I have the most charming new neighbor!
I don't know if the Chickadee family have had their babies yet, but there certainly is a lot of action going on at Chez Chick these days.
Several years ago, my cousin Patty and her husband Dave gave me a birdhouse they had created. Dave built it -- it's wonderfully sturdy and quite heavy. Patty did the pretty painting on the front. I thought it purely decorative and left it on my plant ladder outside.
Well, apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks it's pretty!
These two are continually in and out of the house. I don't see them carrying twigs so I'm wondering if they've already settled and might be tending babies.
I couldn't resist making a little movie -- about a minute and a half -- of Mrs. C. dashing in and out.
It's such a treat to have them here.
Can't wait to see what happens next!

We have bluebirds nesting for the first time here and it is exciting

I love chickadees. They are social and very cute. They are even funny, and I feel like you can interact with them, unlike many other song birds who come around. Love the video of Chez Chick. That's a good name Jeanie. And it is a nice birdhouse too! Have a wonderful last day of April. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteHow fun! We used to have bluebirds create nests in a birdhouse when we lived in NC. It is fun to watch them feed the babies and then hoping catch the moment when the babies take flight!
ReplyDeleteHow adorable! They couldn't resist your pretty little bird house, they knew it must be for them!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Well, you definitely have the prettiest bird house in blogland! How nice that the paint lasted and you got such sweet birds to nest there. Enjoy your day! It is indeed Spring!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! The Youtube videos of chickadees building their nest could provide an idea of what stage your neighbors are at. I recently watched such a video. Birds are really fussy.
ReplyDeleteIf your chickadee gets any fatter she's not going to fit through the door. So cute to be able to watch them!
ReplyDeleteI never realized how similar North American chickadees are to the birds we know here in the UK as coal tits. And apparently they are related!

Hello Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteThe birdhouse is pretty, the chickadees are one of my favorite yard birds.
Maybe you will be seeing their babies soon. Love the photos and video.
Have a happy weekend!
Glad the house is now occupied by a beautiful chickadee family. Super nice video! Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! What a blessing to see those birds nesting in that pretty birdhouse!

ReplyDeleteJust dropping back to say thank you for linking up and sharing your post.
I just loved your Chickadee post. I hope you are able to see some Chickadee babies soon. Have a great day!
How brilliant to be able to watch whats happening with your new neighbours.
ReplyDeleteThey're darling (and so fortunate to have found such a charming house)! Looking forward to your next installment of The Chickadee Tales (tailfeathers?)...
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful sight, I love your new neighbours. Enjoy! Have a great weekend, and happy May, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteBe sure to keep us posted on their progress, Jeanie. In my backyard a pair of chickadees constructed a perfect nest, complete as far as I can tell, but have abandoned it. I have no idea why.
ReplyDeleteOh so sweet …what a lovely birdhouse happy weekend love Ria and Leaf ππΎπ
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute new neighbor - the babies must be adorable.
ReplyDeleteThat's really cute! How funny that they moved into a yard decoration!

Nice video! I just saw a pair of Cowbirds the other day. Never seen them here before either. Janice
ReplyDeleteHello. Lovely photos. Beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteYour wonderful birdhouse has fascinated the two. Happy Sunday to you and them.
ReplyDeleteI love the handmade and decorated birdhouse and the chickadee that has taken up residence. The name chickadee makes me smile and it's a sweet little bird.
ReplyDeleteChickadees are so cute. Congratulations on being host landlord!

ReplyDeletemovie review:short on plot, beautiful setting, charming lead character.
ReplyDeleteLove your movie of the chickadee! I have them at my feeder all the time and have wondered where they nest. I will try a little birdhouse. Your box is darling.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI've always had chickadees at my feeders, but they seem to have moved on, or perhaps they're only taking a vacation. What fun to have some setting up housekeeping in your neighborhood. I'm sure that aesthetics played a role in their choice of a nesting spot!
ReplyDeleteWhat a special treat to have guest such as these take up residence in this pretty bird house. I bet they are thinking the same and loving a pretty home. Loved the video too.
ReplyDeleteAwwww! They are so cute to watch! I hope you have baby birds on the way. :)
ReplyDeleteHow special to have the chickadees up close and be able to observe their evolvement. Love the bird house too.
ReplyDeleteOh, how exciting! We get chickadees this time of year, but they've never nested on the patio. I enjoyed the video :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Jeanie. I am so jealous. I love chickadees, they are the sweetest little birds. My bet is there are babies in that lovely home. You must stay at attention so we will know.
ReplyDeleteHappy May, my friend.
Oh I love you birdhouse and your renters. Do adorable. I have a birdhouse that was moms and its just sitting here. I thought about handing it but now I might paint it and then hang it. THanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteJeanie, the sweetest little thing. I hope they stay. We have a tiny bird house hanging outside the kitchen window for years and it has never even been considered fair housing to my knowledge except the other day we say a little all brown bird (I am not good at species) poking his head in and out of the door like he was feeding something and then another one flew out, which I am assuming is the mama. But now we haven't seen them for a couple of days but we are so hoping they will return. We have been watching Ozark on Netflix so we have named them Marty and Wendy Bird!!..Have a great week..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteTreat indeed, as is their house. While having any board set up house would be nice, you really scored with the chickadees.
ReplyDeleteJeanie, this was exciting for me to see that you actually had a chickadee rent this little pretty house. I can't tell you how many time I have put out a bird house with out any luck. Maybe one day. I really enjoyed the video.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
blessings,
Penny
Jeanie, I love your new neighbors and their new house is a beautiful abode. Enjoy their comings and going. Wishing you a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic neighbours to have, and a thrill that they surprised you by choosing your nesting box! It's a nice little video- I am wondering what the tinkling noise was ( a little ornament, I'm guessing?) And fun to hear other birds in the background.
ReplyDeleteLovely neighbors, Jeanie! Chickadees know how to pick the best homes for their families. Darling birdhouse from your friends!
ReplyDeleteThat is exciting! Who could ask for better neighbors! We had a robyn's nest last year. It was fascinating to watch the process!
ReplyDeleteCertainly charming!
ReplyDeleteI looked up yesterday and there were four small chickadees at my feeder! I think they may be new little ones from a nest in the cedar tree next door.
ReplyDeleteI love that beautiful birdhouse!
Oh fun! Is this bird house in an area where Lizzie can watch the action? I bet she would love that. Or maybe it would drive her crazy! Every time I hear about birds in a bird house, it makes me think of the book "The Best Nest by P.D. Eastman." That has been ready many many times in our house so gets brought up quite a bit! It's out of print so we had to order a secondhand copy through amazon. We read it for the first time when Paul got tubes put in at 9 months. It's about a bird couple that is looking for a new house.
ReplyDeleteIt has been great to hear the birds singing again. We've seen lots of robins in our yard as our lawn was aerated last fall. So I guess that makes it easier for them to get worms.
Chez Chick - love this!
ReplyDeleteOh, and it is illuminated! Wonderful and welcoming! Sweet movie, too - to cute, nice neighbors!
Love the photos and video, Lorrie.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a pretty birdhouse!
Happy Monday!
I quite like them visiting, and nesting nearby! What a treat!
ReplyDeleteI like the video, especially with the trinkling sound in the background!
To be honest, I'm glad you told us this was a chickadee. It's obvious I know nothing about birds. Sally fills her feeders then watches them. She bought a book so she could learn what each species is. I have YOU (grin)!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that sweet Chickadee. How delightful to have seen him coming in and out of the bird house. And that bird house is so cute. The birds make me smile, and I'm seeing more and more of them coming around now.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
New neighbors of the best kind!!! How exciting and lovely. I would probably watch them all the time. It will be exciting to see whether their will be little chickadees. I hope no cat discovers this pretty birdhouse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird house and so lucky to have a bird choose it for their nest :) Very sweet bird Jeanie
ReplyDeleteYou won't see them bringing twigs in. Their nests are made out of moss. How exciting for you to be able to watch them close up.
ReplyDeleteLove the adorable decorated house they've chosen. I love chickadees, and I hope they give you the enjoyment of watching their little family hatch. Have fun. So sweet and interesting to watch!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Hopefully the ladder is steady.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks as if everybody in the blogsphere likes chickadees! Cheers to you for getting such close-up pictures.
ReplyDeleteExcellent new neighbors!
ReplyDeleteAdorable new neighbours :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Sweet chickadee and cute birdhouse. I have chickadees at my feeders daily. Just love them.
ReplyDeleteHow fun!!! Jeanie, watching birds is just the best! We had Momma dove trying to nest in the large hanging basket outside our kitchen backdoor again. Again there was an egg and this time the baby hatched... But, I heard the local hawk again... I really don't know if the baby flew off with her or what, but no feathers were found, so maybe!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your sweet chickadees and their future babies!!! Happy to feature your post here at 10:30p.m. (fell asleep before I could finish creating SYS #345 tonight),
Hugs,
Barb :)
