A Full, Hectic Week!

It's been a good week or two and not a lazy one! I've been busy ramping up for the art sale (which is November 13-15 and if you live in my area of Lansing, MI and want more details, let me know and I can email them to you!) There will be nine of us altogether and while we're all a bit apprehensive on how sales will go with things being financially precarious for so many, it will be fun, no matter what. Still, our prices are fair (and no tariffs!) These are some of the paintings I did this year that will be included. 

 

In addition to the framed (and matted) watercolors, I'll have lots of cards, many from photos and some original watercolors, and the felties. 

 

Someone asked me how the felties were made. Sometime this winter I'd like to do a post on that but briefly, they start looking like this -- just a glob of fiber. With a lot of pokes through needles, end up as little shapes -- birds, sheep, mushrooms, pumpkins, cats, and more!  I'm taking a class in January from one of my fellow vendors at the sale and am very excited about that! Stay tuned!

Our Friends of Theatre hosted the first of two classes leading into (and right after) the Shakespeare tragedy, "Othello," which our U-theatre is doing. I was so enthused after hearing the speakers that I can't wait to see the show!

 

(And I was able to unload much of my Halloween oreo stash on the refreshment table!)

A good share of that stash went to the grands, too, as I made them treat bags. We headed to the metro Detroit area to see our oldest, Carson (who is in third grade) be named one of the students of the month for his school. Needless to say, we were very proud of our guy!

Then we took off for a "Date Day," first visiting some friends and then having a wonderful lunch at our favorite Italian market. I should have photographed this before it was half gone!

 

But it was delicious -- and so was the wine!

 

Then it was on to IKEA. This was a major big deal for me and the first real test of my bad foot. I made it through but I really felt it. Double icing that night. I haven't bought this chair -- YET -- but I will in a couple of weeks when Kate and I do our annual trip. I have similar chairs in my living room and have had for years. The other day I moved it to vacuum and the leg fell off! This looks a bit sturdier!

It was good we had Date Day when we did because two days later, our temps took a mega-dive into the Polar Vortex. We got our first snow at home -- collectively about a couple inches. It didn't cover all the grass and never stuck to the cement but it was mighty cold.

 

Meanwhile, there was another problem in the offing. We had left the cottage water on for pipe and drain work which was happening this week, but with temps due to go as low as 15, we were pretty sure the pipes wouldn't make it unless we got some heat into the house. So, Rick left Sunday for an emergency trip, due to come back after the pipe work is done. When he arrived, the thermostat was like this. Yes, very cold. 

 

He says he has the heat up to about 68 and is sleeping on the floor (closing off the bedrooms to maximize heat in the main part of the house.  I just hope all goes well with the plumbing work so he can come home! 

 

I leave you with a look at an interesting tree, shot through the windshield on a rainy day. Our color is still holding on. A little sun to max it out would be nice, but you go with what you've got! 

 

This is posting on Veteran's Day, so I wanted to take a minute and share a photo of my dad from WWII, where he served in the Pacific theatre in what was then India and now is Pakistan.
