And what saved me from being completely morose at leaving Paris was knowing that in a few hours, I would be in England, my soul country. But oh, I do love Paris. and here are a few of my favorite photos I didn't include in the other posts. Some of the reasons I love Paris.

Honestly, how can one resist?

The markets.
The Seine.
Ah, the Seine!
The spirit.
The doors and windows...
...and fountains.
Walking the narrow streets.
The wine.
The bouquinistes.
The bicycles.
The elegance and history.
The unabashed glitziness. But elegant glitz.
The gardens and palaces.
The macarons.
The street signs.
The way they just do it right.
Time to head to Gare du Nord. I do love train stations!
And catch a ride...
...through the beautiful French countryside as the sun goes down on our time in France.

And all those styles, wonderful. When I was in Paris I was only 14 years old and sure had no eyes for such beauties.
Oh, you would not love trains if you came to Germany. Funny, that the French, who are known as come si come sa are on time there and the always punctual German looses so big time-wise when it comes to trains...
Such wonderfully Parisian pictures! I can spend hours looking into cake shop windows there. They manage to make their food into a work of art. I do love those tall ornate windows too. And the photos of Gare du Nord are to me very atmospheric too. There is something so exciting about train stations, specially ones where you can catch a train to *several* other countries! I am thinking of you taking those photos just a few short hours before we met you coming out of the gate at St. Pancras!

I loved all the beautiful scenes, many of them I could almost hear the music in the background or smell the breads and pastries baking! Hope your week is going good so far, and how is your foot? Definetly some frosty winter weather swooping across some states now!

That is an exciting trip, but I thought the Chunnel crossing would be more exciting than it ended up being. But it is still fantastic to fly across the countryside. ReplyDeleteI am sure that it was bittersweet to leave, Jeanie, but the visions stored in your memory bank will keep it alive forever, and after all you were moving on to England, hardly a consolation prize. I know that among the sights and sounds, a corner is reserved in Rick’s mind for the odour of bread, and he will think of all the boulangeries, big and small, renowned and unheralded, where his taste receptors were activated and his love of kneading dough and watching it rise was validated. You had a wonderful trip, met old friends, wined and dined, slurped and burped, promenaded and rode the Métro, watched Parisians old and young, big and small, sat on benches, smelled the Seine. All in all not a bad way to spend a week I would say!

ReplyDeleteThe last time I was there, my daughter and I were filling a bottle at one of those green fountain things. An older woman came up to us, and told us that was the best water in Paris. :-)

ReplyDeleteWe were so close to the Paris during our trip to Scotland (we've been driving from Poland to UK). We wanted to hang Paris but we realized that they have strange ecozones system. We couldn't get the sticker to put it on the car's front window on time. After ordering you have to wait for few days to get it. Fine, it's easy to get it online, but this time... We didn't have it.
