The Shepherd

How sweet is the Shepherd's sweet lot!
From the morn to the evening he strays;
He shall follow his sheep all the day,
And his tongue shall be filled with praise.
For he hears the lamb's innocent call,
And he hears the ewe's tender reply;
He is watchful, while they are in peace,
For they know when their Shepherd is nigh.

I used to study William Blake but I never saw this poem. I love the little lambs photos. I've never been around any but they don't look mean or scary, do they.

HAHA....We have done somewhat of a easy move to spring other than a couple of storms but my area has been okay if we could convince Mother Nature to stop going from warm to cold and cold to warm. And lay off the RAIN! Oh my gosh....I really don't mind it so much unless I am heading to the barn. It is a hot mess and really muddy out there. Plus the horses love rolling in it.

That was really neat and I think I love the little black one most of all! I think my Mom had sheep and goats for pets when she was a little girl. Hope your week has a been a real nice one and what do y'all have planned for Easter this Sunday?

ReplyDeleteI remember working on a final exam over Spring Break years ago when I was working on my degree in English. One of the questions required an analysis of a work by an author we had studied in World Lit. As I recall, I wrote about The Tyger by Blake. I’d forgotten all about doing that final exam until I saw this post by you. That one question where I did an analysis of Blake’s work took at least 18 hours. I got an “A” on the test, and was told by my professor she’d never seen anyone do a better job on analyzing the poem. I just remember that Spring Break was spent working, working, working on a take-home exam. I need to go and dig out that work. I’m sure I have it somewhere.
There was a day when I did scholarly work. I am not that person anymore.

I hope this is not too curmudgeonly but it always strikes me a little ironic that we have this obsession with lambs and their cuteness, and their association with gentleness and religion, yet we have not the slightest qualms about eating lamb chops!

ReplyDeleteMy aunt and uncle raised sheep when I was young so these photos bring back memories of my childhood as I spent a lot of time at their farm!
