For at least ten years, and probably a number more, my friend Jan and I have ventured to the market on the weekend before Thanksgiving, select our wreaths and then enjoy shopping in our favorite shop, Gardenviews, before lunching at Guernsey, a local restaurant, and stocking up for Thanksgiving at Trader Joe's.
The market is always packed with a terrific selection of wreaths and arrangements, along with greens for decking the halls. On this day, the weather was reasonable -- that is, not too cold, definitely not damp but not so unseasonably warm it doesn't feel like Christmas!
This booth looked almost empty by the time we left!
Santa is there and the town square is festively decorated with a huge tree and lovely arrangements.
Across the street, the theatre had a live children's show playing. Honestly, this town looks like something that fell out of a Hallmark movie!
Once we had our greens safely tucked away, we hit Gardenviews and if we weren't in the holiday mood, we would have instantly discovered it right here in this magical world of tinsel and lights!
I always love seeing what's new this year. I always think I've seen it all, and then something will pop up that is just so darned cute, I smile. Big smile. Lots of teeth and happy eyes!
I was pretty good about buying this year, but I did capture a few felted creatures to inspire me with my own. Even though the style is different, you can always learn!
These super-sized ornaments wouldn't work for my tree, but I loved them!
And there's something about the word "Believe" that always captures my imagination.
I came really close to getting this -- I love chickadees! But again, too big!
Our shopping trip came to a close and soon it home where Thanksgiving would await.
These little Campbell kids have been in the family since I was a child. They used to have hats but I gave them to the cats a long time ago and they seem to have disappeared. Good thing that was before Lizzie's time!

It's definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I love it all! The chickadees are so sweet, as are the tiny mice. Adorable and more is definitely more at Christmas.

Oh, Jeanie, what a wonderful holiday excursion, but then you always find the best ones. Those greens look so fresh. I'm hoping to make it to Trader Joes this week for some garland. ReplyDeleteThose Campbell's kids are certainly cute. I have a couple of soup spoons with them on them that were in my family since I was a kid too. They are slightly worn but have now been retired to my little spoon collection. And oh greens. They are always one of the prettiest parts of the holiday-as well as that cute little mouse tree too. ReplyDeleteI can see how you love this place - it looks perfect for you! Have you decorated your house by now. Maybe you can knit/crochet or felt little hats for those Campbell kids? I love all the supplies for making your own wreath. I just buy a wreath at Trader Joe's, put a candle in the center and that's it. I'm not really talented in making wreaths, but it must be nice being able to do it.

ReplyDeleteLovely Christmas offerings at the market and at your home. The boughs at the market are an intense green.So pretty. I saw they were selling these boughs and holly at my local grocery market. They usually bring in poinsettias too but you can buy these in multiple places thankfully there is a lot of choice. Those little Campbell kids are so cute. I don't think I've heard of them unless I read it on your blog last year. How do they come by the name Campbell kids? ReplyDeleteYour day was a lot like my afternoon on Friday with my mom and SILs. We went to an 'idea house' that was decorated for the holidays. It was incredible! They redecorate the house for every season. I've never been before but intend to go back when it's decorated for Easter. We also looked around the massive greenhouse/home decor/gardening center. My mom helped me pick out embellishments for the planters for the front steps and my 2 window boxes. She helped me decorate them on saturday before they headed out. I forgot to take pictures but they turned out beautifully!

It certainly seems like the holiday season was in full-on mode, Jeanne. That a lovely collection of greenery outdoors in the market and then all the wonderful holiday decos inside the stores. You and your friend started off the holiday season with a very festive outing. I agree that the ornaments were lovely but way too large for me as well.

This looks like a perfect day!! I love the smell of fresh evergreens like that - nothing bottled or in a candle even comes close. We walked through a stand of Christmas trees at Eastern Market over the weekend and talked with the man selling them. He was from the UP and had trees over 18 feet. It was like being in a mini forest for a minute. I am glad you had such a fun wonderful day, even better that it is a tradition!
