An Annual Event -- Greens and Gardenviews!

The annual start to my personal Christmas season is the holiday greens market in the charming town of Northville, MI. (Cue the music!)

For at least ten years, and probably a number more, my friend Jan and I have ventured to the market on the weekend before Thanksgiving, select our wreaths and then enjoy shopping in our favorite shop, Gardenviews, before lunching at Guernsey, a local restaurant, and stocking up for Thanksgiving at Trader Joe's.

The market is always packed with a terrific selection of wreaths and arrangements, along with greens for decking the halls. On this day, the weather was reasonable -- that is, not too cold, definitely not damp but not so unseasonably warm it doesn't feel like Christmas!

This booth looked almost empty by the time we left!

Santa is there and the town square is festively decorated with a huge tree and lovely arrangements.

Across the street, the theatre had a live children's show playing. Honestly, this town looks like something that fell out of a Hallmark movie!

Once we had our greens safely tucked away, we hit Gardenviews and if we weren't in the holiday mood, we would have instantly discovered it right here in this magical world of tinsel and lights!

I always love seeing what's new this year. I always think I've seen it all, and then something will pop up that is just so darned cute, I smile. Big smile. Lots of teeth and happy eyes!

I was pretty good about buying this year, but I did capture a few felted creatures to inspire me with my own. Even though the style is different, you can always learn!

These super-sized ornaments wouldn't work for my tree, but I loved them!

And there's something about the word "Believe" that always captures my imagination.

I came really close to getting this -- I love chickadees! But again, too big!

Our shopping trip came to a close and soon it home where Thanksgiving would await.

These little Campbell kids have been in the family since I was a child. They used to have hats but I gave them to the cats a long time ago and they seem to have disappeared. Good thing that was before Lizzie's time!

If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a lovely holiday! We did!

Now, on to the next!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

  3. Plenty nice and fresh wreaths! I got a plastic wreath with lights from Home Depot last year. I am thinking that I'm going to reuse it for this year :)

Exactly! Seems in Hallmark movies! I like Hallmark movies though. The stories are light, romantic, and sweet ending.

  10. It's definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I love it all! The chickadees are so sweet, as are the tiny mice. Adorable and more is definitely more at Christmas.

I am so far behind. Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. We had a white, wonderful one, and hope it will be again on Christmas..xxoJudy

  14. That outdoor market for greens and wreaths is a wonderful idea. I've never seen anything like it around here. Love that story, too.

  15. It really looks like it was quite warm there. Everyone is dressed quite lightly, but I am sure no one was complaining.

  16. Every year you head to that market and get greens to die for. But this year you shared so many tabletop trees that I kept going back ad looking at. What gems. I would have purchased at least two of those. Ho, Ho, Ho indeed.

  19. Those Campbell's kids are certainly cute. I have a couple of soup spoons with them on them that were in my family since I was a kid too. They are slightly worn but have now been retired to my little spoon collection. And oh greens. They are always one of the prettiest parts of the holiday-as well as that cute little mouse tree too. Hugs-Erika

  20. Jeanie, the market is wonderful with all the beautiful greens to use in decorating! The felted ornaments are darling and so sweet on the tree. I love your Campbell kids--I've never seen these cuties--so adorable. Have fun decorating!

  21. I can see how you love this place - it looks perfect for you! Have you decorated your house by now. Maybe you can knit/crochet or felt little hats for those Campbell kids? I love all the supplies for making your own wreath. I just buy a wreath at Trader Joe's, put a candle in the center and that's it. I'm not really talented in making wreaths, but it must be nice being able to do it.

  23. Jeanie, what a magical outing to get into the Christmas spirit. The fresh greenery and the twinkling shop were both amazing. I do not need any more Christmas decor, but it is such a temptation!

  24. Lovely Christmas offerings at the market and at your home. The boughs at the market are an intense green. So pretty. I saw they were selling these boughs and holly at my local grocery market. They usually bring in poinsettias too but you can buy these in multiple places thankfully there is a lot of choice. Those little Campbell kids are so cute. I don't think I've heard of them unless I read it on your blog last year. How do they come by the name Campbell kids? Last but not least, thank you so much for your lovely words on my blog. They touched my heart. All the best to you as you prepare for Christmas.♥♥♥

Yes, "believe" - I wonder if my Nieces still do?
Our Dad sent us upstairs so Santa could bring in the pressies. He then rang a bell.

  27. Love, love, LOVE! Oh my, that huge arrangement in the town is outstanding! The greens of the sale so beautiful, and the Gardenviews store inspiring. Love the felties. Jeanie, I could see that large chickadee ornament as a center of wreath for a door. It's beautiful. Oh my, how I love Christmas.....

  34. Your day was a lot like my afternoon on Friday with my mom and SILs. We went to an 'idea house' that was decorated for the holidays. It was incredible! They redecorate the house for every season. I've never been before but intend to go back when it's decorated for Easter. We also looked around the massive greenhouse/home decor/gardening center. My mom helped me pick out embellishments for the planters for the front steps and my 2 window boxes. She helped me decorate them on saturday before they headed out. I forgot to take pictures but they turned out beautifully!

  37. Jeanie, Oh, my, how I would have enjoyed this little trip of yours. The greens were gorgeous and would certainly provide the holiday spirit for anyone. I also love chickadees and the ornament was lovely. I know Michigan must be gorgeous this time of year. Thanks for sharing with us your lovely part of the world. 🎄

  38. I need to get out and find some greens! I use faux a bit for convenience, but it's not Christmas until you can smell evergreen. A fun shop like this thrown in would be lovely too! So nice to have a comment from you! Enjoy the season!

  39. I love the tinsel shots.
Have a great one, my friend.

  40. It certainly seems like the holiday season was in full-on mode, Jeanne. That a lovely collection of greenery outdoors in the market and then all the wonderful holiday decos inside the stores. You and your friend started off the holiday season with a very festive outing. I agree that the ornaments were lovely but way too large for me as well.

  41. This market is a lovely place to find greens for Christmas. Love that clock! The felted creatures are soft and cute. I love those Campbell kids - they're so vintage looking. I thought I noticed them on your fireplace in the recent post. Oh, Santa is wearing plaid in the last picture. How wonderful is that?

  42. This looks like a perfect day!! I love the smell of fresh evergreens like that - nothing bottled or in a candle even comes close. We walked through a stand of Christmas trees at Eastern Market over the weekend and talked with the man selling them. He was from the UP and had trees over 18 feet. It was like being in a mini forest for a minute. I am glad you had such a fun wonderful day, even better that it is a tradition!

  43. I always enjoy that song … and I certainly enjoyed your post.

  44. LOVED THE GREENS . . .
I need to find a “greens “ place.
I have plenty to cut here, boxwood and cedar . . .
but need some winter berry and the cedar with the blue berries!
    Some holly too . . .
We have attended two Michael Buble’ concerts, tickets for another in March!
    Marvelous . . .

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh my, oh my, all is just beautiful. I have that Michael Buble music playing in my car. I love all the greens and need to add more to my home decorations. Those sweet little mice are always so tempting to want to come home with me. I may need to add one this year.
