On the Art Table

I've been trying hard to make a bigger effort to paint and produce -- with varying results, I might add! This is the view from our room at Morgan's Forge, the house we stayed in near Bath in October. How I would love to see it in spring and summer.

From Paris, a look at the Seine at night. To be honest, I don't think the boat is very good. And I'm not sure how to make it right -- the photo I took it from is pretty vague there. But I was pretty happy with the water. (And nice not to have green in it!)

I have to say, painting in greens isn't my favorite thing. I just have a very hard time mixing just the right ones. And yet I seem to keep doing things that have it!

Another from France, the rental boats at Jardin du Luxembourg. Here's another where I liked part of it and part not so much. That area under the table didn't turn out too well and I'm not thrilled with the column on the right-hand side. But I rather like the boats!

This is an English Cotswold cottage from sketch...

...to the finished piece. I was relatively pleased with this one.

And I may have shown this before but I liked it enough I had to show it again! My cardinal!

Finally a few daffs. I was OK with this till I blobbed up the right side! C'est la vie!

All that painting requires a break!

Till next time...!

  1. These are really good!

The cottage windows are ah-mazing. You painted glass! I mean, you captured a reflection with paint and it looks like a reflection.

Also, gotta ❤️ the red Cardinal. Beautiful!

  8. I'm impressed with all of your painting, Jeanie. I especially like the window from the Cotswolds. Reminds me of Bibury Arlington Row cottages. Just lovely! Have a great evening.

  10. Hi Jeanie
I really love the Cotswold Cottage painting! You made the window reflections so well. The cardinal is so pretty--I miss seeing cardinals as they don't come this far west.

  11. You have been busy painting! I love the Cotswold Cottage painting too. It's great that you photograph your paintings so you can assess them and figure out what works and what doesn't. I've seen some ladies do a similar things with fashion.

  13. Oh, this was such fun, Jeanie! LOVE, love, love your travel-inspired paintings! I think you are growing so much as a watercolor artist! And I think you do a great job with greens... Greens are so hard, it's so easy to "muddy" them up. :/ WOW... that was so amazing--that 'possum in your backyard, from your previous post. You got some good photos! BIG CONGRATS to Rick's youngest on his achievements--wow, well done! :) Sorry corralling two comments into one today... haha! Happy Days to you all there! ((HUGS))

  19. I love the boats..the whole painting and La Seine at night..the colors are so impressionistic and I see Van Gogh swirls..
    Brava!

I am starting to write down my fave colors..over the past few yrs..following more artists.I succumb to temptation and buy a tube they like:)
I love Green Apatahite..Perylene Green..and my latest fave is Cascade Green..it's not really a greaan for leaves etc..but it's a gogeous green that changes colors.
I like Gold green for well..gold green;) And P Wang love Jadeite so that might be my next.
Peter Shiller uses blues and yellows adding sepia for mre olive:)
    Indersea green is neat too.
PS I didn't buy all these at one..
    All DS.

  20. Your paintings are wonderful! How you do it with watercolor amazes me. It's a medium I gave up a long time ago. Your River Seine is perfect except for the boat but I'm not sure anyone would have noticed its flaw shape at the front if you hadn't pointed it out.

  26. I thought the "blob" you mentioned in the daffodil picture was just a daffodil blowing a kiss.

  27. I am in total awe that you painted these!! The best I can do is stick figures!!
Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!!

  28. Love, love your watercolors, each and every one of them. I do love the little sale boats and it brings back memories of sitting nearby and watching the children float their boats.

  29. Your second one is my favourite.

  30. You have been busy, it is lovely seeing where you have blogged turned into art. It doesn't seem so long ago that you were in the Cotswolds and yet so much has happened in your life Love your boats too!

  31. I love seeing what you are working on. I've lost my extra room for a while but when I get it back I'm ready to get out my paints again.

  32. Your are so talented! I would love to be able to do what you do but I have trouble transferring what I see to paper. LoL!
    Have a blessed week!

  33. I do love that cardinal. Have you ever tried adding a catchlight, as a way of showing his eye? I was trying to figure out why he felt a little unfinished to me, and I think that's it. I can't remember how you've done other birds -- you may have eliminated it here on purpose.

I really like the window with the potted flowers, too. That's the kind of window I'd have if I could chose any window in the world!

  34. Really love the Seine painting. “Starry starry night song” came to mind instantly. Cath

  37. So pretty! I love it when you share your art! The weather here for the next several days is NOT going to be nice. It will likely head your way. But crappy weather = good days to paint!

  38. Oh, I think if I could paint this well, I'd start an art collection haha. I've been seeing this Rose wine a lot when I'm out shopping. The window with the pink flowers is so charming, and that red cardinal! Oh, what a talent you have, Jeanie. Thanks for sharing your creative art with us.

  40. Nice Jeanie . . .
If only I had a place where I could leave my painting out
    so I could “dap a bit on a whim . . .” . . .

Liking the Cotswold Sketch and then the painting . . .

I agree, finding the right green . . . blues too!
    Lots of trial and ???

    Like I said . . . NICE . . .

  43. I love the painting of the Seine...because of the overall color and the sparkling nightime atmosphere...You captured the magic, evem if you don't like the boat... And yes, the window is old world charming...You are a creative adventure, I think...as well as a world adventurer...

  44. Of course I find nothing wrong with these paintings and I also know that the artist herself is usually the most critical about her work. I wish I could paint like you!
