Autumn Pleasures -- and a Tasty Treat!

There's so much to love about autumn and this year I am savoring it all the more, knowing my great lockdown will kick in soon enough. (It actually already has, apart from essential things.)

While on my walk I was amused by this gathering of ducks across from the ditch -- and the sign leaning against the tree.

Someone has been leaving seed for the birds there. I like that person!

And this little bird has a "bird's eye" view of everything!

Leaves are tumbling at far too fast a rate for my taste! But they make a wonderful sound when you drag your feet through them.

The squirrels are scurrying with great abandon, hoarding nuts for their winter larder.

This year I feel doubly blessed, seeing gorgeous color up north early in the month, and then this color down state now.

I stopped at a pumpkin farm that was offering cider and donuts. There were crowds, but not at the cider stand so I masked up and got a treat!

I resisted the mums -- it was hard, but I did!

But they were incredibly lush and full.

But I couldn't resist taking some photos of the brilliantly colored gourds!

On the home front I've been cleaning the art room and baking a lot -- lemon bread, pumpkin bread and and apple bread. The house smells so good when I bake!

The clocks are changing soon and darkness will fall earlier.

Be careful out there. The virus is casting a long shadow. Stay safe and well.

  2. WOW what a pallet of color! Duck crossing is hilarious, pretty sure that they are not aware of "menu"- thanks for the recipes, I have made a similar cake "german apple cake" and it is so good that it could kill you!
LOVE the gourds, they grow in such expressive shapes- a possible something for you to paint?
Thank you for all of the eye popping photos- it is so grey up here!

  4. Michigan farm stands and cider mills are one of our best local places to go. Your photos capture the season's beauty in a wonderful way.

  5. Your posts are always so... comfy! I don't know how else to phrase it. Love all the gorgeous photos and I love the sounds of leaves crunching beneath my feet too. Thanks so much for sharing the delicious recipe. Enjoy the last of fall my friend :)

  6. You have so much beautiful color yet. I'm enjoying various blogs featuring the brightness.

  7. Your area is so lovely in Autumn, Jeanie. I love the photo with the red barn--so pretty. I've been resisting mums for a few years now as I still have begonias blooming their hearts out until a frost comes. It's late this year, but I'm not complaining. Stay safe.

  8. Fall is a really beautiful season, isn't it? That red barn with the mums is a fabulous photo. And taking photos of fall gourds and pumpkins and leaves...well it makes me almost giddy. Maybe it's all the colors the season blesses us with. And you have been a busy baker. Your breads sound yummy. I've never made apple bread so I think I will print off the recipe. Happy end of the week. Hugs-Erika

  9. No doubt, Autumn's colors and sights are a balm to the soul, especially during this period of anxiety and uncertainty.
    Thanks for sharing.

  10. This is a beautiful season for being out and about and enjoying the wonderful colours, and cider and apple bread make it just better. Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie

  11. ... and the sign has the title "MENU"!
Yes, the leaves fall like snow. Sadly here you cannot run through them like we did in the old days - dog poo underneath is too likely.
Awww, a sibling of our red "Peanut"-squirrel!
    Beautiful pics!!! All those colors.
Great when a recipe is passed on like that, too!
Yes, stay safe...! From Monday on "we" have lockdown. Ingo certainly drives to work...

  12. I love how you use your photos to show the beauty of autumn in your world. I would love some of those mums and gourds, too. That scarecrow is adorable. What a lovely, warm, and welcoming look at your area. Gotta' love slow duck crossing. Just adorable.

  13. This makes my heart sing! The Autumn leaves, in all their colours, are a marriage made in heaven with such bright blue sky! I love the pumpkins and gourds, and have to confess I would have scooped up a couple of 'mums in orange for my porch. I love the artiness of the last picture. Our clocks already went back.

    Stay safe and well!

  14. Hello, Jeanie

The fall colors are gorgeous, such beauty all around you. I like the barn, pumpkins and the pretty mums. The Apple Bread looks delicious, I would try both the apple and pumpkin breads, YUM! Lovely collection of photos. Take care, enjoy your weekend!

  15. I was interested to note that someone leaves bird seed around the area. Along the Mill Race Trail a woman does this every morning as far as I can tell, and not in order to draw the birds in close for better viewing, for she deposits the piles of seed and moves on, but seemingly is motivated solely by a desire to help wild creatures. It is encouraging to know that there are still such people around.

  16. If I think of quintessential America, it's always a picture of Autumn with the Fall colours, pumpkins, apples, mums and all that goes with that. The red barn, the roadside produce stalls, just so lovely, my favorite time of year and I got married in October. Lovely pictures and I love the ducks.

  17. I will try thr apple cake recipe this weekend. I am headed out for what I think may be my final senior hours grocery shopping this morning to stock up on baking goods for the duration.

  18. What is it about Fall colors that feel as if they are strong
and bold enough to tide us over until the Spring:)
Thanks so much for sharing - storing up for the Winter:)
Like Frederick (do you remember that children's book?)
Anyway, beautiful rays of color to tuck away for the gray days.
Thanks and happy Autumn days to you,
    Jennifer

  19. Glad you got to enjoy all the Autumn colours for so long because of technically seeing the seasons change twice. At least that helps it feel like it lasts longer.

Our clocks already changed. With us it's always the last full weekend of October, and the last full weekend of March. So ours changed last weekend.

  20. I love your colorful photos. You sure do love autumn, something we don't witness here in Hawaii. I love apple bread. The aroma must be heavenly.

  21. It has been a beautiful Autumn to get outside and enjoy here and I see yours was beautiful as well. We had Zeta make tracks through Alabama and left a lot of trees down and a lot of damage. We were fortunate here with only a lot of rain. It was so hot and humid up until the storm, the good thing, cool autumn temps now. I love to walk through the leaves and listen to the sound it makes. Beautiful photos Jeanie........

  23. Gorgeous photos. Loved the Duck Crossing;)
The foodie pic made me hungry. Think I'll go have an English Muffin with pumpkin butter:)
    Take special care.

  25. The color looks beautiful there! I love apple cider.

  26. Hi Jeanie, your colors are so beautiful. We finally have some turning in the neighborhood, but before I could even get my camera out, the winds took most of them off the trees. At least some remain as we didn't have any rain. The kids want to meet us somewhere for lunch. We haven't done anything like that yet so we are thinking about it. Some might laugh, but it is a big step, but I know you have done something similar and you survived so....we shall see..Stay well my friend..xxoJudy

  27. I love the sound of leaves rustling and crunching as I walk ...

  28. Now I want cider and doughnuts -- or, even better, cider doughnuts. I ran into that particular treat on my last trip to the midwest, and if you think I could work my way through a bag of those things, you'd be right!

  29. I love all the autumn photos. Beautiful view through the leaves to the sky.

  31. Jeanie, enjoy that true beautiful fall!! I would love to see it firsthand.

  32. Jeanie, you don't have to post this if you don't want to. I have searched your blog and can't find where you were sending people to someone who was a "New blogger" guru. I have a problem and Blogger community just sends me in loops.

    My question is:
I clicked on a link in a link party and instead of visiting the person I was linking to, it took me to my own blog's "create" page. How do I know my computer hasn't been hacked by someone or by blogger. I've had three different people tell me it's happened to them, too and now they no longer join link parties. I could use your friend's help or possible answers to this question.

  33. That Apple bread sounds so good! I am missing treats right now but will make up for it in December! We have so many green leaves on the ground thanks to our October snow. I am glad it’s a little warmer today - in the 30s now and will be around 54 this afternoon but it’s supposed to be very windy. Bleh. But next week there are 60s in the forecast!! Woo hoo!

  34. Great pics as usual. My view was crows flying this morning. Happy Halloween! Janice

  36. I love the beautiful autumn colors in your world! Zeta took the leaves off so many trees before they had a chance to turn, but we are still finding color. Thanks for sharing the recipe, Jeanie. Happy November!

  37. The photos of the fall trees ablaze with color are so gorgeous! Fall has been glorious this year, or maybe we are just appreciating everything more! And Fall definitely means baking with apples! My mums are spent but I enjoyed them so much. My son planted pansies and cabbages yesterday, I hope the squirrels don't eat them! Happy November Jeanie!

  38. Jeanie,
Beautiful Fall pictures!! We had our first killer frost and even a little bit of snow so my flowers finally bit the dust...This is the longest that I have been able to keep my annuals...I saved money on mums at least!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!!

  41. You have some lovely colors to see on your walks in your neighborhood, Jeanie. While lockdown is tough for everyone it is essential that we do get out from time to time to appreciate all the good there is in the world around us and the beauty especially. Thanks for the apple bread recipe as I was planning to make a loaf this week for a friend's birthday on election day!

  42. Gorgeous!! (And.... where'd you find all that sunlight? Could swear there's been nothing but rain and cloudy days for weeks!)

  43. Thanks for the recipe!
We awakened to horrific wind and snow this morning.
And did I mention, bitter cold.
Long ago I heard sharp frost, bitter cold, helps get rid of all the
    colds, virus, junk . . . I wonder . . .
    Stay safe Stay well
Did I mention, I am NOT ready for snow yet!

  45. Oh, how I miss our Autumns up north. There, we have the extreme seasons, whereas south they're not as extreme and don't last as long. Your apple bread looks Yummy, and with a dab of butter, even better. Oh, look at all those Mums in assorted colors! And I love the photo of the red barn with the Mums in front of it. That's an awesome photo.

I hope you have happy and healthy November days, Jeanie.
