Privacy Policy Notification

Since I only use your email addresses to reply to you (if you are a no-reply blogger and assuming Blogger ever fixes the email system), I'm not sure I need to put this out there. But I will!

(And I have to say, I miss the good old days  of blogging where it seemed like the main purpose was to connect with like-minded friends, share ideas and things you love and simply become inspired. I started blogging partly as a journal but partly to find a community of others and those friendships -- both with those I've been able to "meet" in person and those who are online only (for now!) have been incredibly rewarding. No one advertised or had sponsored posts. Just sharing.)

I don't do a newsletter or anything like that, so when you sign up to subscribe as a "follower," an email subscriber or bloglovin' reader, those are the ones you are sharing your address with -- but with your permission.

So, just in case (and for my EU friends in particular) here is the privacy policy. You'll later find this posted on menu bar at the top, HERE.  Nothing else has changed!

I doubt it makes a difference to anyone, but as you know, Pie Fixes Everying!

Dear Subscriber,

This privacy policy has been updated to comply with the new GDPR regulations effective on May 25, 2018.

GDPR means General Data Protection Regulation. This new law of the EU in the EU ensures you data is both safe and accessible to you. Your data is handled with transparency, and will not be shared or sold to anyone else. You data is secure. To comply with this regulation, the privacy policy for The Marmelade Gypsy has been updated. To comply with this regulation, you may read the new privacy policy for the Marmelade Gypsy HERE.

Thanks for being a wonderful Marmelade Gypsy reader. If you have questions, contact me at jeanie@wkar.org.

Now, go enjoy a cupcake. We need one after all this blogging mess! I know you all are as frustrated as I am!

  1. Jeanie, I have been frustrated with all of this! Thanks for the cupcake, now I feel better. Happy Thursday!

  2. I put mine on my right sidebar, because Google said I had to to meet the new EU guidelines. I wish Facebook had those restrictions, rather than blogs and blogger. Some of my friends have gone "dark" and decided to go private as a result of this mess. Yet another reason to be a "no-reply" blogger! However, pie always makes things better, and a cute cupcake never hurts, either.

    1. I love having the emails for direct replies -- I hate having to have people revisit the blog or leave a detailed comment on their about something unrelated to their post. I haven't heard of any privates yet.

  3. It seems that more and more of the minutiae of our lives is being managed!

  4. Pie fixes almost everything, except perhaps those stoopid people who have thought up all those unnecessary new rules and regulations which are spoiling our fun. And those European politicians in Brussels even get paid for it, unbelievable! Hugs, Valerie

    1. I couldn't agree more -- I didn't know about the politicians, though. Spot on!

  5. Yes Jeanie, frustrated! Why change what works (comments via email) I say. It seems when they say changes are improving the blogger expierence a clue things will be more complicated!

    1. Exactly. I only put in the policy because I wasn't sure with the Caravan link. But I really don't like it!

  6. I am just SO in dark about the changes other bloggers are saying they are experiencing here at Bloggers. I wonder if they are doing them in batches and they haven't gotten to my batch yet. Then again maybe it's because I've never done the comments via email here or on my own blog plus I don't know what EU stands for to look it up. I just hope I can keep coming to your blog. I really enjoy it!

    1. Just found it: "The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). ... The data subject has the right to revoke this permission at any time." Reading that, I get the impression it's not a Blogger platform thing per say?

    2. I honestly don't know, Jean. That's why I decided to put one on. I suspect the email thing is connected to the privacy but I don't know. And I do have the Gypsy Caravan at the top for sales-related things so I did it just to be sure, even though I don't do sponsored or advertised posts.

  7. Now wondering if I need to do this. Ugh! Good job!

  8. Jeanie, I was feeling very pressured with all the emails I was getting about this GDPR business, then I decided to read a big long thing about it, which led me to decide it doesn't even apply to me. I'm not selling a product, especially not to people in the EU, so … But I have a "statement" semi-finished that I can put up if I see something that changes my mind.

    1. I don't think it applies to me either, but I do have my Gypsy Caravan page for those interested. I don't do giveaways or sponsored posts, so I think I'm OK -- but just in case.

  9. I am so annoyed that blogger hasn’t fixed the glitch with not sending comments via email! It’s been nearly 2 weeks! I kind of ignored this whole privacy law change thing because it just seemed overwhelming to read about it, but a friend posted a summary about it so that helped. But it still seems like something that should not apply to/impact people like us!

    1. So am I -- they say next week but I'll believe it when I see it! I don't think it should impact me either, but just in case...

  13. Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. I did like the early days, but I plug on, it is my journal and it's such an extended world of ideas and sharing.

    1. I'm sure sooner or later they'll get it fixed. Meanwhile, I'll still be commenting and until we figure all that out, replying here. I know-- my journal is here, too.

  15. Hi Jeanie. Thanks so much for trying to make it easier for dummies(like me) to understand this gibberish. But,sorry, it didn't help! I just can't seem to figure it out and, frankly, I don't really care. I don't make money from the blog and I don't teach anything so my head is stuck you know where and that seems fine to me for the time being. I suppose if there really is a reason why I need to know this stuff, than I will learn it, no matter how long it takes, because I do love blogging but can't believe that all this turmoil is making it easier! I will put my thank you's beneath everyone's comment, like you and many others are doing and hope that they have the time to come back to the blog twice. I will just announce in my post, because the main thing is I don't want anyone to think that I have neglected to answer them. That is what is important to me..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy

    1. I am doing the same. I think everyone knows, though, if we don't get replies, the reason why! I'm leaving this as my temporary fix until they pull it together. They claim (and I'll believe it when it happens) that email will be fixed by next week. I'm not terribly optimistic. I don't think I'd bother with the privacy policy except that if I ever DO decide to do anything, then it is there. And, with the Gypsy Caravan for card or painting sales, I wasn't sure if it would be needed. Though if anyone writes anything there, I won't know either. Note to self. Check! Meanwhile, thanks for coming by. I tried to find a copy of your sampler but so far, no luck. More places to try!

  16. Oh, I am frustrated from lack of tech knowledge. I just want to write and interact with other bloggers! I just added a privacy policy to the very bottom of my blog but I don't get the whole EU thing...that is something different or additional? Thanks for clarifying for those of us that just don't get it! I am with Judy! I don't want to ignore anyone's comments but it seems we have no choice right now.

    1. We all are, AnnMarie, and I think the great majority of us want to do exactly that -- simply interact. I don't get it either, but at least I think everyone understands if they don't hear from us.

  19. Just yesterday I had to give my signature at our small pharmacy due to that very important GDPR - stuff that makes life so much more secure for all of us :-(
What stupid nonsense, what does it have to do with blogging?! You´re right, blogging is about finding people with similar interests, to learn how life is rolling in aother places!
    The world is turning crazy...

  20. Not sure what . . .
    I keep things pretty simple . . .
Blog, write, with pictures about my life . . .
Enjoy hearing about the lives, happenings of my friends . . .
Not selling or advertising anything . . ,
Unless being happy, joyful, peaceful in word and picture is a form of selling something . . .
An occasional piece of pie or cupcake seems quite okay with me . . .
    Thank you Jeanie . . ,

  21. Jeanie that third shot of the rain on the highway and the red truck is stunning. I see you had a wonderful time on your trip, hope you have made it home safely. I too have to agree about all this mumbo jumbo with blogging. All I ever wanted to do was to paint create and share, and here we all are wresting with the GDPR!
