Harry and Ellie

I got some wonderful news last week. The topical chemo I have been using on my lip has apparently done its thing and the bad-guy cells are a thing of the past. That isn't to say the lip doesn't hurt like crazy as it recovers. It feels as though I burned it to bits. But this will pass. I am relieved and grateful.

So, on the way home from the appointment I drove by the ditch and what should I see!  Yes, Harry was there in full force.

But he also had a friend! I will call her Ellie the Egret.

She was quite lovely, stately. And hungry.

She was stalking as well as Harry (they were both doing well in the fishing department).

Then the quick dive...

...and lunch! (Or maybe it was brunch. It was an early appointment!)

It was great fun watching her, so white, so clean looking.

And the sun reflecting on the water couldn't have made for better photo ops.

But don't take her grace for weakness. I think she could hold her own.

Meanwhile, it was a peaceable kingdom day -- ducks, egrets, herons, all happy together. And in their own spaces.

I have to admit, it felt like a good omen.

And it was nice to see a new girl in town. (Or so I shall call her!)

Especially when I saw this a few minutes later. Sneak previews.

One other thing -- I enjoy reading Anne Clare's "The Naptime Author."  She posted a lovely poem about the heron on her blog the other day with a beautiful watercolor. So rather than quoting it here, I'll send you to HER POST so you can enjoy her heron too.

  10. First of congratulations on the good news that your lip is healed, and you will soon be able to resume full scale smackers with Rick. I cannot think of a more celebratory event following such a welcome report than to spend some time with herons and egrets. This really is just what the doctor ordered.
