Postcards from the Lake: More from Art Camp

We went to art camp to be productive and productive we were.

Kate's annual bird calendar got a big boost with several "nearly finished" pieces in watercolor along with block printing. She also tried some new techniques. (Here she's painting blue gouache over orange for a textured effect. Scary but the finished product looks terrific!)

I finished seven watercolors and completed some bookmarks started long ago. (Bookmarks still need ribbons and maybe corner rounding.)

But there was time for fun. We went into Gaylord to the kitchen store.

Inside, a fabric artist's studio where the cute pillows they sell are made.

More wonderful dinners, including Susan's corn salad. (I also add dill to her recipe and while it's good day one, day two is even better!)

And we celebrated my upcoming (or maybe by now, past!) birthday twice!

But back to the art. Here are a few of my art camp things. My massage therapist's dog!

The sailboat vendor in the Tuileries.

Wine bottles from a Paris shop.

Montmartre. From this...

To this...

I had trouble with this tulip.

But it's looking OK. Not the best but a good learning experience.

A favorite cardinal.

An epic fail. Let's just call this one a "primitive."

Always a bit of a mess.

But at the end of the day...

No complaints!

  1. Boy, are you two prolific art campers! Love all the things you produce and 'play' with. I can almost smell the lake and country air just by visiting your blog and that makes me happy with memories of painting on my folk's cottage porch.

  3. Great art! I'm having a little bit of a solitary art camp for myself this week-end (still no weight bearing on right leg, but increased mobility with practice on the knee roller). I love your watercolors.

  17. Happy birthday again. I left a b'day wish on Sandra's blog, too.

You and Kate had a fabulous time, I can tell. I painted some fabric today, but it was a horrible fail. Live and learn, though. You seem to have been more prolific than me. I LOVE your watercolor paintings and the photos you share of them, too.

  19. What an opportunity to really focus on your art. Those bookmarks are so amazing. What a great idea to insert something you love into the books you love. Maybe I need an author camp to get me to focus.

  20. Good morning JEANIE!

How great it is to visit you again; I've been juggling a few things lately not being able to visit. I AM IN LOVE with your work. The therapist's dog, the cardinal, MONTEMARTE! I love both versions, but I've always been a pen and ink, black and white admirer of Paris,so your original is quite lovely as well!

Oh Jeanie, my lakeside summer is coming to an end in two weeks. Back to the classroom for preparations, then school opens the day after Labor Day. It was a great summer, and your posts always keep me in tune with the lakeside fun of living in the upper midwest. CHEERS!

  25. Happy Birthday, one day late! Here's how it goes: Step 1: Find out birthday date Step 2: Record date in special book Step 3: Remember to check special book for the month's birthdays.

Oooooops! That third step can trip a girl up!

  40. Oh, that sunset is soooo pretty, Jeanie. The post cards are all delightful, but there's just something about the Cardinal that gets to me. The kitchen store looks charming, and these are the places that I'm really drawn to. Yummy corn salad - that looks like feta cheese perhaps?

You look fantastic at 67, Jeanie, and your smile says it all. : )
