Globe Hopping

From my own back yard to the house down the street, the cottage up north and England, here are a few things on my mind of late!

The bird watching continues! And still -- no baby cheeps coming. Maybe they're quiet -- I don't think they have fledged, but who knows?

I love it when the two hang together!

All day long, they fly in...

...and out!

And, in the front yard, Neighbor Matt said farewell. The house has offers -- all they have to do is clear. Could new neighbors be any better?

Down at Rick's, our not-quite-so-little ones popped in.

There were plenty of smiles as they enjoyed some sugar eggs from Rick's mom.

And elsewhere in the neighborhood, an unusual skunk is making the rounds.

He's become a bit of a star on our neighborhood Facebook page. So far he hasn't hit our street, and I'm OK with that!

Up north, a few photos culled from Facebook of the damage from the tornado near the cottage.

This is the Panera.

At Culvers, an overturned car. The Hobby Lobby roof blew off and the store attached to it was leveled (in the background).

I'm not sure what this was, but it isn't anymore.

I've been laying so low at home, I've been taking some armchair travels. If I could be anywhere in the world at the beginning of June, I would be in London!

The good news is that I am finally off the PICC line and antibiotics and I hope much better! Rick and I took a picnic over Memorial Day weekend to an area park. After, we planted flowers at my parents' cemetery.

My friend Carol and I had tea to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. (More on this soon!)

It's hard to believe this remarkable woman has been on the throne for 70 years.

May she reign a few more.

  1. Hello,
Love the cute chickadees, they are fun to watch. I hope your new neighbors are nice and friendly. Cute captures of the grand kiddies. It seems weird to have a skunk in the neighborhood. The tornado damage looks awful. The Queen has such a lovely smile. Take care, enjoy your new week!

  2. My daughter once had a whole skunk family living outside her apartment building in Vancouver. All brings seemed to tolerate each other.

  3. Skunks are pretty creatures but of course smell pretty awful!

  4. Life looks good except for that neighborhood skunk. We had one that used to follow us on our walks, even with the dogs. Stinky stinky. I hope he stays away from your house. And nice chickadee photos. I love how you caught them flying into and out of the nest. Life's pretty good by the looks of it. The one good thing I can say about covid is that it has made us rethink our priorities in life. That's not a bad thing. Enjoy. hugs-Erika

  5. We thought a skunk was visiting our yard every night for a while, but we haven't sensed its presence in the last few nights. WHEW. Supposedly, they have a lovely sweet disposition and would make good pets except for the one downside. Their BO is the same even if the scent glands are removed to make them better pets. I hope yours leaves town.

  6. Happy Monday, Jeanie. I so hope you get wonderful new neighbors. A couple of years ago, we had a skunk that took up residence here. He was even sitting on my kitchen porch. You sure don’t want to frighten one and then have to endure that stench for days. The grands are so cute! I am happy to read you are feeling better

  7. I'm so glad to hear you are improving and feeling better. I know it's been hard to have to take it easy for so long. I may need to take some trips on my computer. It's too hot to go anywhere right now! Hugs! At least we have our books to read! Do you have a book post to share soon?

  8. A skunk, yikes! That's awful about the tornado, hope your cottage was safe...the boys are growing! Hope you get great new neighbors~

  9. Great news you are done with medications! Wow photos! The over turned vehicle makes the wind force mire real, and scary.
A mostly white skunk's beauty does diminish the closer it gets to one's home.

  10. Off the PICC line! WONDERFUL NEWS! I hope the antibiotics have done their work effectively.

I've been thinking of you throughout the Jubilee weekend. What a great party, worldwide really, if you count the Queen's Green Canopy of Trees.

Wishing you a lovely week - XOXO

  11. What a lovely little skunk! I understand her star quality! And yes, I am right there with you, Jeanie. London beckons. I keep checking out VRBO for autumn but have not come across the perfect stay yet. God save the Queen- we have been lucky to have been born in the same time as she!

  12. I hope the antibiotics helped you. I love your green, colorful neighborhood. So pretty! Yes, the Queen is a remarkable lady. Looking forward to seeing pics of your tea party. Gigi Hawaii

  14. The tornado damage is so sad to see! I hope all these businesses and homeowners were well insured. I know many people here in Colorado that lost their homes to wildfire have sadly found they were very underinsured and can't rebuild which is so sad. Prices on all construction have gone up so much right now.

My oldest grandson was on a school trip to Europe and saw some of the Jubilee Celebration for the Queen. It is something he'll always remember, the fortunate boy.

I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better--it sounds like you had a whopper of an infection, Jeanie. Take good care of yourself and heal completely ((9hugs)))

  15. So glad you are done with the PICC line drugs! What a long haul for you!

The pictures from the store are horrible! We've had some strong storms around us but nothing like that luckily! There were some terrible storms around my parents but they got lucky. They saw pictures of a home where the trees were pulled out of the ground then ended up on top of the house! How terrifying!

We saw a skunk in the woods on one of our walks at the lake last weekend. That is an animal I DO NOT WANT TO SEE!!!

  16. Goodness the tornado damage looks very bad.

So pleased to read that you are off the PICC line and antibiotics.

Isn't the Queen wonderful, a fabulous celebration for her Platinum Jubilee.

    Have a good week ahead.

    All the best Jan

  17. The destuction from the tornado is awful, so glad your cottage wasn't hit. The kids are really big boys now, nice to see them growing so confident. The royal celebrations were good, I enjoyed the parts I was able to see. Elizabeth has done a great job, that's for sure! Hope your new neighbour will be a good one! Hugs, Valerie

  18. Goodness, that tornado did some major destruction! I'm not sure about having a skunk roaming the neighborhood! We had a dog when we lived back East that got skunked and then ran through the house and hid under a bed. Glad you're feeling better, Jeanie.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh no.. glad you weren't near that tornado.
Never seen a skunk in the neighborhood before.

    ReplyDelete
  20. That skunk is---almost pretty. A skunk would pass through my old yard from time to time but we never bothered each other.

What terrible damage those storms leave behind. So sorry for the town and the business owners.

  21. I haven't seen a skunk in awhile.
That was quite the event overseas.
I hope you will continue to improve. You look wonderful. Good to get out for a picnic!

  22. Glad to read that you are feeling better, Jeanie, and that you and Rick were together on the recent holiday. The storm photos were so tragic to see, and it's always amazing to view the aftermath of often such a brief occurrence in nature. The Jubilee celebrations were quite wonderful to see in online accounts, It was a nice change to see people celebrating and smiling "across the pond" in light of recent events here in the U.S.

  25. The tornado near you brought so much damage; they are quite numerous now. I am an anglophile as well. I even remember listening to Queen Elizabeth’s wedding on the radio with my mom – that was in 1947! It dates me, I was 7 years old then. I also like to watch all the lovely hats she wears as well as her entourage. The last hat I bought was in London. I wish there were more places to wear fancy hats around here.

  26. Bird watching, I love it. I love watching them fly in and out of the houses or feeders. Tornado's are so scary and does so much damage. But what gets me as fast and hard as they hit, it still amazes me how it can wipe out a house but not even a shingle messed up on the house next door. Wicked things.

  27. Glad you are on the mend and a picnic sounds lovely along with the tea.
Yes it must be exciting I don't know if you know about Susan Branch from Nantucket she has lots of cookbooks etc. She took the queen Mary over to be there for the festivities so her blog posts have been nice.

  28. I love your review. Glad you are off the PICC line and antibiotics now.
The Queen celebration was so very special.
Always love seeing your nature, including the skunk, and your little guys.
Sorry about the damage near your cabin too.
    Enjoy the sunshine and outings.

  29. Yikes, that skunk! Hope it keeps its distance from you! Glad to hear that you are off the medication, and hoping that you are feeling much better.

  30. Great to see all "your" birds, Jeanie. Our chickadees left the nest box a couple of days ago and we haven't seen them since. Usually they hang around in the backyard for a while until they get their flight skills tuned up, but this year they seem to have left right away. I just hope some marauding cat didn't get to them. Years ago, before I met Miriam, I had a rural property on 50 acres, and a skunk lived right under the back door step. We left each other in peace and I am convinced we became very fond of each other! Sadly, most of the skunks I see now are roadkill.

  33. Birds come to my back window expecting me to open it and threw rolled oats for them. Its a huge treat!
As a 'thank you', I sometimes find near my entrance door, some leaves/small branches, and on them a..tiny egg. Unbelievable! The neighbor next door, couldn't believe her eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh goodness, a mostly white skunk! How interesting, I'd hope it stayed away from my place too, LOL!! New neighbors, might be good, I hope so!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your chickadee pics are amazing - those one of them in flight are just beautiful! Can't believe the damage from that storm! We've been fortunate that our storms have been pretty mild so far this summer.

  36. Jeanie, that tornado really did some damage, I'm so sorry to hear that. PANERA is one of my favorite places. They have the best cheddar broccoli soup. Your picnic sounds nice, and that's good that you took flowers to your parent's site. I really miss that, but my brother reassures me that he still takes flowers to our parents' site from time to time. Oh my, I've never seen a skunk in a neighborhood! I do hope that rascal doesn't come around yours. The boys are getting big, with cute smiling faces. Jeanie, I hope you do get good neighbors. That's so important. I was fortunate to get great neighbors on all sides up here. And those sweet birds keep coming around. They are the best neighbors of all. Thanks for sharing what's on your mind lately, Jeanie.

  37. Oh, I had a skunk for a pet when I was a teenager. De-scented, of course. Used to waddle behind me on a leash. You brought back memories.

It is amazing the queen has been on the throne for 70 years! That is a celebration for history!

So glad you are feeling better. :)

  38. Glad you're out and about a bit. The tornado damage is sad. The skunk looks interesting from afar - the farther, the better. All the birds look charming. The boys look delightful!

  43. Dear Jeanie,
I am so glad you are finished with your treatment, and I hope doing better. What a long journey that was.

The boys are so sweet, they bring a smile. I love bird watching also, and as for the skunk, I have an occasional one wander through my backyard. They are very pretty, but I would rather they keep their distance.
    Take care,

  46. Glad you are feeling better, Jeanie and able to get out a bit. The picnic sounds like a nice way to do it. Cute selfie! The tornado really did some serious damage! Wow! You really had a close call there. Yikes! So sweet to see the nesting birds in the cute little house. The boys are getting big, but still cute as ever. That skunk has quite the amazing hair-do. That's how I would look if I didn't dye my hair. Haha! x K

  51. Hi Jeanie, a lovely post! All the photos are great! Glad to hear you are feeling better. The little ones are so cute! We are getting new neighbors across the street in a couple of weeks. Fun photos of the little skunk making its way through the neighborhood and all the birds are darling. The tornado did a number on those buildings. So scary! I enjoyed your photos of the Queen and London also. The Jubilee was a great celebration of her 70 years on the throne. Enjoy the rest of your week and I hope it won’t be long before you feel 100 percent.

  52. Jeanie, I am so happy to hear you are feeling better and are on the mend.
Your little skunk looks quite happy in his new surroundings. I bathed many a dog in tomato juice when I was growing up after they had an encounter with a skunk. Tomato juice will take the unpleasant smell away immediately.
Those little boys are growing up too quickly, they sure are cute. And the tornado was dreadful. I am way more frightened of them than of a hurricane.

Wishing you a great week and perhaps next spring will find you in England.

  53. Jeanie, I am so happy to hear you are better and getting out. The grands are growing so fast, I know they help cheer you up after being home so much. Wow, what a wonderful celebrations for Queen Elizabeth. I saw a lot of photos and I'm sure it was exciting to have been there. I enjoyed all the photos of all the fun. Wow, I had no idea your cabin was so near the destruction of the tornado. I never think of your state when it comes to tornados. That was a lot of damage and I hope the homes and businesses will get the help they need soon for rebuilding. Continue to take care of yourself Jeanie.

  55. Hello, Jeanie! Between bird-watching and skunk-watching and visits from the littles, it sounds like there is a lot going on in your world. After seeing those pictures from downtown Gaylord, I'm very, very glad your dear cottage avoided any direct encounter with the tornado -- what a destructive devil! Hooray, though, for being off the PICC line and for newfound mobility/ability to get out. Cheers to you & the Queen! Here's hoping there are plenty of scones and tea in your future...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jeanie, I am so sorry that that tornado came through and demolished so many businesses there! I hope each of their owners are able to rebuild soon.

Your bird friends and that albino-ish skunk are adorable!!! Funny, when we lived over at Lake Skinner in California that last year, only the three dogs in campground C (where we lived) got sprayed by Grampa Skunk. GS was an ENORMOUS skunk, as large as our 20 lb. Yoda, who is a Pekingese/Lhasa Apso mix (and larger in size to the Lhasa Apso breed). Yoda wouldn't come out of our small trailer for about a month without us lifting him out and getting out on a trail for his walks/restroom breaks.

Great shots of the nuthatches going/coming to their little home! Enjoy the rest of your week!!

    Big hugs,
    Barb :)

  62. Well, you hit the emotional extremes this week ... love the birds. Chickadees are the best parents and they will bring their fledglings out to your feeders when they are ready to learn about the world ... and the kiddos are a hoot. I hope you get the chance to witness their antics. Always sorry to lose a good neighbor and the chances are your new neighbors will be fine because you will make them feel welcome and a new friendship will bloom (fingers crossed :). Your 'not so little ones" are adorable. This is my first time seeing them, though I strongly suspect that they would show up in earlier posts if I were to peruse them. Did you know that dissented skunks make great pets ... they are much like cats, though maybe not as aloof. The scented ones, however ... don't stick your head in any bushes, you might get a surprise. My poor little Izzi (our deceased dog ) got a face full that way and, though there is a recipe on line for a way to clean skunk... it doesn't work well and Izzi had to run in an agility trial the next day. Needless to say everyone walked wide circles around her. The tornado destruction is horrific. We have had some tornado's near us, but I have never seen destruction like your pictures. It must have been scary to live through. I hope there was no loss of life. And Finally, the Queen, in her yellow suit, how perfect for Rain's prompt. I agree she is an amazing woman and I too hope she will be around for years to come. Your pictures are wonderful and I can just feel the happiness that surrounds you. So glad you are off the PICC line and feeling better. MERSA is gone??? Sure hope so. Stay well, Jeanie ... Life is good!
