Snow Day

Winter returned with a vengeance here in mid-Michigan. Over three days and several snowfalls we got about 14 inches of snow.

And it really looked beautiful till you drove around in it!

My journey to physical therapy took me by the Michigan State campus so I made a quick stop at the children's garden.

I think these look like Coneheads!

And no one wants to sit in the Butterfly chair today.

Is this a student who froze or a sculpture? Ah yes, I think I know the answer.

White sheep or tan sheep?

No one was taking a leisurely rest on the benches today.

And whoever was riding this? Bad idea.

All lovely. But it wears thin!

The snow was high on this tree at the physical therapy parking lot.

And even higher at Kroger!

I thought I'd take a quick spin by the Ditch just to show you what it's like in the winter. It's hard to believe that white space on the far side of the fence is water. Or rather, ice.

Pretty white!

No one was sitting on this bench either!

Right now the only ones who can get along the unplowed paths are skiers or snowshoe fans. Cross country skier Rick, on the other hand, is in seventh heaven. Meanwhile, I'm hoping my neighbor got his truck dug out.

It's a very good time to paint! (By the time this posts, we're supposed to have rain and 40 degrees. I don't understand winter anymore.) And thanks for all the nice comments on my Valentine post! Yes, I'll keep him!

  2. Beautiful pics, Jeanie. I'd like to get at least one good snow before spring. It's going to be in the seventies here today. I'm okay with that, too. :)

  3. Jeanie, I saw "snow day" on my side bar, and rushed right over. Oh, your post made my heart sing!! Such lovely pictures of the snow, and some very amusing and interesting ones, like the white sheep and the student sculpture. Yes, they look like Coneheads with faces! The icicles are beautiful. I loved seeing all your snow snow snow!!! Thank you for sharing your neck of the woods with us.

  4. I have enjoyed those photos thoroughly. The playground looks like a fun one...bet it bustles with activity in the summer.

  5. Wonderful photos. Here we had snow and then icy rain, so lots of accidents on the streets. Stay warm! Hugs, Valerie

  6. Oh my goodness! You weren't kidding when you called it a snow day! I can't imagine living with snow like that. When we get one inch here in Central Alabama, everything shuts down!

  7. You got a LOT of snow. We haven't had any this year, or rather what they called a "dusting" that was gone by sunrise. The photos you took were lovely, especially the coneheads, but I agree it probably would get old quickly, especially if you have to be out in it. Thanks for sharing these beautiful and rather chilling photos with us.

  8. Some of those scenes could be right here, although the last two days have been really mild and a lot of snow is melting. It would be better if it cools again for a couple of days to let this water get away and not cause localized flooding.

  9. Beautiful shots! The reader statue particularly appeals to me.

  11. It's all very beautiful. But I'm with you. I want to see Spring flowers. xx

  12. Beautiful photos, though they remind me not to move where there is a lot of snow. I got chilled just looking!

  13. I’m sure you are so ready for winter to be over. As you said, winter is so hard to understand these days. We are still waiting for our winter-like weather here. We’ve only had one snow storm to speak of. It was this past Saturday. They(the weather forecasters) are hinting at snow tonight. It was in the 50s today. Will it really happen? I hope so. We need moisture so badly.

  14. Wow you did get snow. Somehow we didn't get that storm (I promise I won't be grinning happily as I write that), but we might have one coming this weekend. I will say with the blue sky your photos look pretty, but 14 inches is a whole lot snow. I don't know about you but I am ready for spring I think when (not if) we get our next big storm I might cry. Not really, but I will probably scream. Hope you have a great Friday. Hugs-Erika

  16. Sitting in sunny California I enjoy your snow pictures very much. Even back in Germany I enjoyed sunny snowy days, but resented the gray days. I sometimes miss the snow, but not the driving in it and neither the shoveling.

  17. Oooo...the snow is pretty! And how sweet the children's garden covered in white blankets! What a fun place. But yes, the white stuff stops being fun after a while. We're back up to have 20" outside our door again. Every weekend for weeks now, we have a topping up of snow... LOL! Be safe, be warm... ((HUGS))

  18. Hello Jeanie, pretty snowy scenes. It is raining here today, I think the snow is prettier. Even though we need the rain. I love the snow covered sheep and the sculpture. Have a happy day and weekend!

  19. So funny how most everyone here would love to have a snow like this, it makes everything look like a storybook. Of course we can't drive in it so that's a problem. Hope your therapy is going well. Rain and storms here, no chance of snow. Have a wonderful weekend Jeanie........

  20. Gorgeous . . .
You have “bunches” for sure . . .
Snow and blue sky make for a great day, in my book!

Bet you are melting now ???

  21. Looked just like it looked here until drizzle yesterday! I just love icing on trees..meringue and whipped cream fairy land!

  22. Jeanie, I love your shots of the snow. I know that you tire of the white stuff, but it is so rare in the South that I love to see it. The ditch looks so lovely! We haven’t seen the sun in a week...rain, rain, and more rain! Have a beautiful day

  23. That is a lot of snow indeed. It looks so pretty but I feel cold just looking at it. Where is my cup of hot tea, lol? The white splendor is probably gone in the meanwhile but who knows, it might be back. Stay safe and warm, Jeanie! Have a great weekend!

  24. Our climate is seriously messed up, and no mistake. Climate change is real............

I don't know how much we got during those several days when it snowed every day. We already had a noticeable amount of snow before the day when it really snowed and we got 6-8"? on top of what we already had.

So glad it did NOT rain yesterday -- it's enough water for the land to accommodate when this much snow melts, let alone have rain on top of it!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Gotta admit I'm happy to be out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That is a huge amount of snow, something I've never had to deal with, you're a trooper Jeanie. I would have skidded the car off the bend at the first corner for sure. Wishing you a big thaw soon.

  27. We've seen snow like that, but it's not often, thank goodness! You're a tough cookie! And you captured the real beauty of it all - thank you! I can't think of a better way to enjoy the snow than to visit it. :) Happy weekend.

  28. Your photos are just stunning Jeanie. I have not seen snow like that in years and years. Not since before I moved over here. Not sure I could cope with it anymore! This country would be totally paralysed with only a fraction of that! xoxo

  29. So much snow, and I couldn't come play in it... *sigh*

  30. What a delightful children's garden - New Haven has nothing like it! And I want that butterfly chair in MY garden right now! I love it! LOL

Enjoy your warmer weather - we're finally getting it - but, alas with it comes grey skies and lots of rain!

  31. Loved going on this lovely adventure with you!!! I hear you about contrasts. Here the white, pretty snowfalls are brief, they turn to icy and rain...Lately a lot of bare spots. But to be in the snow with you in your photos: all beauty!

  32. Your pictures are lovely and the snow looks so pretty. So glad that I don't live there. I would freeze and never go out lol

    Hope your weather gets nicer.

  33. That is a lot of snow! You're much braver than I am so be out driving around in it like that. I hope it melts off quickly.

  34. We had a lot of snow at the end of January but February has been more quiet for us. The storm that hit you guys and Chicago missed us which I was ok with! I have to go to so many doctor appointments so the bad weather bothers me more (whereas before I was always taking the bus to work so didn't have to stress about driving in bad conditions!). We are supposed to get more snow on Sunday/Monday, though, but Phil and I are both off work for President's Day which will be nice!!

It was 40 here on Wednesday which felt amazing! It's cold again today but it will warm up a bit next week. I'm hoping the subzero temps are behind us very soon!!

  35. Those piles of snow are huge and amazing! Wow! The colors of the children's museum is so pretty in the white of the snow. That sheep put on his winter coat for sure.

We have daffodils blooming and the prediction of snow next week. I could be pretty, hummm? Hope the flowers are hardy.

  36. goodness gracious that is alot of snow! It was almost 80 here today, we had the air on in the car. Hope y'all have a real nice weekend!

  37. Yes, I know I belong here in N.M.! Snow is pretty, but after a day or so I am done! Nice to see though. Amazing! We have had a couple of gloomy days with a bit of badly needed rain. I'm ready for sunshine! I just get sleepy and lazy all day. You are just so sweet to visit me! Nice to get a word from you. You are the best cheerleader!

  38. Vengeance on us too, -20's weather for the next week! But not as beautiful as your neck of the woods. Not long now, just a few more weeks and hopefully we'll see Spring. :) Best time to read books and make art indoor.

  39. Good morning Jeanie!

Yeah, February has been a challenge out here too; we have had our share of snow and ice, but yesterday we got a melt. However, I think there is snow coming our way again! Come on, let's get spring started!

  40. Beautiful peaceful photos Jeanie. Here in the UK We grind to a halt with just a couple of inches of snow !!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jeanie, gorgeous photos (I especially love the icicles), but yes it, what did you say, wears a bit thin? I hope spring arrives soon!

  42. WOW...that was a lot of snow. Not sure what part of Michigan you are in but my brother and SIL was up there in Flint when I was house sitting last week. Your snowy pics are great. That amount of snow would shut Nashville down.

  43. Wahoo snow!
we are in the midst of a snowstorm. 8" today and it is still snowing. Looks like another 3+" so far... time for bed. I will most likely be surprise when I wake up and see how much snow there is. I plowed the road at sunset, will need to again in the morning. Winter is going out with a show!

    Your photos are beautiful.

  44. I love the sheep! That's just wonderful. But I liked seeing the piles of parking lot snow, too. Lots of memories there -- as well as a reality check. When I get too romantic about moving back to the land of ice and snow, I'll have another look, just to remind myself.

If I were younger -- like, forty years younger -- I'd go for it. Today? Not so much. :-)

  45. It is strange, until quite recently, maybe 5 years, I was right into heavy snow. I think it reminded me of my childhood in Germany. Those statues! So amusing to see the reader and sheep burdened under feet of snow!
But, just the last few years, I've decided I prefer it without snow, which is generally the way we get it here. We didn't really have the right clothes for a heavy unexpected snowfall in Amsterdam, but it was tough going, and I kept wondering if I was going to slip on the uncleared ice. I'm really glad spring is on the way! :)

  46. It looks lovely! I can't believe those snow banks.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh, goodness. Your images make winter look so beautiful -- and fun! I giggled at the frozen student and coneheads. I've been running the AC! Ack!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hah! Winter is beautiful, but I like it only in the pictures! :) Crazy, I know :)
This icicles photo is so artistic, I like kina macro photos like this :)

Riding bike in the winter - I also can't imagine to make it, but I know a lot of people who do it. Here in Poland when I drive a car I have to watch out while crossing the bike road during winter time, because I see a lot of cyclists!
I'm freezing every time I see them haha! :D
