It's been both lovely and challenging, these final days at the lake. And for the most part, it has been simply beautiful.
Our color is very late this year. You see a great tree here, then another there, but no big swaths of color that are typical for this time of year. I'm suspecting it is late and when Rick returns in another week or so to close up, he'll have a much more colorful season. But when you see something lovely, you go for it!
Rick's been riding -- several very long rides and some shorter ones. He's had great weather for it.
He said pretty much everywhere he goes, the color is marginal at best.
He also took a paddle in the neighbor's kayak.
It's been perfect kayak weather -- calm and sunny.
Me? I'm on foot-rest for 4-6 weeks, and it's killing me. I just want to take a walk. My walking is restricted to hobbling around the house when I must, going in and out of must-visit places, and basically reading, painting and watching video. I grant it is not hard penance but also NOT how I wanted to spend my fall. Lizzie is more active than I am allowed to be. (She sleeps 22 hours a day.) then 4-6 weeks of PT after that.
We've enjoyed some good meals here and nice to have the grill in full operation!
And a glass of wine with dinner is always a plus!
We did try to go out one evening -- the restaurant was closed but the deer along the way seemed contented! (We went another day.)
I mentioned that I've been painting, so here is a bit of show-and-tell. First, a view of Montmartre.
This card is a little sunflower sprite.
I don't like this photo because the color (or lighting where I shot it) is off -- but it's a beigey background.
And your opinion on this -- in the area above the pumpkin, should it say "Thankful" or "Grateful"?
This was a tutorial class project.
And finally, my favorite! Yes, Santa is coming.
I'm having a tough time up here, so much I want to do. And knowing that our time is drawing to an end.
I'll have at least one more postcard for you before I close the series out for the season. Meanwhile,
Celebrate the sunsets.
There is so much to love and for which to be grateful. Even on the bad days.

Your paintings are so GOOD! This could become a blog of your artwork during these still days, maybe? Hoping! Ha ha. I like them and hope to see more.
I think the pumpkin may want to say thankful because of Thanksgiving. 🤔
...Jeanie, all good things come to an end!
Postcards from. the lake are always a little vacation for me. I love when you are there. Everything is rosy and beautiful and I am so sorry you can not walk . Heal well, and thoroughly! Gorgeous sunsets!!
Your paintings are wonderful. We are under a frost warning tonight. UGH Oh well Autumn is here. Loved seeing your Fall pics too. Hope you can get back to your routine soon. Take care. Janice
The Montmartre view is really good, atmospheric. Thanks for showing us.
Love the Montmartre view! My second favorite is the Give Thanks one. It's just so natural. Above the pumpkin, I don't know...those words, along with blessed, seem overused these days. Maybe Pie Time?
I hate that you are having such a rough time. Such healing is not easy. It reminds me of last fall when I had my knee surgery. Just miserable. I hope the time passes quickly for you.
So sorry to read about your footrest. That's a long time, and it must be frustrating. Maybe in January it wouldn't be so bad, but it has to be tough to miss the fall, even if the leaves aren't the prettiest this year. But you;be done some fantastic paintings, an I bet you've read lots of good books too. Try to be positive about it all, and hopefully it will only be 4 weeks and not 6. Enjoy these last few days at the lake. hugs-Erika
Your paintings are marvelous! So wonderful.
I'm sorry you are homebound with that silly foot. I had a season like that myself with my arm. I spent a lot of time watching boring tv and wishing I was able to do almost anything else. But it does pass! Wishing you healing!
Jeanie, I absolutely love, love, love your paintings! Your photos are beautiful! Lizzie is so cute, the deer is sweet! I love the photos of you and Rick!
I always enjoy seeing your artwork. You are quite talented especially that painting of Montmartre. Sorry you are so limited with getting around but you are making good use of your time with your painting. Lovely photos too.
Everything is so lovely
My goodness one of your little paintings has brought back a memory. it’s 40yrs since I wandered through the streets of Montmarte (1985) passing the artists then up the hill to the big white church - Basilica Sacre-Coeur - with its fabulous view of Paris.
I’m looking at your thermometer and thinking it’s registering about 13/14c - that’s chilly but I suppose compared to your winter temps it’s not too bad. Our Spring is being quite fickle, not knowing what it wants to do ….one day chilly next fairly pleasant ……roll on summer
All your paintings are lovely, especially the Montmartre! Give yourself some grace, healing is never goes as quickly as we would like.
Be warm, be cozy and be well. Best, Virginia
Hello Jeanie,
I am glad you are resting your foot. Beautiful Autumn leaves and the sunset are lovely. Your art work is beautiful too. Love the sweet deer and your Lizzie. Take good care of yourself. Have a happy day!
Such lovely days. I know, it is hard when you can not walk around as usual. I have a problem too for the moment, but I hope it is on the mending curve. At least you have good hobbies to lean back on. I am sure Lizzie is happy about your company.
What lovely paintings. I especially like the one from Montmartre, so beautiful. It makes me remembering my Paris trip and the walk up the hill to the cathedral.
Enjoy the beautiful autumn and good recovery.
Story to hear that you are immobile, Jeanie. I don’t remember as much greenery in Montmartre, but it’s been a long time. “Thankful” or “Grateful”? Seems like a coin toss to me.
Montmartre..wow! So much detail.Afte having had the summer..a summer of discontent with watching the gardens go by unable to do anything I hear you.:(. Thank goodness for our hobbies Jeanie.A gift.! Take care..Cheers on the wine.My glass is always welcome. So was Diane Keatons. We are in good company.
You’ve had the time to do your art, especially Montmartre and that little fairy tree house. Autumn seemed early here and not as full as some other years, but it has been good enough, and we have been having some very nice weather lately. Here’s to your physical rejuvenation.
Montmartre is lovely. So nice you can paint and read and rest that foot. I know it must be frustrating, however it will be better.
Hang in there Jeanie, I know its not easy, but at least you can enjoy painting and reading. I love seeing all your paintings! Sending prayers...
Jenna
What grand paintings, Jeanie, and of course, your postcard pics. I know it's hard, but do what the doctor ordered and take care of that foot.
so pretty and relaxing Jeanie...enjoy all while you can.
Oh that first pic says it all, the red leaves, the blue-trimmed cottage. I love autumn by the water . . .
That last line is so true. I’m sorry you are having your wings clipped when you want to soar. That is so hard. I am loving the artwork you are getting done though. I think the word “grateful” would be best on the pumpkin. Also, those sunsets! Thanks for sharing the beauty with us.
Hello Jeanie :)
I empathize with you wholeheartedly as I'm having to rest up because of a painful knee. It can be tedious but it's for the best. At least you are producing beautiful artwork, and I think either Thankful or Grateful is appropriate. The Father Christmas is as cute as can be, and so well executed. Those red leaves are lovely, and so are the deer and you also captured a lovely sunset.
All the best
Take care
Sonjia .
If it were me, I'd have the line above the pumpkin say "Ready for Pie." Then, when the card is opened, it should say, "Leaf me a piece!"
Very impressed with Rick and his bike. Can't imagine a more gorgeous setting for a ride.

I love your metal temperature flower! So cool!
Your paintings are just amazing! Thank goodness you have art and books to keep you busy on these down-time days.
I like both thankful and grateful. Both are words to keep in mind all the time. ;)
Hopefully the trees will still have time to really put on a show.
*love and hugs, my friend*
I like grateful for the space above the pumpkin :-) It's hard when you can't do the things you want to do. Your wise words at the end are worth remembering and I will remind myself--celebrate the sunsets--and all the other good things in life.
I'm so sorry you're having to let your foot rest but so glad it means time for painting. Kayaking sounds like it'd be so enjoyable!
Love your paintings..You have a definite style!!
We have no color yet...The leaves have barely started to fall..It has been so dry and hasn't turned cold yet so we my not have our usual vibrant colors..
Enjoy all your rest!!! ;)
oh your artwork is so so precious and beautiful!!!!! I hope your foot gets better soon. Get well soon, hugs!
I'm sorry you are having to take life at a slower pace ... but it is important to take things easy and follow Doctors orders :)
I enjoyed seeing your paintings and your sunset photographs are beautiful.
... and the word I would choose is 'thankful'.
Sending lots of good wishes to you.
All the best Jan
It looks like life is good at the lake. It’s hard to be patient while your foot heals, but you can paint and do other things in the meantime.
Your paintings are beautiful and so are the sunsets. Being immobile is tough for a person who loves being out enjoying the lake and nature. It will take a while but you'll get there. A good time to practice patience, that is something I'm always working on and hope I can achieve it someday. :)
In my part of the world the color of your leaves would be amazing to see. We do get color, but not as much as you do where you are.
I love your paintings and sunsets too.
Happy healing, may it be quicker than expected.
Well, I'm glad you have a diagnosis (at last) but the Rx sounds like a bear... especially when the weather is as gorgeous as it has been. Hang in there, though -- the days will pass, and hopefully you will notice improvements along the way.
It looks like you're making good use of the time at your watercolor table: I enjoyed your sunflower sprite and the delicate berries and leaves in the Give Thanks card, but there's something about the winding road and the detailed windows in the Montmartre card that seem mysterious & irresistible. Love the wrought iron fences and the lovely greenery!
Glad to hear you & Rick got out for dinner -- enjoy the happy moments! Wishing you all the best... anno xoxo
Great photos. Please be patient and do as doctor says; if you hurt it again, it could be permanent. As for the two words, the mean the same and both could be on the card. My preference is Thanksful. Have a great weekend
love the Montmartre sketch/watercolour. You have autumn leaves and we have purple jacaranda blossom this time of year. The whole of Brisbane is glowing with them. Hope your foot is better soon.

Your husband sure looks sporty! I love the card with the sunflower sprite. I feel for you, that you can't do what you would like to do because of your foot.
I'm sorry about your confinement and movement limitations Jeanie. The end of cottage time at the lake is a wistful time and you've captured it lovingly. Your paintings are beautiful as well. xx
Beautiful leaves! Take care.
Your paintings are lovely! Your photos are too. I'm sure it's not fun having to rest and keep off your foot. Just remember it's not forever.. even if it does feel that way while you're healing.
Those sunsets are stunning. I imagine it's hard to leave that screened-in porch and that view! Your paintings, especially the first one of Montmartre, wow! The railings on the windows, the rod-iron fence, the various colors of green in the trees, it's just gorgeous!
Oh, those beautiful fall leaves! Wow.
And I love your painting of Montmartre.
Your paintings are delightful, Jeanie. That looks like a little Elf door on the tree, and there is so much detail in the Montmartre piece. It's so charming. I would say "Thankful." on the pumpkin one as Thanksgiving is on the way. Love that one, by the way, and it may be my favorite. Oh, it's such a delight to see the deer. And that red tree in the front of your house is brilliant with color. I look forward to seeing one more post at the lake before you leave. The sunset photos are so pretty. Hang in there with your foot-rest. And feel better. I enjoyed this post very much, Jeanie. I feel a sense of relaxation when you share your time at the lake.
~Sheri
Hi Jeanie, I am so sorry you can’t get out for your walks. Take care and this will soon pass! I love all of your paintings, but my favorite is Montmartre! It is stunning. I look forward to your last postcard from the lake!
you have inspired me to make some time to paint. it is so relaxing and makes me very happy!!
pretty red leaves...i can't wait to see those deep, rich colors here. i loved your closing pictures!!
it is such a beautiful time of year...it must be hard for you to be missing you walks. i enjoyed seeing the deer and especially both of you...you both look great!!!
I will take a pic - here it´s still green in our backyard! A little yellow mixes in... No such beauty as in yours!
Rick shows me I should get active, too (but I tore a muscle, gah!).
Foot-rest sounds as great, buhuu!
Wild Lizzie! And I love your wine-glasses! (Though our wine... well, we are Germans, right. Wine is but for cooking here).
Love your artwork! And the lake-pics.
To health, let´s hope we´re back at that soon!
Such gorgeous sunsets, and I love your artwork. So sorry you are hobbled right now, but take it easy and heal.
I love your Montmartre painting! Can you walk with a walker or a crutch, something to keep weight off the affected area? In any case, healing is the most important thing -- there will be plenty of walking to do once that's finished!
Hello Jeanie,
I always enjoy seeing your sweet Lizzie, she looks a little annoyed or what. The deer are always a treat to see! We are seeing little bits of colors here, still a lot of green around. Thank you for linking up and sharing your critters and post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
The color was late for us this year as well. All because of the drought.
I love all your paintings. You are so talented.
Footrest is not fun! Prayers that all goes well and you will be up and about very soon.
Beautiful sunsets by the way!
I'm so sorry you have to stay off your feet. But you know it's best. :) This is a wonderful post. The colors of fall and the beauty there is amazing. Happy that Rick is able to get some ride in both on land and water. I am so impressed with your painting. All of them are brilliant. For the pumpkin how about Thankful and Grateful? I do hope you join in on the self portrait challenge. I know how ever you create your lovely face it will be a grand piece of art. Thank you for sharing all of this with FFO and enjoy your weekend.
Lovely art work ~ divine ~ lots of healing energy hugs to you ~ soon you will be well ~

Even with marginal autumn color your lake views and surrounding nature is beautiful and looks so relaxing. Fall in Colorado is always so beautiful but it doesn't last long--already most areas are finished, We are supposed to get our first frost tonight along our front range and foothill area so I have been busy bringing in all my potted plants and putting our fig trees in the garage, and mulching fallen leaves. Your watercolors are wonderful! You are an inspiration, Jeanie!
I do envy your autumnal colours - autumn is just a windier version of summer before we snap to the few weeks of winter.
The sunflower sprite is just what I needed to feel the happiness you spread. Take care of yourself sweet friend, Diane
Incredible photos from the lake, all beautiful but that first photo with the vibrantly red leaves is perfection. And then all show a lovely part of your area. Loving the sunset. Your poor foot! I am so sorry it is still giving you such a hard time. Hard penance enough not to be able to get out and about, very frustrating. Lizzy is very cute! Always enjoy your artwork and they are all lovely. Sending you lots of healing energies your way my friend and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Wow! The painting of Santa Claus looks amazing. And so is the cat photo. :) Thank you for sharing all this. It must be wonderful to be by the lake in this time of the year, the most colourful time of the year!
Beautiful tree at your cottage. Hope you heal well and can get around comfortably again before the snow flies.
I'm really happy with Montmartre. You painted it so beautifully... I love it.
The sunsets by the lake are simply heavenly... pure relaxation.
I wish you all the best, and Rick too, of course.
Best wishes from Viola
Sie scheinen keine Ahnung von deutschen Weinen zu haben! Aber es überrascht mich nicht
Jeanie, there’s no such thing as a bad day when you can look out and see the scenes in your last photos. Being immobile is a downer, but you have done some lovely paintings. As for the wording above ghe pumpkin, my vote is thankful.
love your paintings, you're very talented. Always remember, slow and steady win's the race when healing. Hang in there!
I enjoyer your photographic journey. That painting of the cityscape with the winding street is gorgeous too. Happy Thursday Art and Dinner!
Lovely art Jeanie -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
I adore all your fabulous paintings. They are fabulous. Enjoyed seeing Rick riding and kayaking. For you, wine is always a good thing with your meal. PLEASE take care of you and your foot. I'm a bit late visiting, but wishing you a great FFO.
So sorry to hear that you still can't walk and enjoy the beautiful autumn. Lovely photos though. xx
Those sunsets are simply lovely! X Jenny W
Your frustration is understandable. I'd want to walk around too. Here's to you getting all the way healed up. Looks like he really, really loves riding. That's excellent.
Your art is always joyful to see. Grateful seems a deeper meaning, but either is fine. I think this is just a timeout to reflect on life that seems to slip away too fast. Enjoy this different perspective. Lovely photos, but the one of Lizzie is so precious. She definitely has plenty to say.
I vote for grateful but either is great!
Our fall colors are very behind. We had terribly windy days the last couple of days so lots of leaves fell. I've seen some truly gorgeous trees on my walks, though. I pointed one out to the boys on a walk home from school the other day and Paul could not see it. I kept saying - it's right there, behind the stop sign and it's a gorgeous red color! I was worried his vision had worsened but we just had his eyes checked last week. Then I remember - 'doh, he's color blind!' And it made me quite sad that he won't see the fall colors like we can. I know there are glasses to correct for it so but until he's in contacts, they won't be possible for him. Will does not seem to be color blind, though. They both had a 50% chance at it since my dad is color blind.
Jeanie, I'm sorry you have to be off your foot! Surgery and injuries stink, even when necessary. There's a YouTuber, Trent from Trent & Allie (they were f/t RV-van life travelling South America but are now 99% working on their house in Utah), who just had to have his ACL in his R knee repaired. He's not excited about resting either! You might enjoy their channel and it'd be something new to watch/do while you paint, rest, and someone to vicariously commisserate with. :)
On a brighter note, the sunsets were lovely in this post!!! I shared your post at SYS #473 this evening and several photos to Pinterest, per usual. Last fall, when I fell and got stitches, the long-term affect was that my R hip had torn ligaments/swollen bursae. It has taken 8 months of slowly rehabbing, still walking but a lot less. I am just now back up to 2.5 miles/walk several days a week at 11 months. I hear you on the sitting around! And I hope your foot heals quickly!! Maybe sit outside and enjoy the days before the snow flies. <3
Many hugs for a quick healing and to a walking cast soon!
Barb :)
Your art is so beautiful Jeanie! I love your pumpkin and I would choose "grateful" though either word is beautiful. Your sprite is so cute! I was in Paris in the late 1990's and I visited the Montmartre area, with the very quaint markets and street vendors...it is a memory that I have locked in my subconscious so thank you for easing that memory out again, it was such a beautiful time! Rick sure is active, good for him! Before you know it, you'll be walking around like a champion again! Though I can definitely feel for you, being benched for now...♥♥
Since you've got a give thanks, I think I'd go with grateful or gratitude, but either works.
I'm really sorry that you aren't allowed to walk around - that would drive me crazy, so I can understand how frustrated you must feel. It's good that you make the best of the situation by reading a lot and painting. Your watercolors are beautiful. I think I would leave the pumpkin as is, but then I am not a big fan of any writing on beautiful pictures. So please don't count this opinion.
I know the lack of mobility is driving you nuts but hopefully time will pass quickly and you can be back on your feet again. Your postcard art is playful and lovely. You're quite talented! I loved the lake pictures with the sun's reflection - just beautiful. Cooler weather is coming, it's slow coming but that's okay by me. Before long it'll be too cool to enjoy outdoors. Have a good weekend, my dear!
