Travel Break: Someone Is Two!

Our Little Big Guy turned two this week! It hardly seems possible that two years ago we were near the end of the Oscars when we got the phone call that he was ready to pop! And that calls for a party! So we joined with all his grandparents and most of his aunts, uncles and cousins for a celebration!

I'm going to try hard not to overdose you with the "cute" but here were a few of my favorite moments of the day! Here are the grands and the great-grands with the birthday boy -- who would rather have been playing!

The theme of the party was his favorite movie, "Cars." So I painted a birthday card for him!

And he got plenty of cars.

And a big rig, too!

His cousins were on hand, but none of them wanted to pose for a photo!

Tears were shortlived, though -- until we had to pull him away from the big rig to have birthday cake!

Then he was back on it. He enjoyed his cake courtesy of Grandpa!

Of course, he wasn't the only star of the show. Little Little Guy was pretty cute too!

And he delighted us with his crawling. At seven and a half months, he's pretty close to walking, able to push the "lawn mower" and take it step by step with support. We expect him to be running track by April!

Mighty proud of it, too.

And he's a cuddler!

All in all, a lovely day. But boy, does that time fly!

Pretty soon, they'll both have drivers licenses!

I hope we can hand them over a world that isn't too messed up. I'm not terribly optimistic on that front, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

  1. Great card you painted, Jeanie. The odd time someone has done that kind of thing for me, with a bird theme of course, and it is always greatly appreciated - and saved - sometimes even framed! I am lookng at one done in South Africa by a fellow birder and artist as I type this.

  3. What a load of cuteness and love in this post. I love the card you painted for him. I hope his mom frames it for the future and can put it out on his birthday next year, too.

Those 'babies' are all little dolls.

Have a great Wednesday- xo Diana

  5. Congratulations on your grandson's 2nd birthday, time runs fast.
Love the card you painted him. Cars seems to be very popular right now, as my great-nephew had a Cars cake for his 3rd birthday a couple of weeks ago. Both kids look so cute :)

  8. What a cutie pie and he's really lucky that he was born into a loving family with so many grandparents and great-grands to give him a good foundation of what it means to be a 'family.' Rick looks like he really enjoys the role.

  11. I love the car you painted for him! That's a keepsake to hold onto and something I would put in Paul's baby book! I can't believe little big guy is already 2. Seems like he was just joining your family! Little little guy is a mover and a shaker! He might walk before Paul at the rate he's going! Paul is just starting to use his walker but he is SO unsteady! I'm thinking he won't walk until 14 months or maybe later? Which is fine with me as we already have our hands full with him crawling!

I have to laugh at all the tears in the kid photo! Don't make us stop playing! ;) It's great that the boys have cousins to grow up with. You know how important relationship with cousins are! Paul will get to meet his Chicago niece and nephew this weekend. He's so much younger than his cousins so he gets a lot of attention since we haven't had a baby in the family for awhile! Like you said in your email it's a good thing he's gotten over stranger danger! He does well with new faces as long as he can see me. If I leave the room then he starts to cry!!

  16. Oh gosh, how precious! And that photo of the cousins had me laughing out loud - hilarious!
I remember being more than a little worried about the state of our world when I was beginning my own family....little did I know what a state we'd be in now! Then and now....family is what matters most!

  17. Happy Birthday to your grandson, Jeanie. Such sweet pictures of him, and I love the picture of the cousins. Even though they didn't want to sit still for the photo, that's what made the picture priceless. Children are so innocent and precious. Such a cute card you made him. You know, I haven't seen the movie yet. A wonderful birthday celebration, and the picture of your little guy with the green balloon is one of my favorites today. : )

  18. Jeanie, wait until he is 23 (tomorrow!) then you will know when time flies. He has such beautiful blue eyes. I wonder if his hair will turn darker. As I am typing this I just got a call from someone saying he is my oldest grandson. I told him I don't have an oldest grandson and if I did he would speak a hell of a lot better English than you! I am just shaking, these callers make me so mad! I am careful to not mention my grandson's name..OK, Happy Birthday to the little man. So darling..Happy Wednesday...xxoJudy

  20. I always said that my babies' cheeks would be worn away with so many kisses! That little guy is definitely in this category.

  21. What cute guys (grandpa and dad included). I see Rick opens his mouth, too, when feeding the little ones. Why do we do that - maybe we think it helps get the food in their mouths? I have lots of pictures of Bob with his mouth open wide feeding the little ones. Love the pic of the crying cousins - it makes me smile. Great card you made, Jeanie.

  23. Oh how fun! Hey sure is a little cutie and so is his brother! Love the group photo on the sofa- how classic!! LOL... We have a grandson who turned 2 last September. They sure do exercise their emotions a lot at that age! Gosh I love the birthday card you made-how special is that!

  27. What an adorable birthday boy! And what a cute card you made for him. I hope they keep it for him.

I hear you about leaving them a decent world. Grandchildren make you think of that.

  28. Your card's wonderful, and the photo of the unhappy cousins is wonderful. As for the world? I think it's going to be just fine. The nervous nellies who are saying, "Don't have kids - they won't have a life!" are (in my opinion, of course) still pretty young themselves. Serious problems? Of course. But we'll move past them, and move on to new and different problems. In the meantime? Love people, and do good -- and eat lots of cake!

  29. Jeanie, Your painted birthday card is great! You need to paint one larger to be framed for his bedroom. Our Corbin will be 8 in two weeks. I can't remember if you were following me a few years ago when we lost our little Elliot. He lived for only 8 days. Every time I see a little one around what Elliot's age would be now, it brings back memories and how things could have been. He was born in June 2016, so he would be going on almost 3 now. I'm so happy for your little ones.

  32. There is never ever such a thing as an overdose of cute!!
And, wow. You are really talented!!! Awesome Birthday card!

Hehe, that look made me grin so big! Cuuute!
Always hard when you have to stop playing to have cake ;-)
And, wow, Little Little Guy is so big already, too, wasn't he a baby just the other day?!

Yes, your last sentence is what bothers me, too, when I think of my Nieces. All we can do is have faith...

  39. WHat lovely photos! Isn't it something how fast they seem to grow? And yet in a way it also seems to be a long time, because so much is happening and each day brings something new. They look, and are so completely adorable at that age - even the howling cousins were cute! It'll be lovely for them as they grow, to have a bunch of cousins of a similar age to themselves.
