to say the same but I'm so far behind. I'm glad Lizzie was able to keep you company while Rick was away and I know you've been keeping more than busy getting ready for the sale. All the very best with it. I do wish we didn't have to have time/clock changes because getting used to the change often takes a while!

Around here certain areas are now popular for Halloween and the residents go to lots of trouble and expense, with mechanical ghosts and all kinds of sound and light effects. . It's quite the experience (though from what I see the candy isn't any better than before lol). And lots of adults too - I think it is quite a family thing ! Interesting how times change.
Lizzie is so adorable! Japan doesn’t have daylight savings time or Trick or Treating and I’m okay with that.

I can relate to your feelings about the time change. It's so dark at 4:30 AM, isn't it? And for that matter, so dark at 4:30 PM too (at least in my area). Tree work is never cheap, as we have found out also. Sorry the Covid shot made you not feel well. Mine felt like I didn't even get the shot. Your felties are pretty cute. They're talking about ending the time changes there and here, I think. Not sure how far along that is there, but it seems to be stalled here. Last I heard about this here was when they were deciding whether to stay on summertime or wintertime. Then came the pandemic and that was that.
Love the wee felted items. I've never felted a sculptural piece--just flat pieces and bowl shapes to embellish.
Tree surgery -- a necessary evil! You'll be glad when it's all done. Glad you got your Covid shot out of the way. I'm not even eligible for one, apparently, but Dave is because of his Crohn's disease and medications. Glad Rick is back and Lizzie can relax without having to chase rainbows. :)
Lizzie is still cute! She is the Queen for sure. No goblins in our neighborhood at all. We dont pass out candy anymore. Tree cutting can be expensive. I know as had to have 4 big ones cut down in my yard. Looks like we are in for some snow today. UGH Janice

We're again involved in a Canada Post strike,this one..revolving kind of.. so as it will be my last yr mailing Christmas..I am doing it early.They are done,,They are all last yrs offerings as last yr it was a full stop strike:( Hohohohohumbug.In any time stamp..I never sleep a full night..and then the mind gets hyperactive..a lost cause.We are expecting snow later..I have the flannel sheets on..So cozy.Our shots are not this week but next..Flu and Covid.Shingles are all done.PS I love the new mayor in NYC:)
My neighbor paid a small fortune to have her pin oak across the street trimmed in spring. Unfortunately, she was not here and her sister watched from inside the house. The tree company did NOTHING to the side of the tree which hangs in our direction and over the high voltage wires. Unfortunately, my report to the neighbor fell on deaf ears. Hoping it stays within its bounds if it falls.
One sister had a pretty rough reaction to the Covid shot too. I don't take that one, but I did get a pneumonia shot this year, and have gotten the RSV and shingrix.

The time change always throws me for a loop for at least several weeks and I hate how dark it gets so early in the evening now... though I'm trying to focus on enjoying the pretty sunrises I've been seeing since we changed the clocks. Your felties are so adorable!
I'm always surprised when someone mentions the Covid shot. I've not had one since the first pair, and haven't heard anyone else mention them, either. I did get my flu shot a couple of weeks ago, and was surprised to have so little reaction I forgot I'd had it until I spotted the bandaid the pharmacist had slapped on!
I'm glad you're getting the trees tended to. A friend just had a dead pine removed. As she said, it cost more than she was happy to pay, but it was much less expensive than roof damage! With more winter storms probably in the future, it's good you have it done. Of course, winter storms mean winter means Christmas -- fun to see you're getting ready for holiday sales. It's time! I swear that this year I'm going to get Christmas cards done by December 1. I always end up making an appeal to the twelve days of Christmas as a way of excusing my tardiness!

I don't live in a state that does daylight savings - honestly, we live too far North (in the Southern hemisphere) for it even to be of any use. When I did live South for a few summers, I always went the wrong way!
