Spring, Maybe? The Bunnies are Back!

The calendar tells us it is officially spring. I've got to go with that because otherwise, it's just too depressing! 

 

So, on a remarkably warm (60 degree) day, I headed down to the Ditch for a look around, For the most part, nothing had changed much since my last visit, but I did notice this unique pine. I'm guessing it survived the tornado but with definite scoliosis to its trunk. Still, it looks healthy, just odd. (NOTE: I stand corrected! Tom, who knows such things, says this is a spruce, not a pine!)

March Is Flying By -- The Bunnies Have Arrived!

It completely freaks me out that Easter is almost here! Two dear friends birthdays passed me by and I realized that today is officially spring, at long last! I sort of feel like I've been living under a rock!

It has been a good -- if busy -- month. Work on the basement persists, the next proof of my book has come and been returned with corrections and we had a great weekend with the grands. All good. The cataract surgery is back on the schedule and physical therapy proceeds well. I had a lovely belated birthday lunch out with my friend Kate on one of the nicest of days. There are even a few bunnies around the house!

Spring Is Breaking Through!

We are on the countdown to Easter and I'm looking forward to the invasion of the Munchkins! I even added a few more Easter things to the house!

Time to Bring Out the Bunnies!

It's hard to believe Easter is almost here and I still don't have all the bunnies in place yet! (But I'm close!) I'd better get on it because we're expecting the family for Easter dinner and an egg hunt that day so I want it to look right! 

More Bunnies

With only two weeks until Easter, it was time to bring on the rest of the bunnies! It may be frigid outdoors here in Michigan -- or not, we're on the seesaw season of Sprinter, no matter what the calendar says! But inside it's pretty cozy!

Early Spring at Home

Since it's almost spring (and friends tell me it already is meteorological spring -- I wish they'd tell that to the weather here -- we bounce from high to low) I figured it was time to spring up the house.

The Colors of Spring

When you live in the north and the colors you see for several months of the year are white, gray and dark branches against an often gray-white sky, there is nothing more pleasing to me than to welcome the colors of spring, whether they are in festive decor or outdoors! (Not that the house wasn't colorful enough with all those bunnies!)

So when I saw this post, I became inspired to paint my own eggs! (I wish I could remember which of my regular bloggers leaked to this post. Apologies -- if it was you, tell me and I'll link in!)

There really are no rules. I got the eggs a few years ago at Michael's. You want a smooth egg, not the shiny plastic ones that come apart to stuff for kids. If you get those, you'll need a coat of paint over them and who needs to spend the extra time? Then, using watercolor (which dries quickly) or the paints of your choice, even markers, just free form your favorite blooms or patterns!

Easy peasy and pretty, too. (You could also add a hanger for an egg tree!)

There are more colors than those on the eggs. My first trip to the nursery brought me face to face with these pansies that I couldn't leave behind!

Tulips have been a frequent companion as well.

Of course, the floral color isn't limited to "store-bought." My dwarf iris were the first to come up this spring!

Those were followed by crocus popping up in the most unexpected spots.

And then there were the mini-daffs!

Every year after buying bulb gardens, I plant them in the garden in the fall and they bring about such joy when they bloom! 

All that bright, cheery yellow! What's not to love? 

Even the birds were showing their colors!

But the best part about this spring is that I'm collecting long overdue hugs!

The visit of friends was short -- but since we were all vaccinated, we could be together mask-free!

So, find our favorite bloom, your favorite flowering tree, your happiest Easter bunny or brightest smile!

It's spring!

My House Is Being Invaded by Rabbits

It feels so good to start bringing out the Easter things! And not surprisingly, bunnies and Easter eggs  play big roles. And of course there is one cheery duck! Welcome!

Some of these bunnies are old friends. Others, like this cheery pink one, are only a few years old. She looks very happy with a little peat pot of eggs beside her.

Step a bit farther back and you can see she sits on the dry sink with a spray of forsythia and my egg tree.

Many of the eggs here were done by my mom and/or me as far back as the 1960s. It's hard to believe some are sixty years old!

Every time I put the egg tree up, I can't help but think of times making some of them with her. Others were bought a travel remembrances.

On the opposite side of the room, the fireplace mantel is a parade of bunnies!

I love this little moss one by my bird lantern.

I've had plenty of real tulips but these faux ones look pretty spot-on to me!

 I finally got my act together and spent some time polishing silver. I love the reflections and sparkle it adds.

A quick peek into the kitchen. Nothing much here apart from some cheery daffs and spring things!

In the living/dining, we have more bunnies. This one has lights, too, but they didn't photograph all that well.

M&Ms don't last long in the house but they're always there at the holiday!

I've been painting eggs, too. More on this later, but here's a sneak peek!

 

Atop the china cabinet, three of my favorite "Vintage by Crystal" pieces. 

This pink bloom was a long-ago gift. It seems to fit well with Grandma's silver teapot.

In the hutch, an few more bunnies.

I'll tell you more about the Lord Nelson tea set in another post sometime! I think it has found a new home here!

More bunnies -- and a hyacinth that will need staking soon!

 There will always be bunnies and blooms in the spring. 

And sometimes, even a wee, Parisian bear, one of my felties!

A Quick, Easy Spring Centerpiece

Do you need a super-fast spring centerpiece, perfect for your Easter table? Here's one idea!

Take your favorite basket -- I chose a long, skinny basket to go on my fairly small, oblong dining table). Pick a small plant for the center of the basket.This ranunculous was perfect.

Surround the plant with shred or moss. Place small bunnies and/or decorative eggs around the plant. 

I was happy to use my Pendelfin bunnies -- or at least a couple of them. They are "favorite friends" but when I set up the whole "scene," with their bunny house, it takes a lot of room so I decided to give it a break last year. (Here's what it looked like last year!)

 This little guy might be my favorite.

But I'd be having big eyes if I woke up to eggs almost as big as me!

Isn't it fun to bring out the spring things?
