You might think I love spending every minute at the lake -- and I do! But I also like a road trip now and then, so when our friends Sharon and John invited us to lunch at their cottage on the east coast of Michigan (aka Lake Huron), we were delighted to hop in the car! We arrived to a beautiful blue-sky and blue-water day! Cue the music!
John and Sharon live on a bluff overlooking the lake. A few steps down through a glorious shady hill and you are in paradise!
The water is so clear you could see the details on every stone under the sparkles!
Of course, Rick had to find the flat ones to skip. He was pretty good at it, too!
The pudding stones were elusive to me but Sharon has quite a collection and John even made a table using slices of pudding stone with their red jasper as part of the tabletop. Very impressive.
The guys were into looking at the boats WAY out there!
I liked looking at them through my zoom!
Yes, excellent detail -- these guys were not close!
I loved the driftwood branch Sharon had found and brought home. It looks perfect, resting in a bed of lake stones.
Indeed, loads of smiles, all around.
Sharon and John's son, Ben, is the leader of the indie band Lord Huron (guess where the "Huron" came from!). Ben spent plenty of time at Lake Huron during the summers when he was growing up. You may have heard one of their three albums (including the platinum "Strange Trails") or heard their music in the film "A Walk in the Woods" or on TV on Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, "Girls," "Once Upon a Time" and several other shows. No wonder John and Sharon are smiling! (They're having loads of fun being groupies!)
After we left we took the scenic route home and stopped at Ocqueoc Falls. First, I thought this river's rapids were what they were calling the falls. Lovely, but not terribly exciting.
Then we found the real falls. Not huge but loads of fun for the kids.
The park was lovely for a walk and a wonderful way to end our stay and head back home.
The big lake. Or one of them!
Life is good.

I grew up there! :-)
Jeanie, What a fun place to enjoy time with family and friends. Love the blue sky and water. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
I haven't been to Lake Huron in years so I thoroughly enjoyed 'tagging' along with you. I have a fondness for pudding stones, so that was a nice surprise to see yours this morning.
The last photo is so interesting with all the 'layers' of texture! What a fun trip you had and a neat place to visit! Enjoy your day!
what a beautiful visit,, We live on Lake Huron too!!
It is so nice to see people out and having fun in summer. I love the kids swimming at the falls. It brings me back to my own youth.
I have never heard of pudding rocks, although I must have seen some at some point in my life. Are they called that because they resemble a pudding just out of the oven?
Great pictures, Jeanie.
Very nice! We love Lake Huron, as well. So much beautiful coast line. That must be a fancy camera you have, Jeanie! -Jenn
Looks like a great trip, what a pretty place you visited. I've never seen pudding stones before. Glad you enjoyed yourselves there. I got that book on my Kindle, by the way. Hugs, Valerie
What a beautiful looking place.
The lake water is so clear!!... I'd be rock collecting for hours on end! ...
I loved the movie "A Walk in the Woods".
Oh my the water is so beautiful and blue! Lovely day
Jeanie, I love receiving your post cards. What a fun trip to visit your friends on Lake Huron. I can imagine how beautiful the clear water looked in person. I have never been to Lake Huron, but surely I must make it a priority. When is the trip to Paris, September?!!!
Oh, it looks SO fun. I think I could get used to lake life!
Interesting to see stones on Huron Beach and sand on Michigan Beach.
I need to go stone hunting . . . new art fun happening this week.
Looks you had good weather for your trip East . . . not the best going west the past few days!
I love hearing the good news about your friends son . . .
I am sure they are enjoying his bit of fame . . . and some good music!
I’m with you in my dreams. Wonderful times in a beautiful place. Enjoy.
How lovely! I really have to explore more of Michigan.
what a lovely visit with good friends! Good for you guys!
Your pictures are absolutely beautiful, Jeanie. When they showed up in my reader, I called ‘H’ to look at them. I told him, “That’s Jesnie’s Life.” At least part of it, right? The fun part. How nice to spend such fun times with friends. Makes for great memories.
Beautiful. The water is so clear. It's amazing.
Oh yes, "life is good" when you can walk or sit in those Adirondack chairs and enjoy the water. How beautiful! What a treat.
HAHA....I had to look up pudding stone. Thanks for sharing that info. I loved that shot of the stones under the water. NICE....I love that you had a road trip but still had the water! My sis in law is from Mich. and I worked with a guy that was from there. My friend held up his hand and asked where my sis in law was from....I had a question mark over my head and he laughed. Told me to go and hold up my hand and ask her....haha..
It certainly is a mighty lake!
You lucky pair, a splendid trip and a pleasant visit with friends. And good summer weather. What could be better.
I hope you can enjoy many more of them.
What a fun time! I've never been to Lake Huron...now that would be a fun road trip! I'm glad you had good weather, it sure has been wonky!

How beautiful! Great place to spend a summer day.
I don't think I have ever seen a photo of Lake Huron so these were cool to see. It is very pretty, and yes, very clear. It looks like the kind of road trip I would enjoy-especially with good friends on the other end. Hope all is well. Hugs-Erika
Lovely photos Jeanie, oh the clear water, the falls...all so pretty.
Wow, you have famous friends, or at least their son is famous.
Enjoy your Summer.
Your photos never cease to amaze me. You certainly get the feel of the place through your lens.
I have to admit, you know the most interesting (and some even famous) people. I always love your postcards from the lake series.
Jeanie, I have never been to this part of the country, so I love it when you post pictures so I can see it all. So fun to see parts of our nation I've never been to, I know nothing about the Lakes, but some of the scenery is so so pretty! so glad you got to go and see your friends, that must've been a wonderful day! Love the water pictures there, it's SO CLEAR and pretty! Oh gosh, and that waterfall at the other place....I love waterfalls and that brings back memories, we used to take the kids growing up to swimming holes such as that one. It was so much fun and they loved it. Those kids look like they are having a blast!
Awww, beautiful pictures, I´d so love to jump in there - and you all look so happy :-)
I agree - life is good! Such a beautiful summer!
So pretty. My fav song is Ghost on the Shore. I think it was in a tv programme so I waited for the credits then chased it down on You tube to listen to the whole song. It is still one which plays in my head when I sit by the river here.
Hello Jeanie, what a fun road trip. I love the views of the lake and boats. You, Rick and your friends do all look happy! I agree, Life is Good! Enjoy your day and week ahead!
I've never heard of pudding stones, and haven't a clue what they are. I know this: I'd love to spend some time searching for them along the shore of such a beautiful lake!
Jeanie,
How lovely all of this is! So wonderful for you to have access to the glory of nature in a relatively easy drive. Being outdoors is the best of the best and the smiles on all of your faces shows it!
Jemma
What a lovely place Jeanie. The lake is beautiful and sooooo clear! I see why you loved going there. I love taking scenic routes when possible. The falls were so pretty and worth the extra time to enjoy such natural beautiy. Happy smiling faces all around means a wonderful day..........
I have never been that far west but it looks lovely! Give me any lake and I will love it. The water looks so inviting!
Aww..love lakes..water..boats..shells stones:) Lucky girl enjoy every moment!Water looks so clear and beautiful!
Looks beautiful Jeanie. I’m glad you all had fun.
Wow, that water is so clear! So beautiful! Looks like a really fun time! The photo of Rick skipping rocks reminds me of Phil. He LOVES skipping rocks. I'm terrible at it so I take pictures of him skipping walks. I could have a gallery wall of him skipping rocks at different places. ;) He would hate that, though, as he hates having pictures taken of himself - ha!
Great music and what a fab day you had. That water is amazingly clear! I have fond memories of time spent at my sister's in-law's cottage on Lake Erie in the summer months. Good times! I haven't skipped stones in years. Love the picture of you with your other half. You both look so happy! xoxo
I love the crystal clear water! Fun with friends, aw life is good!
The lake is stunning. Love your photos. It was so relaxing to read. :)
Oh, Jeanie! I just love this!! I love the music, the photos, and how you're so living life to its fullest! Drop dead gorgeous!
Gorgeous lake, and awsome friends! Wish you many happy returns of a trip like this one!
Wow just love that Clearwater Pic!! And the sky is so beautiful. Is it very hot there? I heard in CA every day it’s 110+ F.
Isn't it fun to do a travelogue on this blog site!! Wow, I forget that you all in the Midwest DO have water, beautiful lakes!! What fun you had!
I'm sorry I'm not getting to others' blogs lately. So busy with my projects and work...
But what a joy to visit you today!
Thank you for your lovely sweet notes on my blog!
Sounds wonderful!
Do you know, I've never actually tried skipping stones.
I love the pictures of the stones under the water. The water is so clear! Wow! Great picture.
It's wonderful that you live so close to these beautiful places, Jeanie. A walk on the beach when it's not too crowded is one of my favorite things to do. Breathing sea air makes me happy.
Neat trip, Jeanie! I'd never heard of pudding stones... At first I thought maybe they were stuck into a pudding {maybe some weird old way of cooking! Lol!}, but they sure have a pretty color. Glad your hubby could skip some stones. We were skipping stones at the local lake when my son, daughter-in-law and daughter came out the week before Mother's Day. :) Are there any manufacturing/warehouse jobs up your way?? Lake living sound heavenly!
Happy Monday to you,
Hugs,
Barb :)
