Harry is still here, or at least was on November 7 when I took these photos.
Our leaves are falling, to be sure but there is still plenty of color.
So, before these images are just a memory, join me for a late autumn walk at the ditch.
Here we are rounding the path.
And here is a fellow walker. There are lots of them these days, enjoying 60+ weather, blue skies and golden leaves!
The trees on the island have dropped their most of leaves but the beautiful sky gives us plenty of color in the reflections.
And, because I'm a glutton for beautiful big birds...
Here's Harry!
And again...
And again.
I wish I'd had my camera when we saw him catch a huge fish (probably at least eight inches, judging by how far it hung out of both sides of his mouth!). Even though he was somewhat far away, we could still see the lump go down his neck as he swallowed!
I'm not sure when this guy will be heading South. It's certainly the latest I've seen him here.
But one day we will walk the ditch, all bundled up, and realize he is gone.
Until then, we savor every second.
It is fall. It is beautiful. And oh, what a gift.
Looks so beautiful, love the colourful foliage and the lake with Harry. I call my heron Henry. The herons and wild geese stay here the whole of the year now, I often wonder if they get cold feet standing in the water waiting for a fish to swim by! Here it's turned very cold and damp, winter is coming nearer. Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteGreat photos - capturing the beauty of fall and Harry.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are stunning! The first one is my favorite as I love his reflection in the water with all the fall colors surrounding him! It's been a long fall here in Minnesota, too, which I am loving. Our leaves are pretty much gone now but it was wonderful to soak up the fall colors for as long as we did. I went for a long walk on Sunday and I walked by a creek which made me think of you and your ditch. I didn't see any birds, but it was still beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous photos of Harry. The reflections are amazing. What colors! We are definitely ahead of you since most of our leaves are now brown and with the wind today- are blowing everywhere. Figures-I have a day I would have been able to rake a bit- ha-ha! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteOur leaves never turn those gorgeous colors. So nice that you were able to walk the ditch before it gets too cold to do so.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a gift. Oh Harry, do you know something we don't know? Take care as you travel south and return to us again next Spring. Thanks for sharing your beauty and Harry with us.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, some look like paintings, especially the first one! :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous autumn colors
ReplyDeleteAutumn is a gift♥
ReplyDeleteAnd so are birds..and creeks and ponds and oceans and puddles with boots.
I love gold against a blue sky..always.
Wouldn't it be nice if nature were so colorful year round? Maybe we appreciate it more because it's so brief, though.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are stunning! Harry is a handsome guy, you captured him well! ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your walks around the ditch. Thanks for taking me (and all the others) along with you...otherwise I'd miss all those gorgeous fall colors.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful pictures, especially of Harry the heron! I love how still they can be. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt was the most amazing fall! And now it's fallen completely, the trees are like bare candelabras, waiting for the warmth and coziness of winter. However, there is no winter in sight! It doesn't even feel like the holidays are near!
ReplyDeleteGlad you've been able to enjoy the Autumn colours. Hope Harry has a safe trip when he eventually leaves to fly South for Winter.
ReplyDeleteStunning photos Jeannie! Love the autumn color and of course Harry. We've just started to cool down here and it's wonderful. It finally feels like fall.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful post, Jeanie. And the more the merrier. Your big bird photos look like impressionist paintings. My birds, big ones, especially have long gone. So it's always comforting looking at yours.
ReplyDeleteOh Jeanie, your pictures always make my heart sing! They are beautiful today. And you still have the Autumn leaves on the trees, as we do, only the leaves here are turning from oranges to reds and falling swiftly. But let's appreciate them while we can. I love those pictures of Harry in the water, and the one of the man walking his dog is delightful.
ReplyDeleteWishing you warm and cozy November days, Jeanie.
~Sheri
Autumn Joy - how lovely to see your little part of the world in all it's autumn glory, which means summer should be on the way for us, not that we'd know it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday Jeanie

Harry is certainly a handsome fellow. I've never been around the Herons. What a treat.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a lovely place to be .
I so enjoyed my walk with you...gorgeous photos of beautiful scenery from your neck of the woods! Thanks for taking me along...Pam @ Everyday Living
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Maybe Harry heard about the fires in the southeast and wants to stay put until they're under control.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed all the great photos and the colors are beautiful
ReplyDeleteOn the hunting and fishing show yesterday, they were talking about duck season, and how everything seems to be about a month behind, this year. The teal are here, but widgeons, mallards, sandhill cranes and others are slow.
ReplyDeleteWhat I've seen seems to support that. Our mallards just returned this week, and they're often here before mid-October. The white pelicans arrived while I was traveling. Only the osprey and the other raptors seem right on schedule. I know that changes in the number of daylight hours triggers a lot of changes, but whether temperature or daylight triggers bird migration, I don't know.
oh Harry:) He has a wonderful photographer and should feel proud of your generous eye:) Thanks for the walk - I enjoyed every minute with you:)

Gorgeous shots☺ Have a beautiful week ♥
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is fall, the most beautiful time of year. I feel like I could just walk into your photos and visit for a while.
