Easter Weekend -- It was Eggcellent!

Easter 2023 is wrapped up and in the books for another year but it was such a terrific weekend, with kids, friends, eggs, good food and so much more, that I had to share a bit!

It started out with our annual Good Friday egg dying with friends Mark and Jan (followed by the traditional showing of "Life of Brian.")

I do some hard boiled (for deviled eggs) and color some raw so when I go into the fridge for baking I have happy eggs!

Saturday was prepping for the family invasion on Sunday. There was some egg stuffing for the egg hunt and of course, setting the table!

I was thrilled to find Peter Rabbit napkins. I don't know if anyone else cared, but I loved them!

The "Just Flowers" dishes by Mikasa were one of my earlier china purchases. My dad had given me a gift card for a store I loved back in the 1970s or 80s so of course I bought dishes!

The flowers were 99-cent pansies that are going into outdoor pots this week, and I used my Pendelfin bunnies along the way.

That night after egg stuffing, Rick made his gorgeous Challah bread (which deserved, but didn't get, better photo styling!). We made French toast for Easter breakfast and it was wonderful!

The family arrived in early afternoon and first thing on the agenda was to visit one of the neighbor's houses where they had set up a mini-golf course on the yard and lots of inflatable Easter things. I had willing models!

Then, after rescuing a bug with Uncle Greg, the put it on a tree and were fascinated to watch it climb!

Home again. Time for the egg hunt. Ready, set, go!

Adult help was allowed for a few tricky ones!

They were all over it! Look up, down...

...and all around!

They both made quite the haul by the end of the day!

Note to self: If a warm day is planned, don't set out eggs with chocolate, even if it's cool in the morning. Let's just say the Andes mints ended up in the fridge for a cool down!

Time to dine. This was a child's-eye view of the table after dinner!

Of course, there was dessert!

And a quick back-pounding is always a good thing!

Decorated eggs from Grandma Kitty were a treat. She makes them from sugar molds and fills them with candy.

She also sent Carson a belated birthday gift and he and Rick were working through this fun workbook for kids aged six and seven.

And then, cupcakes again!

All good things come to an end, and so did our day. With a goodbye hug and toothless grin it was time to say farewell.

Thanks for joining us for Easter!

I hope your weekend was wonderful with lots of smiles (and too much candy!)

  36. Your family Easter was full of smiles Jeanie, what a fun time for all! Your table looked so pretty, and how smart to use the pansies you are going to plant on your table first! The little boys looked very happy with their egg hunt baskets! Is there anything more exciting for a child than an Easter egg hunt? Even though my grands are getting older, Super boy is almost 15, he still went hunting!

  39. Your Easter table looks gorgeous, Jeanie! It is absolutely beautiful. And you all had such a great day! In Germany we always set out chocolate eggs, no matter the weather. However, we only set them out shortly before the search, so it wasn't a problem - only, if an egg could not be found which happened frequently. Oh well. We never had those plastic eggs, I only "met" them when moving to the States.

  40. Life of Brian is perfect for the occasion.

  41. Children make every celebration fabulous. Your two are so handsome and I know you and Rick are so proud of them. Your weekend sounds beautiful and happy, with a lovely time had by all!

  42. Looks like a perfect Easter celebration with family and good weather too, aside from melted chocolate candy. We celebrated in NJ with family and friends and my SIL decorated and set a lovely table as well. And, there was an egg hunt with only one child participant, our great niece, who found all the eggs with some adult help at times! We skipped egg coloring this year. Jeanie, I liked reading that you colored them raw to have happy eggs.

  52. Hello Jeanie, what a fun packed Easter post which made me smile. I love your plates, colourful table settings, and your silver cutlery. Your grandchildren had loads of fun searching for the eggs. My grandchildren are both in their mid thirties so I don't make died eggs any more, but we had a lovely family Easter too. Everyone arrived On Saturday and stayed until Sunday evening, and my Grandson Pedro is staying with me for a couple of weeks. I feel so blessed.
    All the best.

  53. Love the toothless grin! Paul will be in that stage before we know it!

Sounds like a wonderful Easter celebration. It's nice that you were able to do your egg hunt outside; that was not an option for us with all of the snow! The weather did turn out very nice that weekend, though, and now while we have been in AZ, it's been in the 80s! Such a bizarre stretch of weather but I'm here for warmer temps!

  60. Jeanie, something has gone wrong with the comments page on your most recent post, about books, and I keep getting a message that "that page is missing." So I am going to post my comment on that one here:

My brain is too tired right now to even think about your books, though the covers are enticing.

However, the irises grab me -- because I think they are identical to the dear, petite ones I have in my garden, which are so heartening in early spring. It makes me happy to know that we share these flowers. <3

  62. Jeanie, it looks like so much fun. The boys are certainly growing fast but still as cute as ever. Happy Spring..xxoJudy
