  1. That is hilarious - your cat is very patient - although if looks could kill!! You have really embraced the festival. We don't have it in Australia - where did the festival originate? Why do you celebrate it?

  5. A couple of you asked about Halloween and its origins. Instead of taking a chance at being wrong, I went to Wikipedia (which could also be incomplete, but easy!).

Here's a VERY cut down version:
Halloween (also spelled Hallowe'en) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints. It is largely a secular celebration but some have expressed strong feelings about perceived religious overtones.

The day is often associated with the colors black and orange, and is strongly associated with symbols like the jack-o'-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

Halloween has origins in the ancient festival known as Samhain (pronounced sow-in or sau-an), which is derived from Old Irish and means roughly "summer's end".Similar festivals were held by other Celts . The celebration has some elements of a festival of the dead. The name Halloween and many present-day traditions, derive from the Old English era.

Origin of nameThe term Halloween, originally spelled Hallowe’en, is shortened from All Hallows' Even – e'en is a shortening of even, which is a shortening of evening. It is now known as "Eve of" All Saints' Day, which is November 1st.

  8. Happy Halloween!!! You certainly are more accepting of having to wear a costume than I am!!! It's a silly human custom that we cats hafta put up with!! Thank goodness Halloween only comes once a year!

  10. OOoooo...I loooove that china? cat with the candy corn whiskers!!!! I would kill for that! Where did you ever get so many cat halloween decorations? I'm like Beth, I didn't put anything out either, we are too remote to get trick-or-treaters, and my kids have outgrown it. Your Gypsy has the same arrogant pissed off look as my Possum....that's why we love them isn't it?

  11. So charming! And I love The Gypsy -- hope she received a well-deserved reward.... or at least that she doesn't know that you're showing off pictures in anything less than her usual most dignified state. Hope you're looking forward to a wonderful Halloween!

  12. Where the hell do you get all this stuff???

  13. Please tell the Gypsy he's the finest, handsomest Halloween cat ever! What a sweetheart with that hat on. And how patient with his photographer!
The house looks awesome, Jeanie - thanks for sharing your Halloween themes with us.
(I spent time getting a slug out of daughter's pumpkin which she took such care in carving. She was shocked and disgusted to see the critter in there.
But since I've been kinda blog-blocked, I may imitate you (sincerest form of flattery) and take some pictures of Halloween around our house!)
