This is Maybee. She belongs to my cousin Mark. When I saw his photo of this sweet girl with her tongue showing, I knew she had to be one of my subjects!
So did Audrey. A lot of you know Audrey if you read Deb's blog. Audrey has had a few medical issues this summer so this was to be her get well card. (I took the photo before I put in her beautiful whiskers.)
Unfortunately, I lost it somewhere in the house when I was cleaning for book club. They should be put on alert that next time they come, I don't clean. Anyway, I redid Audrey with another photo. And then today I found it.
This is actually from a combo photo of Quebec City and a card. I took a bit of license but not too much! This one is part of the lost set. (Till today!)
And you may remember the photo for this one, which was my favorite house. I can't find this one either. No, I did -- today!(I need to work on my windows.)
This view -- I don't think it's done yet, but another -- looking down on Vieux Quebec and across the St. Lawrence River. (The building on the right needs help, among other things. Somehow the perspective got a tad wonky.)
I love my Martha's Vineyard houses, so I had to capture this one...
And yet another.
It's better with a mat.
This is not a Vineyard house -- it's the cottage of my friend Judy. But it could be!
Here -- let's have some of Rick's bread... (from the once-missing collection!)...
...and some wine. I did this based on the painting Rick loved in Quebec. Not my original design but I'll tell you, it was one of the hardest I've ever done.
And while we are talking food and drink, here are a couple of future menu cards. I still have to do the "menu" lettering. I may do another version of these horizontally as place cards and hopefully have all done for my November sale or to add to the Gypsy Caravan. Does anyone still use menu or place cards except me? (To be perfectly honest, I think I can do the Christmas one a lot better.
Here might be a future Christmas card.
Or maybe this one? (From a vintage postcard) I can see I need to revisit the eyes on the lower right bird.
I'm not very good at portraits yet. I think this one shows a lovely young woman, but Miss Molly's soul is missing from it. I think it's in the turn of the mouth. She needs another layer of color. It's something...I don't have it quite right. But I remain undaunted!
And finally, I'll leave you with a sunset from the lake.
Thanks for wandering through my late-summer art! Now I have to get into crafty mode before my November 2-4 sale!

Dear Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteYour art here is simply amazing! Ok. The cat.. spot on, and your houses, oh Jeanie, I love them. The colors are so bright and cheerful. Ricks bread, great! Wine bottles are not easy but you did a fantastic job. The birdies are so sweet. Excuse me but did you say you are not very good at portraits?
I highly disagree. This is outstanding!!! I am looking at the shape of the mouth, I think you have got it, and I agree, maybe just another layer of color. You are really something, you know it? BRAVO!!!!
Love the ~Just because~ sunset at the lake.
Enjoy your weekend, Jeanie..
Your art has excelled by leaps and bounds..
blessings,
Penny
You made a lot of paintings this summer. I really like both paintings of Maybee. They are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI also like your yellow Martha's Vineyard house. It is lovely. I'm always impressed by your paintings.
I really like the snowman and YES, I also still use menu and place cards, but I create mine in my word processing program. Yours, on the other hand are both lovely. Thanks for taking us on this magical tour of your paint brush.
What a plethora of wonderful art you created, jut wonderful. My fave just has to be that gorgeous cat, so sweet with her little pink tongue showing. The paintings of Quebec are great, too, and show the happy atmosphere there. Have a great Sunday, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteYour work is quite beautiful Jeanie, especially the cats. And the colours are marvellous too. I hope you are enjoying Fall. I imagine where you live you have fabulous fall colours. xx
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. Those colourful little houses are my favourites. One of the nice things about Ireland was seeing how many people now paint their homes in brilliant colours. It seems particularly popular in hot countries, whereas it is needed more in rainy places, in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteHello, love the kitty paintings. Your artwork is beautiful. I love the windows with the flower boxes. Cute houses and birds. The lake sunset is gorgeous. You are talented. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day and new week!
ReplyDeleteWOW, Jeanie, the portrait, it's amazing.....I know what you mean about the "soul" of a work of art. For poetry, it's the fresh, new way to say something cliché that adds soul, for photography, it's the cast of light and shadow that places the subject in a whole new light. For watercolor, I'm not quite sure what it is, but I have to say you got the lines and shapes and shadows SPOT ON!
ReplyDeleteArt can be a painful process to discover, in my opinion, yet it's one of the most rewarding. I have always thought that the masterpiece resulting in the perseverance of any any artist is the artist herself. Bravo.
I am mesmerized by the talent you show, Jeanie. I think Molly looks really beautiful. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite, but I love how you challenge yourself to everything from still life to nature to architecture to portraits and everything in between. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteExcellent work! Good for you. (Especially love the crust on the bread!)
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about losing stuff when cleaning......
Hi Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteI love your paintings. My mother did water colors -- mostly landscapes and flowers -- so I'm very fond of looking at them. I think you would enjoy reading an article about the technical side of Mona Lisa that's in this month's Atlantic and also online; it relates to the portrait you did.
best... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Jeanie, I love your art work. And although I featured your beautiful art of Audrey vertically I see it works both ways. :) :) :) lol You are amazing. And I am so happy to have both my girls captured in your art and plan to frame them for the house. It's so fun to visit your blog. xo
ReplyDeleteJeanie... I continue to be in awe of your artistic talent. And yes, I think that you are VERY good at portraits! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteYou are good lady..REALLY good.. all of them have talent and charm..oh good for you!! You have a had a beautifully creative summer..Bravo..can you hear my applause?
ReplyDeletejeanie, hard to know how to get my words to you. comments on your painting posed in Oct. just lovely, they show your style and vision of things dear to your heart. I need to remember your energy and love for what is important to you. keep those brushes wet with color!!!! hugs, Sharon
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful Jeanie. My favorites are the cats and the bird one which might be a Christmas card, but that's more my taste as they are all really well done. You did catch Quebec so well in those pieces! I think you had a very successful summer of painting at the lake. Happy Columbus Day weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI think your paintings are fantastic! How wonderful that some of them might turn into cards. That would be a card the receiver would keep, maybe put into a little frame. You are very talented and have such a great hobby! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteYou know you are my inspiration to paint. I love looking at your art and I see the love. I've been away from the paint brush too long but it has been a crazy Fall so far. I need to get back to my paints for sure. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThe watercolor of wine bottles and glasses is gorgeous.
Jeanie, I really like your style. It's fun seeing all your pretty paintings from the summer in one post. I think your paintings would make adorable Christmas cards!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of paints do you use? (I've been asking several of my artist friends about their materials lately.)
xo,
RJ
Beautiful artwork---you are quite a talent! I love the kitties and most of all, the villages and homes. So colorful and vibrant.
ReplyDeleteKeep sharing!
Jane
You have been busy painting. I love them all, but especially the kitties and that house with the lanterns hanging on the porch. Eventhough you entice me to pull watercolors out, I just don't seem to do it. Now I have bought wool, so thinking once I finish my book that will be the direction I go. Have had a bad cold, plus gone alot this past week; but excited to face this coming week beginning to feel better and think again.

ReplyDeleteHi, Jeanie! I'm really enjoying your posts.
I think you are an amazing artist. I had no idea you were so talented. The portrait that you included really looks like the woman in the photo, I think. I do see something about the mouth that might bring more soul to it. Look at the lower lip. Look at the lower edge of the lip. Now look at the lower lip of the woman in the photo. See how there is a little shadow just under the lower lip as if it curls over a tiny bit. If you could show that in the painting I think it could make a difference. It seems a little thing, but sometimes those are the features that totally change a face. What do you think?
I love the house that belongs to your friend. The one with the big front porch. I would love to live in a house like that.
Good luck at your sale. I'd like to come, but my daughter's birthday is that weekend so don't know if I'll get the chance.
I didn't realize you had created such a wonderful series of works! They reflect your philosophy, your ability to create happiness and peace and joy. The Quebec City images made me feel so good...love the holiday borders...Lots of pleasant sounenirs here...
ReplyDeleteI would say . . . artist . . .
ReplyDeleteAmazing Jeanie . . .
What a talent you are . . .
You did a beautiful job on the wine. I remember when you showed the painting. Very pretty. Also love the cat paintings. Really. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh my friend you are a true talent! I love the yellow Victorian and white homes.
ReplyDeleteSaw the Gatsby party on IG. Hope you'll cover it here.
I was right when I said your love for the red and yellow of my flower reflected your painting. One thing I like is how clear your colors are: even the ones that are softer, like the birds, are beautiful. Should I mention that I love the cat portraits? Of course you know I do, but it's worth mentioning again!
ReplyDeleteYou are very blessed Jeanie to have such a special gift. To come home from your trips and paint what you love from favorite sites. I love all your kitty paintings and the lovely houses. Happy week.........
ReplyDeleteHello Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteYou can’t go wrong with cats, food and houses, and you certainly haven’t gone wrong with these. They are all beautiful.
I love the snowman Christmas card and all the beautiful houses they make me want to visit Martha's Vineyard.
Now would you be so kind as to cut me a slice of that delicious looking bread, and maybe we could share a glass of wine.
Hugs Barbara
Wow....you have been busy. Great job on all your watercolors!
ReplyDeleteYou have been one busy lady - your paintings are really good and I like them all.
ReplyDeleteThat bread and wine looks good, sure could use some right now. LOL
Have a terrific week.
Hugs,
Mary
Oh Jeanie, how I love your paintings. The cats are beauties, and you know I would love the houses on Martha's Vineyard. The recipe cards are so much fun! I love them all! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteJeanie I love your paintings. I would SO love to be able to do this. And I want to learn to illustrate my writing - sketching and creating little characters. Sigh. A class is on my bucket list for winter. Thank you for sharing yourself through your art. I love how open you are about being "human!"
ReplyDeleteThese are so beautiful! Yes you should make your own Christmas cards! You know those pretty note cards you made for us when you came here? You could make those with your art too. :)
ReplyDeleteYou have such a gift for capturing the beauty in your life with your paintbrush. I absolutely love the one of sunset on the lake. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI just love your paintings. They're all wonderful.
ReplyDeleteseeing this strand of your art
ReplyDeletetruly shows your special style
they are all charming
beautiful bits of your life
and what brings joy to your heart
We make menus for our Julia Child Night! We haven't done place cards in quite a while but we used to when my mom hosted her side of the family for Thanksgiving. We had 35+ people so she did table assignments to make the seating process easier!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the art you've created! The kitty ones tug at my heart as you know how much we love our cat! I hope you have a successful art show. That first weekend in November is going to come fast, I bet! At least it will for me as I'm in Chicago most of this week for work and then we go to Asheville at the end of the month!
Your paintings are gorgeous Jeanie, I love the cat and the wine bottles painting is spot on :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, Jeanie! I remember when you started on your journey of painting and I am just amazed at your progress and how talented you are. You had this talent living deep within you all along and now it is blooming or maybe I should say - exploding! Everyone of your paintings are just beautiful! Thank you for popping in to see me and I've melted a few plastic bags on my burners too! ;)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh my, you are getting better and better everyday at painting, Jeanie. And the snowman, I loved it! When you put the pictures next to your creations, they really do look life like, especially the cat paintings. I really like that yellow cottage. I think showing the shadow more against Molly's bare skin might give it the soul that you wanted (just a thought). You really have outdone yourself this time, my friend. These are wonderful. : )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Jeanie, Your art always inspires me to paint, but then something comes along and it's left to the wayside again. The cat is beautiful and I really love the snowman with the cats. You could make this into Christmas cards to send out.
ReplyDeleteIt was an absolute pleasure strolling through your late-summer art. As a cat lover, your felines definitely took my fancy, but I also particularly loved you Quebec City water colours. Thank you for your lovely words you left on my blog. I hope you will join me when I reveal what lies down the street. xxx
ReplyDeleteOh how I love your art! The scenes of Quebec are my favorite and what you are doing for Christmas is beautiful. I could use some of those for the little books I'm making...always thinking of altered books now! heehee! Enjoy your day! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing your work all together Jeanie, it was like a private gallery show! You have chosen very difficult subjects to paint, I admire your bravery! It is so hard to paint someone you know, animal or human! The cats are wonderful and I think the houses are my favorite! Glad you found your missing work~ I bought a portfolio from amazon, it's a large plastic envelope style that holds a ton of work and can be stashed in a closet or under the bed...it was only about $12 and so handy, I know where everything is! Keep up your fearless painting!
ReplyDeleteYou just should paint... and paint and keep painting. Your art is beautiful. Don't read books, don't clean, don't cook-- just paint :-)
ReplyDeleteJeanie you are so talented! Beautiful cats, of which I have become partial to lately.
ReplyDeleteJeanie! You are amazing. I love these. Thank you so much for sharing with us. This post is being featured on my Pink Saturday post this week as "the one that caught my eye".
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday, dear friend.♥
I'm not sure how I missed this post. Honestly, Jeanie, these paintings are pretty amazing. Your portraiture is very good as are your houses. When are you going to start selling them? Those cats are so good.
ReplyDeleteAmazing artwork! Wow! I would love to have such talent! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing. What wonderful work. So inspiring.
