When the Cat (aka Rick) is Away...

...the Jeanie will play!

A week ago, Rick had a business trip and family time out East leaving me with a weekend all my own! It started with a wine tasting fundraiser for our museum where I tried lots of expensive things I'll never buy and a few I wish I could.
Then a Saturday massage. My massage therapist is a goddess, kicking out side pain I've had since I was sick with her healing hands. She's also one heck of a baker and gave me a Chocolate and Guinness cupcake and a minty green St. Patrick's day one that was to die for. (Wish I'd taken photos of them both!)
Lots of sorting and such -- more to do, but I made a good stab at it. And then out came the Easter!
It's always fun to bring out old friends.
In some ways, I don't regret having a few  bird houses that didn't sell this Christmas -- I get to "borrow" them from inventory!
Of course there are the bunnies -- on the mantle...
...and any other spot they fit!

Every year the chandelier gets lots of eggs hanging from it -- this year is no exception!

What doesn't fit on  the tree or the chandelier ends up in baskets!
It was also a day to do some art and get a good start on my egg carton swap.
Painting first... inside and out. Embellishments later!
I'll share more of that when I finish and get them off in the mail!
I also enjoyed a bit of bird watching with Lizzie Cosette.
(Well, she watched the birds, I watched her!)
I always miss Rick when he's gone and I'll be glad when he's home. But it did buy a few hours of extra time for play!

(And the best part, he's back -- so this past weekend we hit the theatre, cooked, chilled out. Two great weekends in a row!)

  1. It sounds like you did all the right things for yourself while Rick was away. I picture your house looking like an Easter fantasy land. I wonder if Lizzie takes an interest in the eggs hanging from the tree.

  3. Hi Jeannie,
First I must say Lizzie looks so sweet!
I love your eggs, they are just beautiful. You have decorated your home so lovey for Easter.

I am so glad you enjoyed the tour of Temecula.. Is is also Wine Country, although in all the years I have not made a trip there.. It is just down the road in the other direction.
    blessings,
    Penny

  4. So beautiful! I only wish the weather reflected the vernal palette you've assembled at home. If it's still gray and beige outdoors, at least you have poppies and spring green and sky blue to comfort you inside. It is all lovely.

  5. A delightful post! I think it's lovely to have the chance to potter about apparently without a great deal to do. (And sometimes, it's surprising what one can achieve without really trying - because it's fun)

  8. I still remember how good your last weekend was. Glad you've got Rick back and had enjoyed yourselves. What show did you see in the theatre? Also... do you have a birdhouse in use in your yard? is it decorated as well? Just wondering what birds do you attract with the colourful ornaments. ;)

  9. It's a testament to the strength of your relationship and of your spirit that you can miss Rick, but also have a lovely, delicious time when he is away! Good for you, Jeanie! And, by the way, Lizzie Cosette is beautiful -- a real charmer!

  11. You packed in some creative time! I read your last post and found out my fairy name – it’s Columbine Iceshimmer- quite nice. “She protects the vulnerable and brings justice to the wronged.” Fair enough. Well I brought my husband to the dentist this morning and they replaced his crown – so goodbye to my birthday lunch… I did not buy any food as I thought we would go out to celebrate – we may have to open a can of sardines…

  12. You and Lizzie Cosette had some fun. I like all your Easter decorations, and your egg carton swap looks interesting.

It's nice when HB takes a little trip but I'm always glad when he comes home again.

  14. Sometimes it's good to have some time to yourself, and it looks like you really made the best of it! Beautiful creations, and all the spring coming alive in your house must make up a little bit for the cold, grey skies outside :)

  15. Golly, you were busy. I’d probably have slobbed out over a steaming hot computer or a book. With a basket of Easter chocolates handy.

  16. Isn't it funny how we can enjoy playing while the "cat" is away, but then enjoy when they come back too.
Your playtime sounds like it was extra special. The plate under the cupcake is beautiful, the cupcake not so bad either. Glad the massage helped. Have never heard of embellishing egg cartons for an exchange.

  17. That cupcake looks almost too good to eat and the chocolate and Guinness one sounds even better.

It sounds like you had a fun weekend. Sometimes alone time pursuing solitary pleasures is perfect, especially when you know it's only temporary and your loved one will return soon.

I love all of your Easter decorations. I only managed to get mine out earlier this week, so I kept them to a minimum.

  18. My goodness - I vaguely remember thinking to myself, "This year I ought to hang some hearts on those dogwood branches." Then, we were long past Valentine's day and I thought, "I ought to hang some Easter eggs on those dogwood branches..."

Well, per usual, the branches are bare. So it's a darned good thing I have all your creativity and beauty to look at! And the assorted rabbits are precious - I always love seeing them.
