Welcome to October

I'm writing this post on October 2, even though it won't go up for a couple of days. It's rainy, gloomy, dark, and a little cold. Our fall isn't quite so brightly colored as these photos yet -- they're from last year. But it's getting close.

Later this afternoon, I'll go to a Halloween art show and tomorrow an antiquarian book fair. My art table is a mess and looming show deadlines hang over my head like a dark cloud. I feel overwhelmed.

And today's my Dad's birthday. He would be 95 today. I can't get my brain around that.

I'm always upsy-downy in fall. Almost euphoric on a perfect day; withdrawn and introspective on a day like today. By the time this goes up next week, I may well be bouncing off the walls with energy. Let's hope so!

  4. I hope you're feeling better. Last fall was full of mixed emotions for me. I'm feeling regenerated again this autumn. I'm thankful for that. I hope you find your wonderful energy soon. hugs.

  7. Lovely photos. The last couple of days have been beautiful, so I'm guessing you're bouncing. I find something very energizing about the crisp temperatures and the golden slanted light of autumn. In fact, the dreary, rainy days of early fall are calming, but I have to admit that only lasts through October for me.

  8. Gorgeous energy around here today -- hope you're feeling some of the same.

My problem with the changing season and cooler temperatures is that it makes me feel like starting new projects -- I've bought the fabric, bought the yarn, bought the books I want to read, the bulbs I want to plant -- but I only have just enough time to keep up with my daughter's new fall schedule. Drives me NUTS!

  9. I can relate to this post. I am the same way in the Fall. Upsy and downsy. But we have been have some beautiful Fall weather. It's been over a month since we had any rain. It got pretty cold here the past few nights. Had freeze warnings but it didn't hurt my plants that are still outside.
Hope your having some pretty weather now.

  11. Dear J, I wrote a long comment full of this and that (including my usual chatter) and compliments and praise for the leaf pictures even tho' I'm more of a summer person but one on whom the "fall" colors look better, but anyway, my comment? Wordpress ate it up somehow while I was trying to post it!!!!!!! aaarrrrggg. Drives me nuts sometimes, especially when I haven't dropped by in...well, several days. I just haven't been online.
So, I was glad to see your pictures and hear your truths and hope all is well, and WHEN shall we get together? Will it be November or more like February? I'm good with either, and no pressure, but hey, we have to do it, we have to have our blog meet-up.
    more later--
shivering a little bit in the cool autumn air, Oh

    a wonderful weekend.
