Here's to my Mom.
She loved me as a baby...
...and she loved me till the day she died, with all the hopes and pride and worries that I think most moms probably have.
She adored her mother, too -- the grandmother I never knew. She died five months before I was born.
But I think of her as a beautiful bride, one who gave us not only my mom but three aunts I adored.
Here's to my great grandmother, the mother of the gran above. No, I didn't know her either. But I have learned so much of her story in my genealogy research, even visiting the church where she was christened in England.
Here's to my dad's mom. She was lovely, wasn't she?
And she was a terrific grandma, teaching me about life on the farm and giving me a passion for baking.
She loved to laugh. And I loved her.
Here's to all the moms, past and present, the ones we knew and the ones we didn't. And if you are a mom, Happy Mother's Day.
What a wonderful tribute! I love seeing your family photos.
ReplyDeleteThat was lovely, Jeanie! You have so many old photos! I love seeing them. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteI envy you for having got their photos.
ReplyDeleteI never knew any of my grandparents and have no photos of them.
I know , however, from the many stories told to me that the women in the family, the mothers and grandmothers were strong, loving, capable 'pillars' of family strength and unity.
They're great people!

Jeanie, you have so many wonderful photos of you and your mom. You look just like and she was certainly lovely! I was most fortunate to know both of my grandmothers, one died when I was 15, the other one when I was 23. Wishing you a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteIt's so fascinating to learn about our ancestors. You are lucky to know so much about your maternal bloodlines and to have photographs. Beautiful and profound. How much of them do you see in yourself? Happy Mothers Day.

ReplyDeleteA wonderful tribute, Jeanie!
ReplyDeleteThis was a wonderful Mother's Day tribute to the moms in your life, Jeanie. I also did a post today but mine was more on the back story of how the day started. I also didn't really know my grandmothers.
ReplyDeleteGreat tribute! Happy (kitty) Mother’s Day to you!
ReplyDeleteTo all of those who have nurtured us, consoled us, and helped us find our way. Happy Mother's Day (and thank you for this lovely tribute to yours...)
ReplyDeleteYou have so many wonderful photos of your parents and grandparents! You are so lucky! Mother’s Day can be such a hard day for many. So many are grieving the loss of a mother or a difficult relationship with a mom. Others are grieving the loss of a child or inability/challenged of becoming a mom. It feels like a heavy day for so many. I am very lucky to still have my mom in my life. I also have my paternal grandmother (my one living grandparent). She is 97 and I talked on the phone with her this morning. She is in good health and sharp as a tack most days which is another blessing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother’s Day to you - you have a special roll on your grandson’s life and I am sure they are so thankful to have you!
What wonderful memories of the mom in your life! Janice
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. I wish I knew more about my maternal grandmother as a younger woman, and her mother as well. My paternal grandmother's life was an open book I often wish I hadn't read.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this post of family photos and the women you loved and those that came before you. What a blessing to have those wonderful photos. Happy Mother's Day- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLoved your post and photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother’s Day Jeanie . . .
I loved seeing all of your old family pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo very lovely Jeanie! Those were the days...
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet, dear post Jeanie. I wish I'd know more of my family...Lately I think of the one grandmother I did know...I'm sad that we didn't connect more, even though we lived in the same house. There were reasons way beyond my child's knowledge and control...still...Lots of love in your photos and writing...
ReplyDeleteLovely ! hope your Mothers day was wonderful
ReplyDeleteThese faces are so evocative... I would like to have met all of your women ancestors. I'm so happy most of us have photographs of the later ones. They are a treasure. Thank you for sharing your people!
ReplyDeleteSoooo SWEET! What a lovely tribute to the women in your life, Jeanie! And how beautiful your grandmother's wedding portrait! And how pretty your Dad'd mom too... BEAUTY runs in you, in your family... :) Hope you had some online chat time with your baby grands?! ((HUGS))
