Postcards from the Lake: A Colorful World

In all the craziness of the past few weeks, I never got this posted! So before a color tour is a thing of months past, here are a few photos from my last visit to the lake in early October.

We've seen little color down-state. But it was both starting and then peaking during our time north.

I loved seeing branches pop out on the sides of trees -- the first real signs!

These are gone now, but oh, that park of yellow from the late blooming sunflower variation!

Rick and I took a mini-color jaunt up to one of the local ski hills. Rain was expected so the sun wasn't out to add brilliance to the color but the view was spectacular.

If you haven't been to a ski place to take a look at fall color, try it next year! The height of the hills adds drama to the view!

As you can see, the clouds were coming in. Rick and I decided to sit on the porch and watch. For awhile we were enjoying our beer and the day. But...

Pretty soon the visibility narrowed and we could hear but not feel pounding rain!

And soon enough, it hit us! We headed inside. And we were glad we did!

But it was a wonderful way to enjoy our last full afternoon up north.

I'll have one more postcard to wrap up our summer, now that it is almost November! Boy, I'll miss it...

  1. Beautiful captures of autumn! It must be a glorious ride up the chairlift during this season. Sometimes colors come out better in photos when it is overcast. There is quite a bit of color brilliance in these photos!

  2. Such lovely fall colors, Jeanie! It's true that seeing many trees from a height increases the impact. I think our fall in Colorado has been one of the bestas we have not had a long hard frost or snow as yet, which is unusual for October here. That might change with a storm headed in from the west coast today.

  3. Gorgeous fall photos. Nothing like fall with it's explosion of colors.

  4. Fabulous colours, Autumn is such a beautiful season! Have a great week! Hugs, Valerie

  5. The colors are really improving here, but the intensity of the reds in your photos is incredible.

  6. Oh wow, those leaves are so vibrant!!! Great idea in going to the ski slopes to see the colors in the Fall. I’ll remember that next year. Thoroughly enjoyed your photos, thank you Jeanie :)

  7. Those brilliant colors are stunning. I so enjoyed seeing these hills with their reds and yellows. This was stunning. It was picture postcard perfect. You two had a brilliant idea to take a chairlift to see the leaves in all their glory. Wow, you got inside just as that downpour occurred.

  8. What a great way to see the colors! And they are gorgeous.

  9. I literally sighed when I saw these photos. I don't know that we'll have a colorful fall...so far, our leaves aren't turning much down here.

Thanks for sharing. Fall leaves are so lovely: They're a favorite of mine!

  10. You had such vivid reds! I love the boat photo.

  11. Jeanie, the colors are incredible at the lake this time of year. You have
the oranges, golds, AND reds! We have mostly the oranges and golds here in
the mountains, but I've been seeing reds also. Now, do you get that same color at your house as well? I like that upside down boat photo. And the
yellow flowers are so pretty. The view of the hills and the trees is like
a post card. So beautiful Jeanie.

  14. Spectacular color! I love your idea of going to a ski slope to view the foliage, Jeanie. I'm glad you could enjoy a lovely day even though the rain came.

  15. Your fall colors ended up being much prettier than ours. You have some wonderful reds and oranges. I'm glad you shared this because its nice to see the colors while you're in the season for them. Have a great middle of the week Jeanie. Hugs-Erika

  16. Your trees are turning so much ahead of ours, so it is a treat to see your photos, Jeanie. Time at the lake will be scarce for us during the holiday season but I hope we will be back for some quiet time come January. A perfect time to organize and deep clean (as in getting all of the sand out of the furniture cushions!). Is your home year round?

I so enjoy your posts. Keep it up., my friend. I have found it to be a great diversion from everyday life. 😊

  17. We never have fall colors like that where I live -- they are so brilliant they almost hurt the eyes. Glory to God!

  18. Hello,

Wow, the Autumn colors there are beautiful. Gorgeous trees and views. It is mostly/brown/green and rust here. I love the sunflowers. I am glad you had a great day until the rain. Take care, have a happy day!

  19. Our colours have not been at their best this year, and rain has often battered the leaves from the trees. The great exception has been the maple in my backyard, that turned a glorious red and thrilled us for about a week. Now, it is mostly bare.

  20. What beautiful colors! I love fall. I love everything about it, the colors, the slight change in light, a different crispness to the airs. These pictures were wonderful. Thanks for sharing such a treat!

  22. love the Fall season. Michigan color is so awesome. I miss my days in North Conway NH and my property B&B I owned. Lots of trees and awesome color. thanks for your lovely photos. Our NM mountains, about 2 hours away are in color, but in Las Cruces city not so much. and the beer looks delicious.

  23. Autumn, in it's glory, my favorite time of year! Rain or no rain a spectacular view for you to enjoy. We are still for the most part enjoying summer, green everywhere with only a peek of color here and there. We've had a few cool mornings to enjoy but usually mid November for full color. Lovely post.....

  24. Glorious photos, the rain on the window looks like an abstract painting.

  25. Beautiful photos! I love the fall colors.

  26. Beautiful. Your autumn sure is more colourful than ours! Most likely reason is the rain, we’re very dry here… and of course we don’t have maples here, so not much red. Nice photo of the rainy window. 🙂

  27. Such beautiful color Jeanie. Great idea to head up to a ski slope to take in the fall landscape.

  28. I love those autumn colors! I lived in NYC 1970-1975, but never saw colors like those in the city. Too bad I didn't have a car so I could venture out into the country.

  29. Autumn colours are just so beautiful.
Love that photo of the rain from indoors. Such pretty photos Jeanie :)

  30. Your colors were magnificent. We didn't have so much red this year. Many of the trees were attacked by gypsy (LDD) moths this year. Apparently it is going to be worse next year.

  31. That first photo says it all - magnificent fall color! You captured the colors magnificently - love the sunflowers too. Glad you enjoyed your trip and I thank you for taking me with you.

  32. Such evocative pictures. We have nothing like your fall colours here so thank you for bringing them to us, Jeanie.

  33. It's hard to ignore the colors, and yet I take time to think about the element of water, the Lake. Would it behave itself as we gallop into Climate Change with fierce storms and heavy rains?

  34. You know how much I love fall color, and your foliage photos never fail to please. A front came through today which at least has dropped our humidity. It's not enough to create any color, but it certainly has produced some smiles in the neighborhood.

  35. I love this post so much!! It looks like a fantastic, beautiful day. And all the flowers and leaves! Beautiful!

I wish I was brave enough to go on a ski lift to see the trees that way. I would have to be heavily drugged, I am terrified of heights. Just thinking about it makes my heart race. LOL. Your pictures from on high are gorgeous.

  36. That foliage is glorious. The ski hills jaunt sounds like all kinds of fun. Love the leaves in the rain photo.
    Take special care.

  37. Love especially the pic of the ski place (I would never get into such a thing, though).
    Ohhh, the rain! 🧡

  38. It was our hope that we would see fall color during our trip to Arkansas, and, happily, we did. But it was nothing like the amazing color you get there!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Just breathtaking! What a magnificent spot. The leaves here usually peak around Halloween, but we're not even close this year. Most around my house are still green. I'm waiting, patiently!

  40. Wow! Those photos are gorgeous!! I feel like our fall colors are a bit muted this year, perhaps due to the draught we had this summer? I haven’t seen anything close to the beauty you are sharing in this post. So thank you! Fall reminds us that there can be beauty in letting go. That’s what I think about when I see the leave change and then fall from the trees.

  41. Jeanie, this is such a beautiful post, and I have to say reminds me SO MUCH of the Appalachian Mountains where I lived in Quebec...So beautiful! And cheers! That beer looks delicious!! ♥

  42. Jeanie, I know you will miss being at the lake. It is so beautiful and that color on the leaves - I believe I would have to stay until the last one fell.

It has been dreary here the past couple of days, but it is feeling like fall.

Have a great day and weekend.

  43. Oh, Jeanie, what beauty. There is not much that I would trade for California, but the changing colors would be at the top of my list. We have them but not as vibrant as where you are. Our street has some pretty trees but it seems the rain always comes and wipes them out before they are really enjoyed. But, I am not complaining..Enjoy your last days at the lake..xxoJudy

  45. Our leaves never changed over here. Weird Autumn and not sure how Winter will be now. Janice

  46. your fall photos are absolutely exquisite. I don't think our a quite so vibrant and colorful yet. They are just beginning to change and we've had so much rain, they are mostly on the ground.

  47. Jeanie, what beautiful fall color on your last visit up north. We haven’t seen much color yet, but ours usually appears in early November!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jeanie, I love your beautifully composed photos! So glad you and Rick got in a mini color jaunt. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  49. Wonderful colours. I should go for a walk in the woods, to see if they changed a bit. Although with the rain we have this morning, it might not be a good idea, as I don't have a pair of wellies. :)

  50. I am late to seeing this post, jeanie, but whjat lovely colors you captured at that ski area, even better than any we saw on recent road trips here in new England, so spectacular. Glad you made it inside before the rainstorm as well.

  51. Love your colors...we're still only starting to get those reds here, while the yellows have peaked, so this may not be the best year for color pictures from the Blue Ridge Mountains.

    ReplyDelete
  52. What stunning color! Our tree are just beginning to turn, it's hard to keep eyes on the road while driving around!
